Mechanistically, miR-182 expression was positively regulated by SIRT1 in hepatic IR injury in mice, and miR-182 inhibited the expression of XBP1 by binding to the 3' untranslated region (UTR) of XBP1. The histone deacetylase SIRT1 inhibits the downstream XBP1/NLRP3 inflammatory pathway by activating miR-182, thus alleviating hepatic IR injury in mice.Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) can play significant regulatory roles in cells that affect the development and acquired drug resistance of lung cancer. Herein, we report that lncRNA linc00665 is significantly upregulated in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) tissues compared with adjacent normal tissues. linc00665 affects the sensitivity of NSCLC cells to the chemotherapy drug cisplatin (DDP), making it a potential target for the treatment of NSCLC. Functional experiments showed that linc00665 enhanced the proliferation and migration of NSCLC cells in vivo and in vitro, and knocking down linc00665 could enhance the drug sensitivity of NSCLC cells to DDP. Further work revealed that linc00665 could recruit enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2) to the promoter region of cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 1C (CDKN1C) to inhibit its transcription and thus carry out its tumorigenic role. In conclusion, our study elucidated the carcinogenic role of the linc00665-EZH2-CDKN1C axis in NSCLC tumors and its ability to influence the sensitivity of these tumors to DDP. These results suggest that linc00665 may be a potential diagnostic marker and therapeutic target in NSCLC, and they also provide a new direction for the development of clinical reversal methods for acquired drug resistance in patients with NSCLC.
Functional (psychogenic) movement disorders are involuntary movements that seems to originate from activation of voluntary motor pathways in the brain. The movements typically present during the waking hours with variable frequency.
We present the case of a 24-year-old woman with FMDs during the waking state, but also during stages 1 and 2 of non-REM sleep and REM sleep, recorded with polysomnography. Such movements caused arousal leading to excessive daytime sleepiness and fatigue.
FMDs may disrupt sleep causing day time somnolence, adding morbidity to the disorder.

Uranium workers are at risk of developing lung disease, characterized by low forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) and/or forced vital capacity (FVC). Previous studies have found an association between decreased lung function and depressive symptoms in patients with pulmonary pathologies, but this association has not been well examined in occupational cohorts, especially uranium workers.
This cross-sectional study evaluated the association between spirometric measures and depressive symptoms in a sample of elderly former uranium workers screened by the New Mexico Radiation Exposure Screening & Education Program (NM-RESEP). Race- and ethnicity-specific reference equations were used to determine predicted spirometric indices (predictor variable). At least one depressive symptom [depressed mood and/or anhedonia, as determined by a modified Patient Health Questionnaire-2 (PHQ-2)], was the outcome variables. Chi-square tests and multivariable logistic regression models were used for statistical anaening may help overcome workers' reluctance to self-report and seek treatment for depression and may avoid negative consequences to health and safety from missed diagnoses. In recent years, the social web has been increasingly used for health information seeking, sharing, and subsequent health-related research. Women often use the Internet or social networking sites to seek information related to pregnancy in different stages. They may ask questions about birth control, trying to conceive, labor, or taking care of a newborn or baby. Classifying different types of questions about pregnancy information (e.g., before, during, and after pregnancy) can inform the design of social media and professional websites for pregnancy education and support. This research aims to investigate the attention mechanism built-in or added on top of the BERT model in classifying and annotating the pregnancy-related questions posted on a community Q&A site. We evaluated two BERT-based models and compared them against the traditional machine learning models for question classification. Most importantly, we investigated two attention mechanisms the built-in self-attention mechanism of BERT and the additional attention layer on top of BERT for relevant term annotation. The classification performance showed that the BERT-based models worked better than the traditional models, and BERT with an additional attention layer can achieve higher overall precision than the basic BERT model. The results also showed that both attention mechanisms work differently on annotating relevant content, and they could serve as feature selection methods for text mining in general.Accessible interactive tools that integrate machine learning methods with clinical research and reduce the programming experience required are needed to move science forward. Here, we present Machine Learning for Medical Exploration and Data-Inspired Care (ML-MEDIC), a point-and-click, interactive tool with a visual interface for facilitating machine learning and statistical analyses in clinical research. We deployed ML-MEDIC in the American Heart Association (AHA) Precision Medicine Platform to provide secure internet access and facilitate collaboration. ML-MEDIC's efficacy for facilitating the adoption of machine learning was evaluated through two case studies in collaboration with clinical domain experts. A domain expert review was also conducted to obtain an impression of the usability and potential limitations.
Fluctuating asymmetry is often used as an indicator of developmental instability, and is proposed as a signal of genetic quality. The display of prominent masculine phenotypic features, which are a direct result of high androgen levels, is also believed to be a sign of genetic quality, as these hormones may act as immunosuppressants. find more Fluctuating asymmetry and masculinity are therefore expected to covary. However, there is lack of strong evidence in the literature regarding this hypothesis.
In this study, we examined a large dataset of high-density 3D facial scans of 1260 adults (630 males and 630 females). We mapped a high-density 3D facial mask onto the facial scans in order to obtain a high number of quasi-landmarks on the faces. Multi-dimensional measures of fluctuating asymmetry were extracted from the landmarks using Principal Component Analysis, and masculinity/femininity scores were obtained for each face using Partial Least Squares. The possible correlation between these two qualities was then examined using Pearson's coefficient and Canonical Correlation Analysis.
