The use of dipolar forces instead of chemical or physical modifications not only eliminates additional alternations enabling multiple damage-repair cycles but also provides further opportunity for designing self-healable commodity thermoplastics. These materials may offer numerous applications, ranging from the use in electronics, ion batteries, H2 fuel dispense hoses to self-healable pet toys, packaging, paints and coatings, and many others.HLA-A*0301102 differs from HLA-A*03010101 by one nucleotide substitution at position 72 in exon 1.
Despite the impact needling has had on vascular access survival and patient outcome, there is no universal or standardized method proposed for proper cannulation. Rigorous studies are needed, examining cannulation practices, and challenges to achieving complication-free cannulation.

This randomized, open-label trial was conducted at 18 dialysis units owned by a large private dialysis provider operating in Portugal. Eligible patients were adults on chronic hemodialysis, with a new arteriovenous fistula (AVF); cannulated for at least 4 weeks complication-free. Patients were randomly assigned in a 11 ratio to one of three cannulation techniques (CT) Multiple Single cannulation Technique (MuST), rope-ladder (RLC), and buttonhole (BHC). The primary endpoint was AVF primary patency at 1 year.

One hundred seventy-two patients were enrolled between March 2014 and March 2017. Fifty-nine patients were allocated to MuST, 56 to RLC, and 57 to BHC. MuST and RLC were associated with a better AVF primary patency than BHC. Primary patency at 12 months was 76.3% in MuST, 59.6% in BHC, and 76.8% in RLC group. Mean AVF survival times were 10.5 months (95% CI=9.6, 11.3) in the MuST group, 10.4 months (95% CI=9.5, 11.2) in RLC, and 9.5 months (95% CI=8.6, 10.4) in BHC. BHC was a significant risk predictor for AVF survival with 2.13 times more events than the other two CT (HR 2.13; 95% CI=1.07, 4.21; p=0.03).

MuST was easy to implement without a diagram and there is no need to use blunt needles. This study showed MuST was efficacious and safe in maintaining the longevity of AVF in dialysis patients.

The aim of this case series was to assess the feasibility of a graft modification to increase its length when treating multiple adjacent gingival recessions with only one harvesting site at the palate and respecting the safety zone.

Nineteen recessions were treated in four consecutive patients with a modified coronally advanced tunnel and a modified connective tissue graft. An 8-mm height connective tissue graft was harvested by the single-incision technique, the graft was split longitudinally, achieving 4-mm height and double the length. Changes in recession depth, keratinized tissue height, mean and complete root coverage, and esthetic score were analyzed at 6months. The technique allows to harvest a connective tissue graft up to 58-mm length with a single palatal site. Complete root coverage was achieved in 15/19 recessions (78.94%), with a mean root coverage of 82.90%. The mean recession depth was reduced by 1.31mm and the keratinized tissue increased by 0.69mm. BMS-986235 molecular weight The esthetic outcome score was 9.26/10.

This graft modification technique allows increasing significantly the graft length up to 58mm without any modification of the surgical harvesting procedure. Therefore, it can be suggested to reduce the morbidity.

Due to the sparsity of events in such problems, meta-analysis that integrates information across multiple studies can be applied to increase the efficiency of statistical inference. Although it is critical to examine whether the effect sizes are homogeneous across all studies, a comprehensive review of homogeneity tests has been lacking, and in particular, no attention has been paid to infrequent dichotomous outcomes. We systematically review statistical methods for homogeneity testing. By conducting an extensive simulation analysis and two case studies, we examine the performance of 30 tests in meta-analysis of rare binary outcomes. When using log-odds ratio as the association measure, our simulation results suggest that there is no uniform winner. However, we recommend the test proposed by Kulinskaya and Dollinger (BMC Med Res Methodol, 2015, 15), which uses a gamma distribution to approximate the null distribution, for its generally good performance; for very rare events coupled with small within-study sample sizes, in addition to the Kulinskaya-Dollinger test, we further recommend the conditional score test based on the random-effects hypergeometric model proposed by Liang and Self (Biometrika, 1985, 72353-358). One should be cautious about the use of the Wald tests, the Lipsitz tests (Biometrics, 1998, 54148-160), and tests proposed by Bhaumik et al (J Am Stat Assoc, 2012, 107555-567).Methylenetetrahydrofolate dehydrogenase 2 (MTHFD2) is a bifunctional enzyme located in the mitochondria. MTHFD2 has been reported to be overexpressed in several malignant tumors and is implicated in cancer development. This study aimed to investigate the effect of MTHFD2 on ovarian cancer progression. The expression of MTHFD2 was detected by bioinformatics analysis, immunohistochemistry, RT-qPCR (real-time quantitative PCR analysis) and western blot analysis. The effects of MTHFD2 depletion on cell proliferation, migration and invasion were determined through in vitro experiments. Cell cycle progression and apoptosis were accessed by flow cytometry. The related signaling pathway protein expression was determined by western blot analysis. We found thatMTHFD2 is highly expressed in both ovarian cancer tissues and cell lines. MTHFD2 deletion suppressed cell proliferation and metastasis. Knockdown of MTHFD2 induces cell apoptosis and G2/M arrest, whereas the number of cells in S phase increased with MTHFD2 overexpression.
