Like any health care practitioner, dental hygienists can experience mistreatment in the workplace. They can be subjected to harassment, bullying, abuse, and violence. These negative experiences can have adverse consequences on psychological and physical well-being and can lead to job dissatisfaction, depression, and burnout. The aim of this study was to describe dental hygienists' experiences related to healthy and respectful workplaces.

This was an online self-administered survey sent to all members of the Canadian Dental Hygienists Association. Respondents were asked to report the occurrence, frequency, and impact of different types of mistreatment as experienced over their career.

In total, 3,780 dental hygienists responded to the survey (response rate = 22%). More than 70% of respondents experienced some form of mistreatment over their career from dentists, office managers, coworkers, and/or patients. Of those who experienced mistreatment, 67% reported losing the respect they felt for the offending viors, and 3) providing help and support to individuals who experience these incidents.Salivary gland hypofunction after irradiation is associated with a deficit of epithelial stem/progenitors in salivary glands. Although epidermal growth factor (EGF) is known to stimulate the proliferation of epithelial cells, the therapeutic effect of EGF on salivary epithelial stem/progenitors remains undetermined. In this study, we administered EGF to submandibular glands (SMGs) via a retrograde route through the SMG excretory duct before fractionated irradiation and examined whether EGF could protect salivary epithelial progenitor cells from radiation and alleviate radiation-induced salivary hypofunction. EGF-treated mice exhibited greater body and gland weights at 12 wk after irradiation than untreated mice. The retroductal delivery of EGF improved salivary secretory function and increased salivary amylase activity in a dose-dependent manner. Histological examinations highlighted the amelioration of the loss of keratine-14+ (KRT14+) basal ductal and/or MIST1+ acinar cells, as well as induction of fibrosis, following irradiation in EGF-treated mice. An additional in vitro experiment using a salivary gland organoid irradiation model indicated that the radioprotective effects of EGF promoted the growth and inhibited the apoptotic cell death of salivary epithelial cells. Our results suggest that retroductal delivery of EGF may be a promising therapeutic option for preventing radiation-induced salivary gland hypofunction.A retrospective cohort analysis was performed on 79 consecutive patients between 6 months and 5 years admitted to a tertiary hospital with a diagnosis of complex febrile seizures requiring mechanical ventilation from 2011 to 2017 to determine the utility of infectious and neurologic diagnostics. Intubation was used as a proxy for severity of illness. The overall intensive care unit stay was short (95% intubated less then 24 hours, 88% admitted less then 3 days). No life-threatening infections were identified, and none required surgical interventions. OT-82 chemical structure Electroencephalogram (EEG) was obtained on 43%, 26% of which were abnormal. Sixty-six percent of patients were discharged on rescue benzodiazepine and 20% with maintenance antiseizure medications. Duration of follow-up averaged 4 years (range 1 month to 9 years); 8 patients (10%) were subsequently diagnosed with epilepsy. Our findings suggest that extensive diagnostic evaluations may not be necessary for children with complex febrile seizures requiring mechanical ventilation although the role of EEG is less understood.
The purpose of this study was to determine the results of an arthrodesis technique of the first metatarsophalangeal joint (MTPJ) using a precontoured dorsal plate to correct the hallux valgus deformity.

This was a retrospective analysis of outcomes for first MTPJ arthrodesis performed using 2 precontoured dorsal plates. Radiographic outcomes (intermetatarsal angle [IMA] and hallux valgus angle [HVA]) and patient-reported functional outcome measures (Short-Form 12 and Foot and Ankle Outcome Score) were recorded and compared.

Fifty-five patients underwent 77 first MTPJ arthrodeses for severe hallux valgus deformity with associated degenerative changes at the first MTPJ. The mean reduction of the IMA was 5.67° (
< .05) and the mean reduction of the HVA was 33° (
< .05). The Short-Form 12 assessment of global health demonstrated a significant improvement in both the physical and mental health composite scores by 16.4 points and 10.4 points (
< .05), respectively. The Foot and Ankle Outcome Score demonstrated a cumulative decrease of 35% (59.28;
< .05) in all domains.

First MTPJ arthrodesis using a precontoured dorsal plate is a successful procedure with a high union rate, low complication rate, and a high level of patient-reported satisfaction.

From the sixth wave of the 2016 Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging (KLoSA), a sample of 1,224 Korean older adults aged above 65 years was used; binary logistic regression was conducted to identify the association of PHI and purchase decision factors, first separately for two groups (lower/higher use of health care services), and then for the total group. The results showed that older adults with higher levels of well-being, especially with a higher successful aging index and coping resources such as income are more likely to purchase PHI in all three groups.
