Up to 50% of the patients experience complications after colorectal cancer (CRC) surgery. Improved preoperative physical and nutritional status can enhance clinical outcomes and reduce postoperative complications. This retrospective, single-center, observational cohort study assessed the impact of a four-week multimodal prehabilitation program on postoperative complications, unplanned readmissions, length of stay, and mortality in elective high-risk CRC patients.

Elective high-risk CRC patients, defined as ASA ≥3 or ≥65yr, who attended the multimodal prehabilitation program (prehabilitation-group) were compared to a historical cohort receiving standard care (control-group). Differences in outcomes between these groups were tested using Fisher's Exact and Mann-Whitney U test. To adjust for confounding, multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed. The main study outcome was the occurrence of postoperative complications. Secondary outcomes included unplanned readmissions, length of hospital stay,CRC patients undergoing elective CRC surgery.Despite years of research, the mechanisms governing the onset, relapse, symptomatology, and treatment of schizophrenia (SZ) remain elusive. The lack of appropriate analytic tools to deal with the heterogeneity and complexity of SZ may be one of the reasons behind this situation. Deep learning, a subfield of artificial intelligence (AI) inspired by the nervous system, has recently provided an accessible way of modeling and analyzing complex, high-dimensional, nonlinear systems. The unprecedented accuracy of deep learning algorithms in classification and prediction tasks has revolutionized a wide range of scientific fields and is rapidly permeating SZ research. Deep learning has the potential of becoming a valuable aid for clinicians in the prediction, diagnosis, and treatment of SZ, especially in combination with principles from Bayesian statistics. Furthermore, deep learning could become a powerful tool for uncovering the mechanisms underlying SZ thanks to a growing number of techniques designed for improving model interpretability and causal reasoning. The purpose of this article is to introduce SZ researchers to the field of deep learning and review its latest applications in SZ research. In general, existing studies have yielded impressive results in classification and outcome prediction tasks. However, methodological concerns related to the assessment of model performance in several studies, the widespread use of small training datasets, and the little clinical value of some models suggest that some of these results should be taken with caution.This case report puts an emphasis on retaining and re-fixing any avulsed bony segments in the maxillofacial region and maintaining the periosteal layer whenever possible, especially in young patients. We sought to perform an umbrella review to systematically appraise and synthesize the current body of literature on the role of patient R&S in cancer care. A systematic search of the literature was conducted that focused on "cancer" (neoplasm, malignant neoplasm, malignancy), "spirituality" (beliefs, divine), and "religion" (specific practices like Christianity, faith, faith healing, prayer, Theology). A total of 41 review articles published from 1995 to 2019 were included 8 systematic reviews, 6 meta-analyses, 4 systematic reviews and meta-analysis, and 23 other general reviews. The number of studies included in each review ranged from 7 to 148, while 10 studies did not indicate sample size. Most articles did not focus on a specific cancer diagnosis (n = 36), stage of cancer (n = 32), or patient population (n = 34). Many articles noted that R&S had a positive impact on cancer care, yet some reviews reported inconclusive or negative results. Marked variation in methodological approaches to studying R&S among cancer patients, including operational definitions and measurement, were identified. Resolving these issues will be an important step to understanding how patients seek to have R&S integrated into their patient-centered cancer care experience.
Few adolescents spend enough time asleep on school nights. This problem could be addressed by delaying high school start times, but does this translate to reduced prevalence of sleep-wake problems like awakening too early or feeling sleepy during the day?

The START study (n= 2,414) followed a cohort of students from five Minnesota high schools to evaluate impacts of school start time delays. Participants were enrolled in ninth grade (Baseline) when all schools started early (730 or 745 a.m.). At Follow-Up 1 (10th grade) and Follow-Up 2 (11th grade), two schools had delayed their start times by 50 and 65minutes while three comparison schools started at 730 a.m. Six sleep-wake behaviors were assessed at all three time points via survey. Generalized estimating equation models were used to investigate changes in sleep-wake problems between policy change and comparison schools.

The prevalence of sleep-wake problems at Baseline ranged from 11% for being late to class due to oversleeping to 48% for needing to be told to wake multiple times in the morning. Compared to students from comparison schools, students at policy change schools reported smaller increases in the prevalence of feeling sleepy daily and oversleeping and being late to class between 9th and 11th grade. After implementation of the delayed start, awakening too early was more common among students at policy change schools compared to the comparison schools.

This longitudinal study provides evidence that delaying high school start times reduces daytime sleepiness and school tardiness.
