No clear guidelines or available studies exist regarding the effects of intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) of esophageal cancer (EC) on the cardiovascular system. We therefore analyzed a wide range of cardiac vascular dosimetric parameters and clinical characteristics to assess the prognostic factors for EC patients treated with IMRT.

A total of 112 patients receiving IMRT at the Qianfoshan Hospital between July 2012 and May 2017 were retrospectively reviewed. The dose per fraction was 1.8-2.0 Gy, and the total dose range was 54-66 Gy. Kaplan-Meier analysis was used to estimate death due to heart disease. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models were calculated to test for associations between patient characteristics and dose-volume histogram (DVH) parameters. A
-test and chi-squared or Fisher's exact test was used to analyze the comparisons.

The maximum and mean doses received by the heart were 57.34±13.51 and 24.83±11.40 Gy, respectively. Among the parameters examined, which inclureatment of EC, the findings of which suggest that limiting radiation exposure may be an important measure in IMRT application. These findings of this study may provide theoretical support for prediction of radiation-induced heart disease (RIHD). Furthermore, to curb the risk of RIHD, the modality of chemotherapy also needs to be attentively monitored and managed.
Atrial fibrillation is the most common and long-lasting cardiac arrhythmia, and profoundly effects the daily lives of patients. The pathogenesis and persistence of atrial fibrillation is closely related to the cardiac fibroblast and its myofibroblast differentiation as increased collagen synthesis and migration capability. Thus better understanding of myofibroblast differentiation is essential for the prevention and treatment of atrial fibrillation.

Cardiac fibroblasts were isolated from neonatal rats and its actin structure was analyzed by immunofluorescence staining. Myofibroblast differentiation was induced by Angiotensin II (Ang II) and ROCK signaling related proteins were determined by western blot. Tacrolimus clinical trial Fasudil and Ricolinostat were employed to abrogate ROCK signaling and their effects on myofibroblast differentiation were assessed by IF microscopy and Celigo Image Cytometry.

Stress actin fibers similar to actin filaments in myofibroblast differentiation are regulated by ROCK signaling, and our results also suggested Guanine nucleotide exchange factor-H1 (GEF-H1) phosphorylation could be induced by Ang II. In addition, Fasudil could down-regulate RhoA, GEF-H1, and phosphorylated GEF-H1 to inhibit ROCK signaling and further reduce Col I expression and the myofibroblast proportion.

Vascular dementia (VaD) is a degenerative cerebrovascular disease that leads to progressive decline of patients' cognitive ability and memory. Yizhi Tongmai (YZTM) decoction is an empirical prescription first formulated by Professor Guomin Si. Our previous experiments proved the effectiveness of this prescription in the treatment of VaD. In this study, we aimed to use network pharmacology and molecular docking technology to systematically explain the potential anti-VaD mechanism of YZTM.

We identified the core compounds of YZTM and their potential targets through the TCMSP, BATMAN, and SwissTargetPrediction databases. Then, we identified the molecular targets of YZTM in VaD using the Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man and GeneCards databases. The common targets of YZTM and VaD were screened out, and then the pathways of these target genes were analyzed using the Database for Annotation, Visualization and Integrated Discovery v6.8. Molecular docking was used to verify the relationship between the core comnflammasome. In addition, TNF signaling pathway and toll-like receptor signaling pathway may also be its underlying mechanism. The application of network pharmacology and molecular docking technology may provide a novel method for research of Chinese herbal medicine. YZTM may also provide a complementary treatment option for patients with VaD.
While the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak has been largely kept under control in China, it remains a global pandemic, and the source, transmission route, and treatments of SARS-COV-2 are still being investigated. Here, we summarized the clinical features, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of COVID-19 patients based on our clinical practice.

The clinical and imaging findings, treatments, and follow-up data of 471 patients with COVID-19 who were discharged from the Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital prior to February 6, 2020, were retrospectively analyzed.

Among these patients, there were 2 mild cases, 282 moderate cases, 181 severe cases, and 6 critical cases. There were 250 males and 221 females aged 17 to 90 years. The median age was 54 years in the severe/critical group, which was significantly older than in the mild/moderate group (P<0.05). 44.59% of them had one or more underlying diseases.
