Bedside Cots - The Safe Alternative to Co-Sleeping
A bedside crib is an upholstered bassinet cot that is attached to the side of your bed to ensure your baby is safe while you sleep. It allows you to see and reach your baby during feedings at night without having to disturb them. It is also perfect for those who have reflux.
NHS guidelines recommend that your baby sleeps in their own separate crib, cot or Moses basket for the first six months. A bedside crib could be a more affordable and practical alternative to a full size cot.
Safety
Cots are secure and safe places for babies to sleep. They are covered with high sides to prevent babies from falling out. The footboards and headboards are shaped to keep babies from getting trapped. Soft toys, cot bumpers, and wedges can be a choking hazard.
The Lullaby Trust advises that babies should not be sleeping in their parents' bed for the first six months of their life due to the risk in suffocation. A bedside crib is the ideal solution for parents who find it difficult to resist the temptation of sharing their bed with a sleeping child. These cribs are designed to be attached to the side of the bed where you can easily reach your baby without stepping out of the bed, and adhere to all safety standards.
The SnuzPod4 crib includes a side that you can lower to sleep in. The crib features dual-view mesh windows and an adjustable wall that can be lowered to allow it to be used as a stand-alone unit for a good night's sleep. It also complies with the latest cot safety standard and has an incline feature that helps soothe infants to sleep.
Check that the crib has been cleaned thoroughly and is the correct size for your child. It should be at least 50cm in depth to prevent your child from leaving the cot as they develop. Also, make sure to take away any stickers and transfer paper from the interior of the cot as they can fall off and create the risk of choking.
The cot should not be placed too close to the sun or radiator as babies can overheat and be at risk of developing SIDS. It should also be free of blind cords, since babies are known to get entangled and strangled in these cords. Duvets, pillows, and other bedding can suffocate babies, which is why the cot should not be full of these.
It's also a good idea to go through a safety guide for cots before purchasing your baby a. The NHS and the Lullaby Trust have lots of useful information and tips for sleeping safely for your baby. You can also take part in an NCT New Baby course to learn more about safe sleeping.
Design
Bedside cribs let you co-sleep safely with your baby. They are available in various designs. Some are bassinet-style and attaches to your bed so you can easily lift your baby up for a night feed or help soothe them back to sleep without getting out of the bed. Some are portable, such as the Slumber 3-in-1, a convertible travel cot that doubles as a cosleeper and playpen that can be used at home or when you are on the move.
It is important to keep in mind that, as with any sleeping arrangement for your baby the Lullaby Trust recommends ensuring that your baby is sleeping on their backs in order to reduce the chance of SIDS. When selecting a crib mattress, ensure that it is firm and flat and is able to fit snugly within the crib without gaps. It is also recommended to use a mattress cover that is breathable to shield the mattress from spills and accidents.
Celeb mums such as Stacey Solomon and Binky Felstead love bedside cribs, which are cots in the bassinet style that attach to the side of your bed. They have a drop-down or removable side that allows you to reach your baby during the night for feeding or soothing, and are especially beneficial for parents who are recovering from c-sections.
Portability
A bedside crib is a great way to keep your baby close, particularly during the first few months, when nappy changes and nighttime feeds changes are routine. It lets you attend to your baby's needs without having to get out of your own bed, and will help your child build an intimate relationship with you. It also allows you to get some restful sleep yourself.
The majority of bedside cots are portable, so you can move them around the room easily. They are great for small spaces. They can be used as a crib attached to your bed or used as a standalone crib. Some are even small enough to fit into your suitcase if you're travelling with your infant.
Some models come with a collapsible part that makes it easier to lift your child out to to feed them at night, or to calm him back to sleep. This is beneficial for mothers who breastfeed and reduces the risk of suffocation as well as sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). The majority of cribs for bedside use are suitable for babies up to six months old, but some are suitable for older children.

Cost
Bedside cribs are the most secure alternative to co-sleeping. They can help your baby gain independence by separating their sleep environment from yours. This is particularly beneficial in the first few months of life as your baby will require night feedings and frequent diaper changes. It's also a great solution for parents who struggle bending down to pick their child up.
Most bedside cots can be easily connected to your main mattress and come with a breathable baby mattress. You can add additional bedding, such as an incredibly soft fitted bed sheet to ensure your baby is secure and comfortable during the night. A comfortable, breathable mattress cover will keep the moisture off of the mattress and decrease the risk of SIDS or allergies.
The cost of a bedside crib can differ, but it's typically less expensive than the price of a larger crib. These cribs can also be ideal gifts for new parents. The Kinderkraft CoZee is fantastic example, providing excellent value for money. It can be used for an in-bed crib or a standalone bed. It also includes a breathable bed and the stand. Many of these cribs can be adjusted to fit the level of your mattress and some also have a slight angle to assist your child to sleep better.
It's tempting to purchase a used crib for your bed. But, it's essential to purchase a new mattress. Old or used mattresses can increase the risk of SIDS in your baby, and may not be as comfortable. It's important to make sure that the mattress is fitted correctly Certain cribs were created to fit only certain brands.
You can also purchase a cot-bed that grows with your child. They may be more expensive, but they're a good investment for your child's safety and health. These are also a good option if you're planning to have more than one child.
