Watch Out: How Robot Hoover Is Taking Over And What Can We Do About It
The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot vacuum will sweep and vacuum your floors without having to be involved. It also leaves them spotless. Its price is affordable and its high-end functions (such as a dirt detector) are both positives.

Make sure to check your robot's brushes frequently for tangled debris and hair. Wash them when necessary. Some models can also self-empty the onboard dust bin and place it in a larger bin at the base. This can reduce the amount of fine dust that gets released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. remote hoover feature motors that are top of the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other premium iRobots (including the most powerful model) they utilize intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans that avoid obstacles like furniture leg. They also come with carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it spots the presence of dirt on the carpet, allowing it clean quickly.

Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our bare floor tests, and they're particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a good deal particularly if your office or home has a lot of bare floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also quiet and operates while you are at work or at school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its smart cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also has a self-emptying dustbin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, however it isn't as effective as some of its competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors to keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to ensure cleaner and more efficient cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and customize zones using the app that is well-designed. It has a battery life that is similar to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a room with carpet to prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach under low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could sweep the entire house, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It also did a great job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms that had different flooring types, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was excellent, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically empties into its base, and supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that looks much like a Roomba model than the bulky models of the competition. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop to score the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's still quite loud, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however, it's more expensive and create more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and washes and dries mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also comes with an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house depending on how dirty these areas tend to be.

For larger homes it's worth looking for models with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your home via the app or voice commands. A stairway mode is useful if you own a large furniture. Also the recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion that is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or create a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance. The app also grants access to many features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It is equipped with a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction, as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that will thoroughly clean the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, however it is more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has an app that's not as intuitive, and a smaller base station that does not double as a bin to empty.
