Twenty-one men met inclusion criteria. Mean operative time and hospital stay for sub-coronal resurfacing were 40 min (25-50) and 0.76 days (1-2), respectively. At the mean follow-up of 18 months (12-61), no patients developed recurrence. All patients who presented with pain and postcoital bleeding saw improvement on follow-up (18/18). There was a significant improvement in SHIM scores after the operation (14.4 pre-op, 17.0 post-op; p = 0.003). Overall improvement of symptoms was reported by all patients 57% GRA + 3; 29% GRA + 2; 14% GRA + 1. Baseline penile sensation was preserved in 17/21 (81%) patients. CONCLUSIONS Recurrent penile adhesions in the setting of LS are notoriously difficult to treat. A sub-coronal BMG resurfacing is feasible. This initial patient cohort demonstrated no recurrence and overall high satisfaction.Although mechanical ventilation may be a patient's vital ally during acute illness, it can quickly transform into an enemy during chronic conditions. The weaning process is the fundamental phase that enables the resumption of physiological respiratory function; however, it is also associated with a number of life-threatening complications, and a large percentage of critically ill patients never achieve airway device removal or require the resumption of mechanical ventilation just a few days post-weaning. Indeed, the weaning process is, at present, more of an art than a science. As such, there is urgent need for novel contributions from the scientific literature to abate the growing rates of morbidity and mortality associated with weaning failure. The physician attempting to wean a patient must integrate clinical parameters and common-sense criteria. Numerous studies have striven to identify single predictive factors of weaning failure and sought to standardize the weaning process, but the results are characterized by remarkable heterogeneity. Despite the lack of benchmarks, it is clear that the analysis of respiratory function must include a detailed overview of the five situations described below rather than a single aspect. The purpose of this two-part review is to provide a comprehensive description of these situations to clarify the "arena" physicians are entering when weaning critically ill patients from mechanical ventilation.Non-catalytic region of tyrosine kinase adaptor protein 1 (Nck1) is crucial for the progression of cancers. However, little is known on the role of Nck1 in the progression of ovarian carcinoma (OC). Here, we show that Nck1 expression is up-regulated in 176 OC tissues, compared with non-carcinoma ovarian tissues, and the up-regulated Nck1 expression is associated with the aggressiveness of OC and shorter overall and disease-free survival in this population. Higher Nck1 expression was an independent risk factor for poor prognosis of OC. Furthermore, Nck1 silencing by short hairpin RNA (shRNA) technology significantly inhibited the proliferation, migration and invasion of OC cells in vitro and the growth and metastasis of implanted OC tumors in vivo. Human kinase phosphorylation array indicated that Nck1 silencing significantly reduced the relative levels of 11 kinase expression and phosphorylation in OC cells, particularly for decreased levels of p70S6 kinase (p70S6K) and protein kinase B (AKT) expression in SKOV3 cells. Actually, Nck1 silencing significantly decreased PI3K and AKT expression, and reduced AKT and p70S6K phosphorylation while Nck1 over-expression had opposite effects in OC cells. Therefore, our data indicate that Nck1 promotes the progression of OC by enhancing the PI3k/AKT/p70S6K signaling in OC. Our findings suggest that Nck1 expression may be valuable for evaluating the prognosis of OC and as a target for design of new therapies for OC.The study was conducted to evaluate the effects of replacing inorganic trace minerals (ITMs) with respective low-dose complexed glycinate minerals (CGMs) on their bioavailability and retention during peak laying period of broiler breeders. In this experiment, 648 ZhenNing broiler breeders (23 weeks old) were randomly allocated to four treatments with six replicates (27 birds/replicate) and fed for 14 weeks including 2 weeks adaptation period. The treatments were T1-ITM, commercially recommended levels of ITMs (Cu, Zn, Fe, and Mn sulphates); T2-MIX, half of the minerals were supplemented with ITMs and half with CGMs; T3-L-CGMs, minerals were supplemented with CGMs (50% level of T1); and T4-M-CGMs, minerals were supplemented with CGMs (70% level of T1). The results showed that birds fed on ITM had lower bioavailability of Fe, Mn, and Zn (P  less then  0.05) than those fed on L-CGMs, but the highest (P  less then  0.01) bioavailability of Cu was found in those fed on MIX. Mineral retention (in serum, muscle, bone, and tissues) was not affected by reducing supplementation levels of trace minerals up to 50% of ITMs, but Zn (in serum, liver, kidney, heart, and albumen) and Fe (in serum and the yolk) retention was negatively affected (P  less then  0.05). In conclusion, replacing dietary ITMs with low-dose complexed glycinate minerals increases the apparent bioavailability of Fe, Mn, and Zn without compromising the mineral retention rates in most of the tissues tested.Pregnant adolescents are at risk for micronutrient deficiency, psychological problems, and sexual dysfunction. We aimed to determine serum levels of vitamin D, calcium, magnesium, and copper, and also their relations with stress, anxiety, depression, and sexual function in pregnant adolescents. This cross-sectional study was conducted on two hundred 11-19-year-old healthy singleton pregnant women at gestational age of 26-32 weeks, who were covered by public health centers in Tabriz, Iran. Depression was assessed using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS), anxiety and stress using the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21), and sexual function using the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI). The independent t test was employed to determine the relations. Serum levels of vitamin D were found to be deficient ( 0.05). The present study indicates high prevalence of micronutrient (especially vitamin D) deficiency, psychological problems, and sexual dysfunction among the pregnant adolescents.
