Bedside Crib Or Cot The Process Isn't As Hard As You Think
Bedside Crib Or Co-Sleeper

In essence, a bedside crib is a cot that resembles a bassinet that can be attached to your bed and lets you be close to your baby during evening feedings or to help soothe them back to sleep. They are particularly useful for mothers recovering from c section births.

Our parents who tested it praised the SnuzPod 4, with many technical features for busy new parents including an incline setting for reflux and a calm centre with amber floorlight and nightlight with two vibration levels. It's also lightweight and is able to be easily moved from one room to another.

Safety

A bedside crib, sometimes referred to as a cosleeper (or baby bassinet), allows your infant to sleep next to you during the night in their own crib. This helps to protect them from overheating and SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). You should follow the manufacturer's instructions for weight limits, and make sure that the crib fits snugly. It is crucial to keep gaps out of the way as they could increase the risk of being entangled. This is a serious danger. It is also crucial to keep blankets, pillows and toys from the crib.

Find a crib that has a mesh panel on the side that is clear, and a firm mattress that is firm, flat, and airy. The slats must be no more than 2 3/8 inches apart and the headboard should not be higher than the footboard. This will stop your baby from climbing out of the crib. Many models also feature a built-in changing table, shelves to store diapers and wipes, rockers lighting for night and music. These are wonderful features to have but remember that your baby must remain in their crib until they're able stand or sit up, around 6 months, when they can safely sleep elsewhere.

It's also important to pick a crib that does not have corner posts as they could pose a risk to your baby's safety because they create spaces in which their limbs or head might be trapped. Consider removing these posts from your crib in order to avoid your child from becoming entangled with their toys or clothes. Keep the crib free of window blind cords and drape cords as your baby might get caught in them and fall or strangle.

Make sure that the cot is still safe to use even if you're using an old cot. It should not have any rough surfaces holes, peeling paint or holes and must be sturdy and in good condition with no loose components. It is also crucial to ensure that the cot was stripped down and painted. Cots manufactured prior to 1973 may have contained leaded paint, which can be toxic for babies.

Easy of Use

Bedside cribs are cot or bassinet designed to be placed safely next to a parent's bed and allow newborns to sleep close by without any of the dangers that come with co-sleeping (rooming-in). They are a great choice for parents who have a difficult getting out of the bed to feed their child or soothe them at night, particularly after a difficult birth. Some can also be used as a Moses Basket or infant carrycot to provide a more flexible and secure sleeping space away from the crib.

Bedside cribs fasten securely to the the parent's bed using a secure strap and some have an adjustable base with a swivel and swivel height settings to fit different types of beds. Many cribs have mesh sides to increase visibility and airflow. Some models have sides that can be moved up or down to give parents direct access to their baby. This is helpful for nighttime feedings and comforting.

Some cribs tilt at one end, which can encourage an easier sleep position for babies suffering from reflux or colic. However, this should be used with extreme caution and only with the guidance of a health professional.

MFM home tester Jasmine liked the size of this crib It's "it's much larger than most Moses baskets, and feels solid and sturdy It's almost like an investment piece but not so expensive that it's not affordable." cotsfortots appreciated how easy it was to use, particularly the swivel base, saying: "You can just spin it around to reach it in case you need to check on your babyand then when you're ready to go back to bed you simply pull it up."

Another thing she liked was the ease with which it was to open and close the door from the outside, especially when exhausted in the dark. She also enjoyed how much space there was in the crib to store nappies, blankets, and other essentials. She also loved the mattress's comfort and a good size compared to some of the other cribs we've tested. She added: "Plus the sheets are easily machine washable. This is a major bonus when you're exhausted from each feed!"

Portability

One of the great things about a crib that is bedside is it can be set right next to the parent's own bed, making it easy to reach baby at night to nurse or comfort. It also helps prevent baby falling over, which can sometimes cause death. A good quality crib should have sides that are open, making it simple for bleary-eyed parents in the middle of the night, as well as a mesh window to monitor your little one.

The SnuzPod 4 is popular because of its sleek Scandi design and affordable price. It is available in a variety of colors, including gender neutral grey and wood effect, and is specifically designed to work with divan beds although you may need to buy longer straps to make it compatible with your mattress. Its side panel that opens, anti-reflux incline and adjustable mattress heights are all easy to operate, even for bleary-eyed new parents.

It's a bit heavier than other cribs and does not fold completely flat. However, it's still a good enough size to fit in its convenient carry bag when travelling. Mom on the BabyCentre forums says it's a breeze to set up, thanks to clear instructions and easy-to-use mechanisms. However, she warns that the fabric is susceptible to creasing when removed from its bag to travel.

You can also opt for the Joie Roomie Glide. It is a crib that is placed at the bedside with wheels, making it more maneuverable. It also folds completely flat. It's a bit more expensive than the SnuzPod but it has a few extra features, such as a storage shelf, 6 different height adjustments, and an option to reflux inclined. It also has a zip-up mesh window to make cleaning easy and a breathable, sturdy mattress, but some moms were a bit disappointed that it was a bit smaller than other options. It comes with a carry bag, which is useful for keeping it clean and dust-free in storage between uses.

Style

A bedside crib, also referred to as co-sleeper, was designed to fit by your bed. It lets you view and reach your baby at night, which can help with night feeds and nappy changes. It is perfect for parents who wish to keep their children close, but don't want to risk suffocation and overheating. It's also a great option for couples who do not share the bedroom with their child.

There are many different styles you can choose from. Some models come with a side panel which can be removed. This allows you to be able to see and touch your child throughout the night, but it also prevents the accidental sharing of beds. Some pop-up designs lower to allow you to lift your baby off the bed, but automatically raise it.

You'll have to take into account the size of your crib and your bed. Some cribs are smaller and compact and are ideal in case you are restricted by space in your home. Some are larger and more durable, which is great for older babies that may be beginning to roll over or get up in the night.

Look for a crib that is easy to clean, and has breathable fabric and mesh windows which can aid in ventilation. Some cribs have a mattress that is machine-washable and fitted with a sheet that is easier to keep clean than the standard crib mattress. Some have an anti-reflux incline option, which is useful for people suffering from reflux.

Most secure and convenient are cribs that can be secured to the bed of the parents using straps or a locking system that keeps it in place even when it is not in use. Some cribs also have adjustable legs that be able to work with different bed heights. This can be helpful if you have a divan or other unusually-shaped bed. Other features you might look at include a detachable 4th wall, which could be used as an infant sitter or play pen during the day, as well as an adjustable changing tray.
