The best test between thoracic ultrasonography (TUS) and thoracic radiography (TR) or the best combination of tests (series or parallel) to detect active infectious bronchopneumonia (BP) in hospitalized dairy calves remains unknown.

To estimate performances of TUS and TR to detect active BP in hospitalized dairy calves and to determine the best strategy for using these tests based on a panel diagnosis method (PDM). Performances of TUS and TR were hypothesized to be equivalent.

Fifty hospitalized dairy calves (≥7 days old; ≤100 kg; standing; pCO
 ≥ 53 mm Hg; any reason of presentation).

Each calf prospectively and sequentially underwent physical examination, thoracic auscultation, blood analyses, and TUS and TR. Three blinded experts determined whether active BP was present/absent based on PDM. Krippendorff's alpha measured interexpert agreement. The sensitivities (Se) and specificities (Sp) of TUS and TR alone and in series or parallel were compared (McNemar's test; P < .05).

Interexpert agreement was moderate at 0.58 (95%CI 0.42; 0.73). The Se and Sp of TUS were 0.84 (95%CI 0.60; 0.97) and 0.74 (95%CI 0.57; 0.86), respectively. The Se and Sp of TR were 0.89 (95%CI 0.67; 0.99) and 0.58 (95%CI 0.39; 0.75), respectively. No significant difference was found in the Se and Sp of TUS and TR when analyzed alone, in series or in parallel.

In this study, the heat resistance of buds in two different phenological stages was experimentally assessed for 10 European tree species. Cellular heat tolerance of buds was analyzed by determining the electrolyte leakage following heat exposure. Further, the heat insulation capability was tested by measuring the time required to reach lethal internal temperatures linked to bud traits. Our results highlighted differences in cellular heat tolerance and insulation capability among the study species. The phenological stage was found to affect both the thermal stability of cells and the buds' insulation. Further, a good relationship between size-related bud traits and insulation capability was established. These programs provide injectable diacetylmorphine or hydromorphone to clients with severe opioid use disorders. Currently, they remain an under-executed and under-studied treatment modality. To better understand why this may be, we performed an evolutionary concept analysis as described by Rodgers. The attributes, antecedents, consequences, and surrogate terms of iOAT were unpacked and explored. Further, four themes were identified within the literature (1) physical and mental health, (2) illicit drug use, (3) criminal behavior, and (4) ethical considerations. Recommendations surrounding the need for additional studies that focus on the perspectives of people who use opioids (PWUO), the necessity of nursing advocacy in iOAT, and the consideration of a changing illicit drug supply were explored. Further, theoretical analysis coupled with direct input from PWUO was discussed as a necessity to move forward with iOAT.
Takotsubo syndrome following cardiac surgery is a rare occurrence. However, early diagnosis is essential to prevent treatment which could increase the left ventricular outflow tract pressure gradient in patients with Takotsubo syndrome, and lead to cardiogenic shock. Therefore, our study aimed to identify the incidence of Takotsubo syndrome after cardiopulmonary bypass and the associated risk factors and prognosis.

We retrospectively studied 5773 patients who underwent cardiopulmonary bypass between February 2007 and July 2017. Among these, Takotsubo syndrome was diagnosed in 52 (0.9%). To evaluate the risk factors for Takotsubo syndrome, 104 of the remaining 5721 patient were randomly selected as the control group (12 ratio). Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used for risk factor analysis.

Majority of patients (69.2%) in the Takotsubo syndrome group underwent mitral valve surgery, compared with 32.7% in the control group. The following risk factors of Takotsubo syndrome were identified atrio-ventricular valve surgery (odds ratio (OR) 10.5; 95% confidence interval (CI), 2.6-42.5; p = 0.001); and the immediate postoperative use of epinephrine (OR, 3.3; 95% CI, 1.0-10.7; p = 0.05) and dobutamine (OR, 4.8; 95% CI, 1.72-13.3; p = 0.003). Hypertension was a significant protective factor against Takotsubo syndrome following cardiac surgery (OR, 0.22; 95% CI, 0.06-0.73; p = 0.01).
