Japan recently announced plans to discharge over 1.2 million tons of radioactive water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP) into the Pacific Ocean. The contaminated water can poses a threat to marine ecosystems and human health. To estimate the impact of the plan, here, we developed a three-dimensional global model to track the transport and dispersion of tritium released from the radioactive water of the FDNPP. The pollution scenarios for four release durations (1 month, 1 year, 5 years, and 10 years) were simulated. The simulation results showed that for the release in short-duration scenarios (1 month and 1 year), the peak plume with high tritium concentration shifted with the currents and finally reached the northeastern Pacific. For the long-duration scenarios (5 years and 10 years), the peak plume of the contaminated water was confined to coastal regions east of Japan. The purpose of the present study was to determine levels of POPs (dieldrin, endrin, HCH isomers, DDT metabolites, and PCB congeners) in organs of chum (Oncorhynchus keta), pink (O. gorbuscha), sockeye (O. nerka), masu (O. masou), and Chinook salmon (O. tshawytscha), and to identify the patterns of toxicants' distribution in organisms and the environment of the northwestern Pacific. Principal component factor analysis showed that all the salmon species typically exhibit relationships between the PCB congeners and are characterized by a similar pattern of entry of PCBs 101, 118, and 153. The OCPs levels in the organs of Pacific salmon are decreasing from 2012 to 2018, which suggests the elimination of these toxicants from the northwestern Pacific Ocean.
This paper discusses the possible etiologies for the proportionate short stature of a female individual and provides data to allow the diagnosis of future cases of Turner Syndrome (TS) in paleopathology.

Skeleton of a 26-years-old maid, from the Coimbra Identified Skeletal Collection, who died of measles in 1920.

Macroscopic examination, imaging techniques, and metric analysis.

Her estimated height is 138.91-144.3 cm, approximately three standard deviations below the average female stature for early 20th century Portugal. The crural, brachial, humero-femoral, and intermembral indexes show a proportionate body, uncommon in dwarfism. Small skull with prominent frontal, maxillary prognathism, enamel hypoplasia, cribra orbitalia, porotic hyperostosis, proliferative reaction in the petrous portion of the temporal, obliterated sagittal suture, oval foramen magnum, and small mandible with masculine features. The sternal ends of the ribs are wider and vertebrae present developmental defects (e.g. atlas with both left transverse foramina and posterior tubercle open, absence of the right transverse foramen in the axis, sacrum with six vertebrae).

The differential diagnosis point to a possible case of Turner Syndrome.

This study describes the features of Turner Syndrome and provide detail metric analysis of this individual, which will be useful for future paleopathological diagnoses.

The confirmation of the diagnosis will only be possible through genetic analysis.

Reanalysis of skeletal individuals with short stature to detect possible cases of Turner Syndrome.
Reanalysis of skeletal individuals with short stature to detect possible cases of Turner Syndrome.X-linked lymphoproliferative disease (XLP) is a rare immunodeficiency disease characterized by severe immune disorder and extreme vulnerability to Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infections. Here we report a 14-month-old Chinese boy presenting with fulminant infectious mononucleosis (FIM) following EBV infection, and died of hepatic failure within one week of disease progression. Glutathione disulfide Postmortem examination revealed icterus, ascites, extensive enlarged mesenteric lymphnodes and hepatosplenomegaly. Histopathological examination showed diffuse proliferation of cytotoxic T lymphoid cells and hemophagocytosis in multiple organs. The family history revealed his brother had died under similar circumstances at 5 five years of age. The cause of death of the boy was ascribed to XLP. To the best of our knowledge, there is few autopsy-confirmed XLP case in the forensic practice. The complicatedmanifestations and systemic pathological changes should be well recognized by clinicians and forensic pathologists.
Evidence from previous virus epidemics has shown that infected patients are at risk for developing psychiatric and mental health disorders, such as depression, anxiety, and insomnia. Hence, to collect high-quality data on the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the prevalence of depression, anxiety, and insomnia symptoms among patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 should be the immediate priority.

A comprehensive search of Medline, Embase, Web of Science, and PsycINFO databases was conducted from January 1, 2020 to December 26, 2020 for eligible studies reporting on the prevalence of depression, anxiety, and insomnia symptoms in patients with COVID-19. Studies meeting the following criteria were included in the analysis (1) included patients with COVD-19; (2) recorded the prevalence of depression, anxiety, or insomnia symptom; (3) sample size ≥30; (4) with validated screening tools; and (5) passed through the international peer-review process. Data extraction and quality assessment was independently performed by tssion, anxiety, and insomnia symptoms are prevalent in a considerable proportion of patients with COVID-19. Thus, early detection and properly intervention for mental illness in this population are of great significance. Additionally, the quality of included studies to date has been variable, and ongoing surveillance is essential.
Microcirculation is important for regulating ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury associated with skin flap transplantation surgery. We investigated whether co-culture with adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) could protect human dermal microvascular endothelial cells (HDMECs) from I/R injury by inhibiting cell apoptosis and enhancing cell proliferation. We also investigated the effects of hypoxic preconditioning on ADSCs.

HDMECs were divided into four groups, control, HDMECs in normoxic culture conditions; hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R), HDMECs in a hypoxic incubator for 8 h then in saturated aerobic culture medium for 24 h; H/R+ADSC(N), HDMECs treated similar to the H/R group then co-cultured with normoxic ADSCs; and H/R+ADSC(H), HDMECs treated similar to the H/R group then co-cultured with hypoxia preconditioned ADSCs.

The rate of HDMECs apoptosis significantly increased in the H/R group, but decreased upon co-culture with ADSCs for 24 h, especially in the H/R + ADSC(H) group. Co-culture with ADSCs, especially hypoxia preconditioned ADSCs, significantly enhanced cell proliferation ability compared with that of the H/R group after 48 h and 72 h, but not after 24 h.
