trol condition. The outcome of social skills is assessed using observational assessments and multi-informant questionnaires. Additionally, factors related to social learning are assessed at several time points, which will enable us to explore potential mediators and moderators of treatment effect. Trail registration Dutch trail register NTR6255 (NL6117). Registered February 8th, 2017 - retrospectively registered. Background Ameloblastoma is one of the most common benign odontogenic neoplasms. Its surgical excision has the potential to lead to postoperative malocclusion. In this case report, we describe the successful interdisciplinary orthodontic treatment of a patient with ameloblastoma who underwent marginal mandibulectomy. Case presentation A woman of 20-year-old was diagnosed with ameloblastoma, and underwent marginal mandibulectomy when she was 8 years of age. She had an excessive overjet (11.5 mm) and a mild open bite (- 1.5 mm) with a severely resorbed atrophic edentulous ridge in the area around the mandibular left lateral incisor, canine and first premolar. An alveolar bone defect associated with tumor resection was regenerated by vertical distraction osteogenesis (DO). Subsequently, 3 dental implants were placed into the reconstructed mandible. Orthodontic treatment using implant-anchored mechanics provided a proper facial profile with significantly improved occlusal function. The occlusion appeared stable for a 7-year retention period. Conclusions These results suggest that surgically assisted and implant anchored-orthodontic approaches might be effective for the correction of such malocclusions. Background Previous studies on the effects of lipotoxicity and oxidative stress on islet beta cell function mainly focused on patients with diabetes, whereas studies on normal glucose tolerance (NGT) are few. The aim of this study was to explore the relationships among triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c), oxidative stress indicators, insulin resistance, and beta cell function in populations with different glucose and lipid metabolism states. Methods A total of 517 individuals were recruited from a rural community in Beijing, China. Glucose metabolism status was defined according to the results of a 75-g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). Dyslipidemia was defined as abnormal TG, HDL-c, or LDL-c levels. The population was divided into four groups individuals with normal glucose and lipid levels (group A, n = 62); those with dyslipidemia alone (group B, n = 82); those with dysglycemia alone (group C, n = 121); and those with dysglycemia an(beta = 0.321, 0.327, P = 0.011, 0.003 in groups A and B, respectively) and negatively correlated with LnDI30 in participants with dyslipidemia (beta = - 0.225, - 0.122, P = 0.035, 0.048 in groups B and D, respectively). Reduced serum SOD levels in individuals with dysglycemia plus dyslipidemia were observed, and a negative association between TG and SOD levels was found (r = - 0.461, P less then 0.001). Conclusion TG correlated with both insulin resistance and beta cell function in individuals with dyslipidemia alone. SOD negatively correlated with TG, indicating a close relationship between oxidative stress and glucose-lipid metabolism. Due to the adverse effect of hypertriglyceridemia on insulin sensitivity and islet beta cell function, more attention should be paid to the detection and management of hypertriglyceridemia. Background Implementation research is increasingly being recognised as an important discipline seeking to maximise the benefits of evidence-based interventions. Odanacatib research buy Although capacity-building efforts are ongoing, there has been limited attention on the contextual and health system peculiarities in low- and middle-income countries. Moreover, given the challenges encountered during the implementation of health interventions, the field of implementation research requires a creative attempt to build expertise for health researchers and practitioners simultaneously. With support from the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases, we have developed an implementation research short course that targets both researchers and practitioners. This paper seeks to explain the course development processes and report on training evaluations, highlighting its relevance for inter-institutional and inter-regional capacity strengthening. Methods The development of the implementation research course curriculum wand questions. Conclusion The approach for training both researchers and practitioners offers a dynamic opportunity for the acquisition and sharing of knowledge for both categories of learners. This approach was crucial in demonstrating a key characteristic of implementation research (e.g. multidisciplinary) practically evident during the training sessions. Using such a model to effectively train participants from various low- and middle-income countries shows the opportunities this training curriculum offers as a capacity-building tool. Background Schistosomiasis is a socioeconomically devastating parasitic infection afflicting hundreds of millions of people and animals worldwide. It is the most important helminth infection, and its treatment relies solely on the drug praziquantel. Oral H1-antihistamines are available worldwide, and these agents are among the most widely used of all medications in children and adults. Given the importance of the drug repositioning strategy, we evaluated the antischistosomal properties of the H1-antihistamine drugs commonly used in clinical practices. Methods Twenty-one antihistamine drugs were initially screened against adult schistosomes ex vivo. Subsequently, we investigated the anthelmintic properties of these antihistamines in a murine model of schistosomiasis for both early and chronic S. mansoni infections at oral dosages of 400 mg/kg single dose or 100 mg/kg daily for five consecutive days. We also demonstrated and described the ability of three antihistamines to induce tegumental damage in schistosommines for the treatment of schistosomiasis is highly unlikely.
