Interval-censored data often arise naturally in medical, biological, and demographical studies. As a matter of routine, the Cox proportional hazards regression is employed to fit such censored data. The related work in the framework of additive hazards regression, which is always considered as a promising alternative, remains to be investigated. We propose a sieve maximum likelihood method for estimating regression parameters in the additive hazards regression with case II interval-censored data, which consists of right-, left- and interval-censored observations. We establish the consistency and the asymptotic normality of the proposed estimator and show that it attains the semiparametric efficiency bound. The finite-sample performance of the proposed method is assessed via comprehensive simulation studies, which is further illustrated by a real clinical example for patients with hemophilia.BACKGROUND One of the challenges encountered by clinicians new to implant dentistry is the determination and controlling of implant location. Iclepertin purchase This study compared the accuracy of fully guided (FG) and pilot-guided (PG) static computer-assisted implant placement (sCAIP) protocols against the conventional freehand (FH) protocol for placing single anterior and posterior implants by recently introduced clinicians to implant dentistry. MATERIAL AND METHODS Ten clinicians new to implant dentistry inserted one anterior (central incisor) and one posterior (first molar) implants per protocol in training maxillary models. The FG protocol involved drilling and implant placement through the guide, while the PG protocol controlled the pilot drilling only. The FH implant placement was completed without the aid of any guide. A total of 30 models were used, and 60 implants were inserted. The implant vertical, horizontal neck, horizontal apex, and angle deviations from planned positions were calculated. RESULTS The FG protocol provided the most accurate implant placement in relation to horizontal neck (0.47 mm-0.52 mm), horizontal apex (0.71 mm-0.74 mm), and angle deviations (2.42o-2.61o). The vertical deviation was not significantly different among the different protocols. The PG protocol was generally similar to the FH protocol with a horizontal neck deviation of 1.01 mm-1.14 mm, horizontal apex deviation of 1.02 mm-1.35 mm, and angle deviation of 4.65o-7.79o. The FG protocol showed similarity in the accuracy of the anterior and posterior implants. There was a tendency for inferior accuracy for posterior implants compared with anterior implants for the PG and FH protocols. CONCLUSIONS In the hands of recently introduced clinicians to implant dentistry, it appears that the accuracy of the FG protocol was superior to the other protocols and was not influenced by the position of the implants. The PG and FH protocols showed inferior accuracy for posterior implants compared with anterior implants.PURPOSE The change in sleep patterns across the duration of pregnancy is an item of interest. The aim of this study is to provide data on pregnant women's quality of sleep (QoS) and quality of life (QoL) to determine appropriate times to screen for potential problems. METHODS This is a multicenter, prospective, longitudinal observational study. Primigravidae, with no previous illness, completed questionnaires once a month. Strict exclusion criteria were applied in order to evaluate QoS and QoL in "normal" pregnant women. RESULTS A total of 83 normal primigravidae completed this study. The mean age was 33.1 ± 4.0. During pregnancy, body mass index gradually increased, and QoS worsened to a significant degree between the fifth and ninth months (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index 6.8 ± 2.8 vs. 8.9 ± 3.6, p less then 0.001). There was a statistically significant difference in QoL between the fifth and seventh months (Short Form-36 70.8 ± 18.3 vs. 67.3 ± 15.1, p = 0.009). There was no evidence of significant depression or suspicion of sleep-disordered breathing. CONCLUSIONS Pregnant women in South Korea have gradual worsening of QoS which becomes clinically significant by full term. QoL changes significantly between the fifth and seventh months. The results of this observational study suggest that it would be fruitful to evaluate QoS and QoL in pregnant women between the second and third trimesters.Although structural and functional brain abnormalities have been observed in depressed suicide attempters (DS), structural deficits and functional impairments together with their relationship in DS remain unclear. To clarify this issue, we aimed to examine the differences in gray matter (GM) alteration, corresponding functional connectivity (FC) change, and their relationship between DS and depressed non-suicide attempters (NDS). Sixty-eight DS, 119 NDS and 103 healthy controls were enrolled and subjected to magnetic resonance imaging scans. The patients were evaluated using the 17-item Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HRSD) and Nurses' Global Assessment of Suicide Risk (NGASR) scale. Both voxel-based morphometry and resting-state FC analyses were performed based on functional and structural imaging data. Compared with NDS, the DS group showed reduced GM volume in the right inferior frontal orbital gyrus (IFOG) and left caudate (CAU) but increased GM volume in the left calcarine fissure, weaker negative right IFOG-left rectus gyrus (REG) FC, and weaker positive right IFOG-left inferior parietal lobule (IPL) FC. In DS, the GM volume of the right IFOG and left CAU was negatively correlated with NGASR and HRSD scores, respectively; the right IFOG-left IPL FC was negatively correlated with cognitive factor scores; and the GM volume of the right IFOG was positively correlated with IFOG-REG and IFOG-IPL FC. Our findings indicate that structural deficit with its related functional alterations in brain circuits converged in right IFOG centralized pathways and may play a central role in suicidal behaviors in depression.BACKGROUND N-acyl-homoserine lactones (AHLs) are the quorum sensing (QS) signal molecules to coordinate the collective behavior in a population in Gram-negative bacteria. Recent evidences demonstrate their roles in plant growth and defense responses. RESULTS In present study, we show that the treatment of plant roots with N-3-oxo-hexanoyl-homoserine lactone (3OC6-HSL), one molecule of AHLs family, resulted in enhanced salt tolerance in Arabidopsis and wheat. We found that the growth inhibition phenotype including root length, shoot length and fresh weight were significantly improved by 3OC6-HSL under salt stress condition. The physiological and biochemical analysis revealed that the contents of chlorophyll and proline were increased and the contents of MDA and Na+ and Na+/K+ ratios were decreased after 3OC6-HSL treatment in Arabidopsis and wheat under salt stress condition. Molecular analysis showed that 3OC6-HSL significantly upregulated the expression of salt-responsive genes including ABA-dependent osmotic stress responsive genes COR15a, RD22, ADH and P5CS1, ABA-independent gene ERD1, and ion-homeostasis regulation genes SOS1, SOS2 and SOS3 in Arabidopsis under salt stress condition.
