When lifetime-based cytometry is combined with a FRET bioprobe and phasor analyses, enzyme activation can be simplified and quantified with phase and modulation data. We envision extrapolating this approach to high content screening, and reinforce the power of phasor approaches with cytometric data. Analyses such as these can be used to cluster cells by their phase and modulation "lifetime fingerprint" when the intracellular fluorescent probe is utilized as a sensor of enzyme activity. © 2020 The Authors. This study aimed to determine morphological characteristics of deficient posterior-inferior rim for transcatheter atrial septal defect (ASD) closure success.

The feasibility of transcatheter closure of ASD with deficient posterior-inferior rim remains unclear.

Of 869 patients with ASD who were scheduled transcatheter closure, 121 with posterior-inferior rim of <5 mm were included. Posterior-inferior rim morphologies were evaluated by transesophageal echocardiography.

One hundred six patients successfully underwent transcatheter closure, while 15 patients failed. These 15 patients had complete deficient posterior-inferior rim of 0 mm and/or a large defect of ≥38 mm. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that transcatheter closure failure was independently related to complete deficient posterior-inferior rim and a large defect of ≥38 mm. Incomplete deficient posterior-inferior rim of >0 to <5 mm was observed in 84 patients. All these patients successfully underwent transcatheter clos candidates for transcatheter closure.Mechanoluminescence (ML) materials are attracting increasing interest owing to promising applications in various areas. However, to date, it remains a major challenge to develop a precise and universal route to achieving organic ML materials. Herein, we show that ML can be easily realized in organic piezophotonic host-guest crystals, under conditions in which neither the host nor the guest is ML-active. The experimental and theoretical results reveal that excitons of the host generated by piezoelectricity can be harvested effectively by the guest for light emission, owing to the restraint of intersystem crossing process. Moreover, different host-guest crystals are constructed, wherein the emission color, intensity, color purity, and emission duration of ML can be manipulated. This work deepens our understanding of organic ML generation in piezophotonic host-guest crystals and provides an inspiring principle to design more organic ML materials.
The transition from student to physiotherapist involves a steep learning curve typically characterised by stress, anxiety and a lack of confidence in clinical and professional skills. Workplace mentoring is widely used to mediate this transition. The aim of this study was to explore new-graduate physiotherapists' preferences for workplace mentoring and perceived characteristics of effective mentoring to mediate workplace transition.

A qualitative study with a general inductive thematic approach was used. Semi-structured interviews of 15 employed new-graduate physiotherapists were undertaken within their first 3-6 months of clinical practice.

Four themes emerged that were associated with effective mentoring from the new-graduates' perspective (1) accessibility of mentoring and support, (2) the ideal mentor, (3) individualised to the mentee and (4) desire for self-determination.

This study is the first to explore new-graduate physiotherapists' preferences for workplace mentoring in their transition into the workplace and clinical practice. It has identified important characteristics of physiotherapists and other clinicians who support the transition of new-graduate physiotherapists into the practice setting. Enhancing workplaces through support for the development of these characteristics can contribute to the effective integration of the newest members of the profession and may enhance their development and retention in practice.

The objective of this study is to demonstrate a new method for analyzing trabecular bone volume fraction and degree of anisotropy in three dimensions.

We use a combination of automatic mesh registration, point-cloud correspondence registration, and P-value corrected univariate statistical tests to compare bone volume fraction and degree of anisotropy on a point by point basis across the entire calcaneus of two human groups with different subsistence strategies.

We found that the patterns of high and low bone volume fraction and degree of anisotropy distribution between the Black Earth (hunter-gatherers) and Norris Farms (mixed-strategy agriculturalists) are very similar, but differ in magnitude. The hunter-gatherers exhibit higher levels of bone volume fraction and less anisotropic trabecular bone organization. read more Additionally, patterns of bone volume fraction and degree of anisotropy in the calcaneus correspond well with biomechanical expectations of relative forces experienced during walking and running.a way for researchers to see how the trabecular bone variables interact within the morphology, and allows for a more nuanced understanding of how they relate to one another and the broader mechanical environment. To evaluate monotonic torsional resistance and fatigue resistance of novel SCOPE RS instruments and to compare ROTATE, Hyflex CM, OneCurve, and ProTaper Next instruments as a counterpart. The instrument groups were as follows SCOPE RS; ROTATE; HyflexCM; OneCurve; ProTaperNext. The cyclic fatigue resistance of unused instruments was tested at both room and body temperatures (n = 10). The time to fracture, the mean number of cycles until failure, and the length of the fractured fragments were analyzed. The monotonic torsional resistance of new instruments was measured in accordingly American National Standards/American Dental Association No. 28 and International Organization for Standardization 3630-12008 specifications (n = 10). The maximum torque and angular deflection at break were recorded. The fractographic examination was performed by scanning electron microscope. Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy was used to investigate the microstructure of NiTi instruments. One-way ANOVA with Games-Howell Post Hoc multiple comparisons tests were used (p  less then  .
