Global durum wheat consumption (Triticum durum Desf.) is ahead of its production. One reason for this is abiotic stress, e.g., drought. Breeding for resistance to drought is complicated by the lack of fast, reproducible screening techniques and the inability to routinely create defined and repeatable water stress conditions. Here, we report the first analysis of dissection of yield and yield-related traits in durum wheat in Pakistan, seeking to elucidate the genetic components of yield and agronomic traits. Analysis of several traits revealed a total of 221 (160 with logarithm of odds (LOD) > 2 ≤ 3 and 61 with LOD > 3) quantitative trait loci (QTLs) distributed on all fourteen durum wheat chromosomes, of which 109 (78 with LOD > 2 ≤ 3 and 31 with LOD > 3) were observed in 2016-17 (S1) and 112 (82 with LOD > 2 ≤ 3 and 30 with LOD > 3) were observed in 2017-18 (S2). Allelic profiles of yield QTLs on chromosome 2A and 7B indicate that allele A of Xgwm895 and allele B of Xbarc276 can enhance the Yd up to 6.16% in control and 5.27% under drought. Moreover, if combined, a yield gain of up to 11% would be possible.Osteoarthritis (OA) progression is associated with joint pain and stiffness. Intra-articular hyaluronic acid (IAHA) injection in knee OA restores the viscoelasticity of the joint and prevents cartilage damage. Shea nut oil extract (SNO) was shown to provide chondroprotection on surgically-induced OA progression in rats. Here we aim to examine IAHA injection supplemented with SNO diet for a synergetic evaluation on the disease progression in OA rats. We employed an anterior cruciate ligament transection plus medial meniscectomy-induced knee OA rat model with up to 12 weeks of sign/behavior observation (knee width, weight-bearing) and histological assessments of joint damage. We found both IAHA and SNO alone significantly attenuated histological changes of cartilage degeneration and synovial reactions in these knee OA rats. Nonetheless, oral SNO alone mitigated OA pain and inflammation while IAHA alone had no significant impact on the weight-bearing test and knee joint swelling. Moreover, with IAHA-treated rats fed with oral SNO diet, additional anti-inflammatory and anti-nociceptive effects were found, which further enhanced and maintained IAHA protection. Given the differential phenotype of oral SNO vs. IAHA, a regimen of IAHA coupled with SNO supplement provides a long-term effect of IAHA treatment. Taken together, the SNO supplement can be safely used as an adjuvant diet for chronic symptomatic relief of OA coupled with IAHA management.Recently, the potential of nanoparticles (NPs) in ulcerative colitis (UC) therapy has been increasingly demonstrated. In the present study, release behaviors and biodistribution were investigated in detail to elucidate the functional mechanisms. Rats with 2,4,6-trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS)-induced ulcerative colitis (UC) were used as biomodels. In vitro release was examined with or without the contents of the cecum or distal colon. Gastrointestinal distribution and plasma concentrations were investigated after the intragastric administration of 10 mg prednisolone (PD) eq./kg. At pH 1.2 and 6.8, release behaviors were slow, but controlled. Overall release was not markedly different irrespective of coexistence of intestinal contents. In in vivo studies, a large amount of PD was distributed in the lower parts of the gastrointestinal tract 6 and 12 h after administration with NG(S). PD accumulated well in the colonic parts, and prolonged release was noted. The systemic absorption of PD with NG(S) was hardly found. NG(S) concentrated the drug in the colon and showed controlled release. These behaviors were considered to lead to the previously reported good results, promotion of effectiveness and suppression of toxic side effects.This paper explores the microstructural evolution characteristics of tailings sand samples of different types of infiltration failure during the infiltration failure process. The homemade small infiltration deformation instrument is used to test the infiltration failure characteristics of the tailings sand during the infiltration failure process. Evolutionary characteristics of the internal microstructure pores and particle distribution were also studied. Using CT (computerized tomography) technology to establish digital image information, the distribution of the microscopic characteristics of the particle distribution and pore structure after tailing sand infiltration were studied. Microscopic analysis was also performed to analyze the microscopic process of infiltration and destruction, as well as to see the microscopic structural characteristics of the infiltration and destruction of the total tailings. The test results show that there are obvious differences in the microstructure characterization of fluid soil and piping-type infiltration failures. Microstructure parameters have a certain functional relationship with macrofactors. Combining the relationship between macrophysical and mechanical parameters and microstructural parameters, new ideas for future research and the prevention of tailings sand infiltration and failure mechanisms is provided.In the absence of evidence-based screening recommendations for women with dense breasts, it is important to know if breast density notification increases women's anxiety. This study describes psychological reactions and future screening intentions of women attending a public mammographic screening program in Western Australia. Two-thirds of notified women indicated that knowing their breast density made them feel informed, 21% described feeling anxious, and 23% confused. Of the notified women who reported anxiety, 96% intended to re-screen when due (compared to 91% of all notified women and 93% of controls; p = 0.007 and p less then 0.001, respectively). In summary, reported anxiety (following breast density notification) appears to increase women's intentions for future screening, not the reverse.
