Ranolazine (RAN) has previously been shown to lower the onset of cholinergic atrial fibrillation in intact animals; however, its efficacy in the setting of atrial tachycardia (AT) is unknown. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of RAN alone or in combination with amiodarone (AMIO) on rapid pacing-evoked right AT in rabbit hearts. Right atrial monophasic action potentials (MAPs) were recorded in 11 anesthetized rabbits, using combination MAP pacing catheters. Vulnerability to AT was tested by employing consecutive trains of rapid burst pacing prior to and after 2.4 mg/kg of RAN alone delivered intravenously and then in combination with 3 mg/kg of AMIO as a 15-minute infusion. Primary endpoints were postdrug AT reproducibility as well as cycle length (CL) and tachycardia duration. MAP duration at 75% repolarization and the effective refractory period (ERP) were assessed during programmed pacing to calculate the atrial postrepolarization refractoriness (aPRR = ERP - MAPD75%). AT was elicited in eight out of 11 rabbits; only these animals were included for further investigation. RAN did not abolish the inducibility of AT in any experiment; however, it prolonged its CL (baseline vs. RAN 120 ± 16 ms vs. 138 ± 18 ms; p = 0.053). Supplemental AMIO further increased the AT CL (baseline vs. RAN + AMIO 120 ± 16 ms vs. 152 ± 23 ms; p = 0.006), without affecting arrhythmia reinducibility. Slowing of the tachycardia after RAN or RAN + AMIO was associated with spontaneous termination of the arrhythmia. RAN prolonged the aPRR significantly, while AMIO in addition to RAN potentiated this effect. Neither RAN alone nor its combination with AMIO abolished the elicitation of AT in this model. CRCD2 mouse However, both agents synergistically prolonged the aPRR, resulting in the slowing of AT and promoting spontaneous termination of the arrhythmia.COVID-19 comes out as a sudden pandemic disease within human population. The pandemic dynamics of COVID-19 needs to be studied in detail. A pandemic model with hierarchical quarantine and time delay is proposed in this paper. In the COVID-19 case, the virus incubation period and the antibody failure will cause the time delay and reinfection, respectively, and the hierarchical quarantine strategy includes home isolation and quarantine in hospital. These factors that affect the spread of COVID-19 are well considered and analyzed in the model. The stability of the equilibrium and the nonlinear dynamics is studied as well. The threshold value τ k of the bifurcation is deduced and quantitatively analyzed. Numerical simulations are performed to establish the analytical results with suitable examples. The research reveals that the COVID-19 outbreak may recur over a period of time, which can be helpful to increase the number of tested people with or without symptoms in order to be able to early identify the clusters of infection. And before the effective vaccine is successfully developed, the hierarchical quarantine strategy is currently the best way to prevent the spread of this pandemic.
This study investigated adolescents' appraisals of responses to problematic situations and their relations to behavioral intentions for aggressive and nonviolent behavior. A key question was whether ratings of effective and ineffective nonviolent responses and aggressive responses reflect distinct constructs or opposite ends of a single dimension.

A sample of 183 students at three middle schools in an urban public school system serving a mostly African American population completed measures of aggression, and rated responses to hypothetical situations on five dimensions behavioral intention, effectiveness, descriptive norms, and anticipated reactions from friends and parents. Responses included nonviolent responses and aggressive responses to problematic situations identified in previous qualitative studies. Nonviolent responses were categorized as effective or ineffective based on ratings by a community sample of youth and adults.

Confirmatory factor analyses supported separate factors representing ratdevelopment of violence prevention programs.Agricultural sources and non-agricultural emissions contribute to gaseous ammonia (NH3) that plays a vital role in severe haze formation. Qualitative and quantitative contributions of these sources to ambient PM2.5 (particulate matter with an aerodynamic equivalent diameter below 2.5 µm) concentrations remains uncertain. Stable nitrogen isotopic composition (δ15N) of NH3 and NH4 + (δ15N(NH3) and δ15N(NH4 +), respectively) can yield valuable information about its sources and associated processes. This review provides an overview of the recent progress in analytical techniques for δ15N(NH3) and δ15N(NH4 +) measurement, sampling of atmospheric NH3 and NH4 + in the ambient air and their sources signature (e.g., agricultural vs. fossil fuel), and isotope-based source apportionment of NH3 in urban atmosphere. This study highlights that collecting sample that are fully representative of emission sources remains a challenge in fingerprinting δ15N(NH3) values of NH3 emission sources. For surface water, the average concentrations of five antibiotic classes decreased in the order sulfonamides (117.9 ng/L) > β-lactams (31.28 ng/L) > quinolones (20.19 ng/L) > macrolides (17.74 ng/L) > trimethoprim (8.93 ng/L). While the highest concentration of SMX was detected at 806.5 ng/L in surface water, those obtained in sediment were only at 1.35 ng/g because of their high solubility in water. Quinolones were found at a maximal concentration of 158.7 ng/L for OFL in water phase whereas those in sediment phase were 4,017 ng/g due to their great affinity in sediment. These findings revealed the different fate and release mechanisms of each antibiotic group in the environment.
