Whey-Derived Permeable Co2 Scaffolds regarding Bone Tissue Design.
Alzheimer's & Dementia published by Wiley Periodicals, Inc. on behalf of Alzheimer's Association.OBJECTIVE To investigate the prevalence of sarcopenia, its associated factors and its impact on readmission in older hospitalised patients with cardiovascular diseases (CVD) in Vietnam. METHODS Patients aged ≥60 with CVD were recruited from 12/2018 to 6/2019 at a tertiary hospital in Vietnam. Sarcopenia was defined by the criteria proposed by the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia (AWGS). RESULTS There were 251 participants, with a mean age of 73.7 ± 8.8, 39.4% were female, and 34.3% had sarcopenia. On multivariable logistic regression, heart failure, chronic kidney disease and being currently unmarried were significantly associated with sarcopenia. The incidence of 5-month readmission was 35.7% (50.0% in sarcopenic participants and 27.9% in non-sarcopenic participants, P = .001). Sarcopenia independently increased the risk of readmission (adjusted OR 2.19, 95% CI 1.08-4.42). CONCLUSION Sarcopenia was present in one-third of older hospitalised patients with CVD and increased their risk of readmission. This finding suggests the need to raise awareness of sarcopenia among clinicians and older patients in Vietnam. © 2020 AJA Inc.BACKGROUND Sunitinib is a standard treatment for metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Currently, the data available on the effects of sunitinib on endothelial dysfunction, metabolic changes, and cardiovascular (CV) risk factors are limited, and we aimed to evaluate these aspects in patients with RCC after a short period of treatment. METHODS Patients affected by metastatic RCC were enrolled and evaluated before starting sunitinib (T0) and after 40 days of treatment (T1) by the flow-mediated dilation (FMD), carotid intima media thickness (IMT), ankle-brachial pressure index (ABI), and 24-hour proteinuria. We also assessed serum metabolic and nutritional parameters at T0 and T1. RESULTS Twenty patients (7 female), with a mean age of 61.4 ± 12.0 years, were studied. Overtime, we observed a reduction in estimated glomerular filtration rate (P = .002), FMD (P = .001) and in fasting plasma glucose levels (P = .04), as well as an increase in plasma insulin (P less then .001), HOMA-IR (P less then .01), and serum total cholesterol levels (P = .01). Moreover at T1 we found a significant increase in systolic and diastolic blood pressure (P ≤ .001) and 24-hour proteinuria (P less then .001) compared to baseline, whereas no changes in IMT and ABI were detected. CONCLUSION The changes observed overtime after sunitinib treatment in terms of markers of early endothelial dysfunction, blood pressure, as well as in glucose/insulin metabolism and proteinuria may contribute to increase CV risk in RCC patients and suggest a strict follow-up in this setting. Larger evidences are mandatory to confirm our observations. © 2020 The Authors. this website Cancer Medicine published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd.Transition metal borides (TMBs) have recently attracted attention as excellent hydrogen evolution (HER) electrocatalysts in bulk crystalline materials. Here, we show for the first time that VB and V 3 B 4 have high electrocatalytic HER activity. Furthermore, we show that the HER activity (in 0.5 M H 2 SO 4 ) increases with increasing boron chain condensation in vanadium borides Using a -23 mV overpotential decrement derived from -0.296 mV (for VB at -10 mA/cm 2 current density) and -0.273 mV (for V 3 B 4 ) we accurately predict the overpotential of VB 2 (-0.204 mV) as well as that of unstudied V 2 B 3 (-0.250 mV) and hypothetical "V 5 B 8 " (-0.227 mV). We then derived an exponential equation that predicts the overpotentials of known and hypothetical V x B y phases containing at least a boron chain. These results provide a direct correlation between crystal structure and HER activity, thus paving the way for the design of even better electrocatalytic materials through structure-activity relationships. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim. We reported the clinical characteristics of a case series of 10 patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) aged from 1 year to 18 years. Seven patients had contact with confirmed COVID-19 family members before onset. Fever (4 [40.0%]) and cough (3 [30.0%]) were the most common symptoms. No patient showed leucopenia and lymphopenia on admission. Pneumonia was observed in chest CT images in 5 (50.0%) patients. Five (50.0%) patients received antiviral treatment. No patient had severe complications or developed a severe illness in our study. Our study indicated that COVID-19 children present less severe symptoms and have better outcomes. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.BACKGROUND Poor patient-clinician communication around patient-reported outcomes (PROs) is a barrier to the effective management of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). We aimed to develop an RA 'dashboard' that could facilitate conversations about PROs and that would be acceptable to a wide range of patients, including English and Spanish speakers and patients with adequate or limited health literacy. METHODS A diverse group of RA patients along with clinicians from two academic rheumatology clinics joined separate focus groups. We solicited feedback and made iterative changes to mock-ups of an RA dashboard that visualized PROs using a human-centred design process. We used the thematic analysis method to identify and characterize themes from the focus groups and used these insights to refine the dashboard. RESULTS We conducted six focus groups involving 25 RA patients and three groups with 11 clinicians. Patients and clinicians agreed that the dashboard could enhance communication about PROs and RA disease activity and could promote patient self-management. Patients varied in their (a) comprehension, (b) preferences for the display and features of the dashboard, and (c) desired uses for the dashboard. Clinicians expressed significant concerns about the logistics of using the dashboard in clinical practice. CONCLUSION Using principles of human-centred design, we created an RA dashboard that was well-accepted among patients and clinicians. The ability to customize the data display is important for tailoring the dashboard to patients with diverse needs and preferences. Special attention should be given to feasibility concerns voiced by clinicians. © 2020 The Authors Health Expectations published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd.
