(type strain JWXQ-INN-674T = CGMCC 1.17283T = JCM 34245T).Proton radiotherapy has been shown to offer a significant dosimetric advantage in cancer patients, in comparison to conventional radiotherapy, with a decrease in dose to healthy tissue and organs at risk, because the bulk of the beam energy is deposited in the Bragg peak to be located within a tumour. However, it should be kept in mind that radiotherapy of cancer is still accompanied by adverse side effects, and a better understanding and improvement of radiotherapy can extend the life expectancy of patients following the treatment of malignant tumours. In this study, the dose distributions measured with thermoluminescent detectors (TLDs) inside a tissue-equivalent adult human phantom exposed for lung and prostate cancer using the modern proton beam scanning radiotherapy technique were compared. Since the TLD detection efficiency depends on the ionization density of the radiation to be detected, and since this efficiency is detector specific, four different types of TLDs were used to compare their response int of the neutron dose equivalent. Before it can be concluded that they offer an alternative to the time-consuming nuclear track detectors, however, more research is needed to unambiguously confirm whether this observation was just accidental or whether it only applies to certain cases. Since there is no universal detector, which would allow the determination of the dosimetric quantities relevant for risk estimation, this work expands the knowledge necessary to improve the quality of dosimetry data and might help scientists and clinicians in choosing the right tools to measure radiation doses in mixed radiation fields.
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) has a high worldwide prevalence in adults and children. There is uncertainty regarding medical versus surgical therapy and different surgical techniques. This review assessed outcomes of antireflux surgery versus medical management of GERD in adults and children, robotic versus laparoscopic fundoplication, complete versus partial fundoplication, and minimal versus maximal dissection in pediatric patients.
PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane databases were searched (2004-2019) to identify randomized control and non-randomized comparative studies. Two independent reviewers screened for eligibility. Random effects meta-analysis was performed on comparative data. Study quality was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias and Newcastle Ottawa Scale.
From 1473 records, 105 studies were included. Most had high or uncertain risk of bias. Analysis demonstrated that anti-reflux surgery was associated with superior short-term quality of life compared to PPI (Std mean difference = -nce regarding the optimal treatment of GERD often suffers from high risk of bias. Additional high-quality randomized control trials may further inform surgical decision making in the treatment of GERD.
To date, bariatric surgery has been proposed as the most effective treatment to resolve morbid obesity, a multifactorial chronic disease with an epidemic and increasing tendency. The purpose of this study was to determinate the impact of the laparoscopy on weight loss parameters in morbid obese patients who underwent surgery according to Scopinaro's biliopancreatic diversion (BPD) and evaluate early and late complications related to the open and laparoscopic approach of this technique.
This is a longitudinal retrospective study in consecutive patients undergoing BPD due to morbid obesity between 1999 and 2015. From 2006 the laparoscopic technique was introduced in our group for obesity surgery. In both approaches, open and laparoscopic surgery, the procedure performed consists of a proximal gastric section with a long Roux-en-Y reconstruction. The following variables were assessed in the two groups intervention duration (min), estimated blood loss (mL), conversions to open approach (%), preoperative stay,ay compared to open surgery and that allows a drastic reduction in the incidence of incisional hernias.Earlier evidence from studies of rat hypertension models undermines the widespread view that the rate of renal medullary blood flow (MBF) is critical in control of arterial pressure (MAP). Here, we examined the role of MBF in rats that were normotensive, with modest short-lasting pressure elevation, or with overt established hypertension. LY3295668 The groups studied were anaesthetised Sprague-Dawley rats (1) normotensive, (2) with acute i.v. norepinephrine-induced MAP elevation, and (3) with hypertension induced by unilateral nephrectomy followed by administration of deoxycorticosterone-acetate (DOCA) and 1% NaCl drinking fluid for 3 weeks. MBF was measured (laser-Doppler probe) and selectively increased using 4-h renal medullary infusion of bradykinin. MAP, renal excretion parameters and post-experiment medullary tissue osmolality and sodium concentration were determined. In the three experimental groups, baseline MAP was 117, 151 and 171 mmHg, respectively. Intramedullary bradykinin increased MBF by 45%, 65% and 70%, respectively, but this was not associated with a change in MAP. In normotensive rats a significant decrease in medullary tissue sodium was seen. The intramedullary bradykinin specifically increased renal excretion of water, sodium and total solutes in norepinephrine-treated rats but not in the two other groups. As previously shown in models of rat hypertension, in the normotensive rats and those with acute mild pressure elevation (resembling labile borderline human hypertension), 4-h renal medullary hyperperfusion failed to decrease MAP. Nor did it decrease in DOCA-salt model mimicking low-renin human hypertension. Evidently, within the 4-h observation, medullary perfusion was not a critical determinant of MAP in normotensive and hypertensive rats.
Coronary heart disease (CHD) is one of the leading causes of disability and death worldwide. Inflammatory cytokines play an essential role in the pathogenesis of CHD. This study aimed to detect the potential association between interleukin (IL)-9, IL-2RA, and IL-2RB variants and CHD in aHan Chinese population.
This case-control study included 499 CHD patients and 496 healthy controls. Seven single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were genotyped to investigate the possible association between the polymorphisms and CHD risk. Interactions between SNPs and CHD risk were analyzed via multifactor dimensionality reduction (MDR).
We observed an association between IL‑9 rs55692658 (OR = 1.72, p = 0.003) and increased CHD risk. Age-stratified analysis indicated that regardless of the participants' age, IL‑9 rs55692658 and IL-2RB rs1573673 contributed significantly to CHD susceptibility (p < 0.05, respectively).
