Finally, we also found that Hui group might have gene exchanges with Uygur, Tibetan, and Tajik groups in different degrees and retained minor genetic imprint of European-specific lineages, therefore, hinting the existence of multi-ethnic integration events in shaping the genetic landscape of Chinese Hui group.Fibrotic disease, which is implicated in almost half of all deaths worldwide, is the result of an uncontrolled wound healing response to injury in which tissue is replaced by deposition of excess extracellular matrix, leading to fibrosis and loss of organ function. A plethora of genome-wide association studies, microarrays, exome sequencing studies, DNA methylation arrays, next-generation sequencing, and profiling of noncoding RNAs have been performed in patient-derived fibrotic tissue, with the shared goal of utilizing genomics to identify the transcriptional networks and biological pathways underlying the development of fibrotic diseases. In this review, we discuss fibrosing disorders of the skin, liver, kidney, lung, and heart, systematically (1) characterizing the initial acute injury that drives unresolved inflammation, (2) identifying genomic studies that have defined the pathologic gene changes leading to excess matrix deposition and fibrogenesis, and (3) summarizing therapies targeting pro-fibrotic genes and networks identified in the genomic studies. Ultimately, successful bench-to-bedside translation of observations from genomic studies will result in the development of novel anti-fibrotic therapeutics that improve functional quality of life for patients and decrease mortality from fibrotic diseases.(1) Ultimate frisbee involves frequent cutting motions, which have a high risk of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, especially for female players. This study investigated the in-game cutting maneuvers performed by female ultimate frisbee athletes to understand the movements that could put them at risk of ACL injury. (2) Lower-body kinematics and movement around the field were reconstructed from wearable lower-body inertial sensors worn by 12 female players during 16 league-sanctioned ultimate frisbee games. (3) 422 cuts were identified from speed and direction change criteria. The mean cut had approach speed of 3.4 m/s, approach acceleration of 3.1 m/s2, cut angle of 94 degrees, and ground-contact knee flexion of 34 degrees. Shallow cuts from 30 to 90 degrees were most common. Speed and acceleration did not change based on cut angle. Players on more competitive teams had higher speed and acceleration and reduced knee flexion during cutting. (4) This study demonstrates that a lower-body set of wearable inertial sensors can successfully track an athlete's motion during real games, producing detailed biomechanical metrics of behavior and performance. These in-game measurements can be used to specify controlled cutting movements in future laboratory studies. These studies should prioritize higher-level players since they may exhibit higher-risk cutting behavior.Liver transplantation (LT) remains a mainstay of treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Tumor factors such as size and number of tumors define eligibility for LT using the Milan criteria. The tumor burden score (TBS) incorporates both tumor number and size into a single continuous variable and has been used to differentiate prognosis among patients undergoing resection for HCC. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the ability of the TBS to predict overall and recurrence-free survival in patients undergoing LT for HCC. The Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients (SRTR) was used to analyze all liver transplants for HCC, with initial tumor size data from 2004 to 2018. There were 12,486 patients in the study period. In the unadjusted analyses, patients with a high TBS had worse overall (p less then 0.0001) and recurrence-free (p less then 0.0001) survival. In the adjusted analyses, a high TBS was associated with a greater hazard ratio (HR) of death (HR = 1.21; 95%CI, [1.13-1.30]; p less then 0.001) and recurrence (HR = 1.49; 95%CI [1.3-1.7]; p less then 0.001). When we superimposed the TBS on the Milan criteria, we saw that a higher TBS was associated with a higher hazard of recurrence at values that were either all within (HR = 1.20; 95%CI, [1.04-1.37]; p = 0.011) or variably within (HR = 1.53; 95%CI, [1.16-2.01]; p = 0.002) the Milan criteria. In conclusion, the TBS is a promising tool in predicting outcomes in patients with HCC after LT.Poly (lactic acid) (PLA), due to its biodegradability, biocompatibility, and renewability, is one of the most promising biobased polymers for replacing some of the petrol-based materials. Low flexibility of PLA is overcome, by blending it with olefin-based polymers, such as polypropylene (PP). However, the use of compatibilizing agents is required to attain final materials with suitable mechanical properties. Such agents, although essential, can affect PLA structure and, consequently, the mechanical properties of the PLA. To the best of our knowledge, this issue was never studied, and the results can contribute to achieving the best formulations of PLA-based blends according to their final applications. The thermal and mechanical properties of the extruded PLA, with three different commercial compatibilizing agents, were evaluated with the purpose of demonstrating how the compatibilizers can introduce structural differences into the PLA chain during the extrusion process. The combination of crystallinity, molecular weight, and the morphology of the samples after extrusion determines the final mechanical properties of PLA. Despite being a fundamental study, it is our aim to contribute to the sustainability of PLA-based industries. The addition of a 2.5% concentration of C1 compatibilizer seems to have less influence on the final morphology and mechanical properties of the blends. This paper reports new formulations based on chitosan, citral, and diclofenac sodium salt (DCF). The central idea was to encapsulate an anionic drug into a polycationic hydrogel matrix in order to increase the intermolecular forces between them and thus to ensure slower drug release, while citral was used as a penetration enhancer to assure efficient delivery of the drug. Hydrogels without drug were also synthesized and used as a reference. The structure, morphology, and supramolecular architecture of the drug delivery systems were evaluated by FTIR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, polarized optical microscopy, and wide-angle X-ray diffraction. KP457 The drug release kinetics was monitored in vitro by UV-VIS spectroscopy, in physiological conditions, while the enzymatic and hydrolytic degradability of the hydrogels were evaluated in the presence of lysozyme and phosphate buffer saline (PBS), at 37 °C. All of the data revealed that the anionic DCF was strongly anchored into the polycationic matrix and the drug was slowly released over 7 days.
