What was Alex's personality like?

What was Alex's intelligence like?

Even after his death, Alex continues to inspire people across the world. The film Free Solo is a documentary about Alex's life and incredible climbing achievements. This film has received great critical acclaim and is regarded as one of the most acclaimed documentaries ever made. It has won many awards, including the Academy Award in 2019 for Best Documentary Feature.

In addition to his collaboration with Dr. Pepperberg, Alex also set the standard for new avenues in bird intelligence. He could perform more than 100 vocal labels for actions and objects, was able to count sets of objects up to six, and demonstrated math skills that were incredibly advanced for a bird at the time.

He also could communicate with other animals through sign language and was able to comprehend a lot of grammar. He used a training method called "rival model" which involved two trainers showing the bird what they were trying to teach it. The trainers would often switch positions so that the bird could interact with both and receive attention from each.

After the success of Free Solo, Alex was awarded the status of National Hero by President Barack Obama in 2014. Alex was able to accomplish so many things throughout his life due to his strength of character, and his determination to live life on his terms.
