Anaphylaxis is a recognized public health issue. There is no doubt that food-induced anaphylaxis (FIA) has tremendous impact on the quality of life of patients and their families and increases direct and indirect costs. FIA is associated with increasing rates of emergency department admissions and hospitalizations and implies the risk of death. Morbidity epidemiological data are a key to tailor public health actions to this non-communicable disease. The aim of this article was to review published morbidity epidemiological data relating to FIA and potential risk factors, in order to provide evidence-based recommendations to reduce the risk of severe adverse outcomes.
We identified published studies available in PUBMED/MEDLINE (1966-2020), EMBASE (1980-2020) and CINAHL (1982-2020). The systematic review was carried out using MeSH terms related to FIA ED admissions and hospitalizations.
A total of 25 articles were selected, 80% published in the last 5years. After critical analysis of methodological and cliatterns related to FIA morbidity published data, we proposed strategies in order to promote quality care of patients suffering from FIA. Our World Health Organization Collaborative Center is deeply involved in this process, and we believe that the proposed strategies will inform future healthcare policies on anaphylaxis. The long-term objective would be to improve clinical care and quality of life of patients and their families, and develop risk-stratified, cost-effective preventive measures.
Trajectory analysis has been used to study long-term offending patterns and identify offender subgroups, but few such studies have included people with psychotic disorders (PDs) and these have been restricted to adult offenders.
To compare offending trajectories among 10-26-year-olds with PDs with those with other mental disorders (OMDs) or none (NMD) and identify associated risk factors.
This is a record-linkage study of 184,147 people born in Western Australia (WA) 1983-1991, drawing on data from WA mental health information system, WA corrective services and other state-wide registers. Group-based trajectory modelling was used to identify offending trajectories.
Four offender groups were identified in each mental health status group G1-no/negligible offending; G2-early onset, adolescent, desisting by age 18; G3-early onset, low rate, offending into early adulthood; and G4-very early onset, high rate, peaking at age 17, continuing into early adulthood. The PDs group had the lowest proportion of inding subgroup is to be helped away from criminal justice involvement, interventions must be considered in childhood.Hereditary epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a mechanobullous skin fragility disorder characterized by defective epithelial adhesion, leading to mechanical stress-induced skin blistering. Based on the level of tissue separation within the dermal-epidermal junction, EB is categorized into simplex (EBS), junctional (JEB), dystrophic (DEB) and Kindler syndrome. There is no cure for EB, and painful chronic cutaneous wounds are one of the major complications in recessive (RDEB) patients. Although RDEB is considered a cutaneous disease, recent data support the underlying systemic immunological defects. Furthermore, chronic wounds are often colonized with pathogenic microbiota, leading to excessive inflammation and altered wound healing. Consequently, patients with RDEB suffer from a painful sensation of chronic, cutaneous itching/burning and an endless battle with bacterial infections. To improve their quality of life and life expectancy, it is important to prevent cutaneous infections, dampen chronic inflammation and stimulate wound healing. A clear scientific understanding of the immunological events underlying the maintenance of chronic poorly healing wounds in RDEB patients is necessary to improve disease management and better understand other wound healing disorders. In this review, we summarize current knowledge of the role of professional phagocytes, such as neutrophils, macrophages and dendritic cells, the role of T-cell-mediated immunity in lymphoid organs, and the association of microbiota with poor wound healing in RDEB. We conclude that RDEB patients have an underlying immunity defect that seems to affect antibacterial immunity. The effect of heat treatment on fruit firmness and related enzymes, acidity and related enzymes, and energy metabolism on postharvest apple fruit was investigated. Results showed that heat treatment prevented softening at the early stage and maintained acidity. Compared with the control, heat treatment markedly inhibited the transcript level of MdcyME1-3 but improved the transcript level of MdPG3 and MdGAL1, thus heat-treated fruit exhibited higher activity of polygalacturonase (PG) and β-galactosidase (β-Gal). Moreover, levels of energy charge in heat-treated fruit were significantly higher than that in the control fruit. Bismuthsubnitrate These results suggested that β-Gal played an important role in apple fruit softening at the later storage, and heat treatment maintained acidity and energy metabolism while enhanced the activity of cell wall enzymes. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS To reveal the mechanism of energy metabolism affecting fruit softening and change in fruit acidity, the enzyme activity and gene expression of apple fruits after heat treatment were studied. By comparing the heat treatment group with the control group, this study successfully explained the genomic mechanism controlling apple fruit acidity and softening in the fruit mature period at high level of energy charge, found key cell wall enzymes and candidate genes, and supplied theoretical guidance for maintaining the fruit quality of "Golden Delicious" fruit.During the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic, chlorine-containing disinfectants have been widely used in nucleic acid amplification testing laboratories. Whether the use of disinfectants affect the results of viral nucleic acid amplification is unknown. We examined the impact of different hypochlorous acid (HOCl) concentrations on the quantitative results of SARS-CoV-2 by real-time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). We also explored the mechanisms and models of action of chlorine-containing disinfectants that affected the detection of SARS-CoV-2. The results showed that different HOCl concentrations and different action times had an impact on the SARS-CoV-2 results. High concentrations of ambient HOCl have a greater impact than low concentrations, and this effect will increase with the extension of the action time and with the increase in ambient humidity. Compared with the enzymes or the extracted RNA required for RT-PCR, the impact of HOCl on the SARS-CoV-2 detection is more likely to be caused by damage to primers and probes in the PCR system.
