The current study indicated that studied microalgae, notably AC, can be used to enhance performance and meat quality in broilers chickens.Significant progress has been made in developing intervention programmes for adolescents at high risk of delinquency, school failure and emotional problems. The most effective programmes incorporate behavioural and skills training aimed at changing attitudes and promoting psychosocial and emotional skills in adolescents. This study examined the effectiveness of a school-based intervention programme based on the Reasoning and Rehabilitation V2 (R&R2). R&R2 is a cognitive behavioural programme developed using psychological theories about the aetiology of delinquency, as well as the cognitive, behavioural and socioemotional deficits in high-risk youth populations. A sample of 142 students (aged 13-17 years old) who were attending alternative education provision in Spain were randomly assigned to two experimental conditions (68 experimental group, 74 control group). The results showed that the R&R2 improved participants' self-esteem, social skills, empathy and rational problem-solving with a medium-large effect size (η2 = 0.08 to 0.26). The effects of the programme were significant after controlling for age and the pre-test scores in baseline. These findings confirm the effectiveness of the Reasoning and Rehabilitation V2 programme in Spanish adolescent students and offer additional evidence regarding the implementation of the R&R2 programme in both alternative educational and mainstream school settings.Pyropia yezoensis, a red alga, is popular and harvested a lot in East Asia and is famous for its medicinal properties attributable to its bioactive compounds including amino acids (porphyra-334 and shinorine, etc.), polysaccharides, phytosterols, and pigments, but its anti-inflammatory effect and mechanism of anti-atopic dermatitis (AD) have not been elucidated. In this study, we investigate the anti-AD effect of P. yezoensis extract (PYE) on mRNA and protein levels of the pro-inflammatory chemokines, thymus, and activation-regulated chemokine (TARC/CCL17) and macrophage-derived chemokine (MDC/CCL22), in human HaCaT keratinocyte cells treated to interferon (IFN)-γ or tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α (10 ng/mL each). The effect of the PYE on extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) and other mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) was related to its suppression of TARC and MDC production by blocking NF-κB activation in HaCaT cells. Furthermore, astaxanthin and xanthophyll from P. yezoensis were identified as anti-AD candidate compounds. These results suggest that the PYE may improve AD and contained two carotenoids by regulating pro-inflammatory chemokines.BACKGROUND Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is performed in a wide range of institutions. We sought to assess the relationship between coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) volume relative to PCI volume and clinical outcome using nationally representative PCI and CABG registries in Japan. METHODS This was a collaborative, registry-based cohort study enrolling patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention in 2013-2014 using Japanese nationwide registry (J-PCI) with follow up until discharge. The absolute volume of CABG for each hospital was calculated using additional data from Japan CardioVascular Surgery Database (JCVSD). Patients undergoing their first PCI registered in the registry (N = 220,934), at 943 facilities were studied. Main outcomes were in-hospital mortality, and incidence of composite of in-hospital death and postprocedural complications. RESULTS Among the 220,934 patients, 162,411 were men, with a mean age of 69.7 (SD 11.6) years. Patients underwent PCI at hospitals with varying CABG volume The overall in-hospital mortality and composite event rate for PCI patients was 0.9% and 2.4%, respectively. CABG volume was associated with the in-hospital mortality of PCI at facilities performing less than 200 PCIs per year, but not at facilities performing 200 or more. Similarly, in-hospital mortality or complication was associated with PCI volume less then 200 only if no CABG is done at the facility. The result remained largely consistent in subgroup of patients presenting with acute coronary syndrome or even after excluding these institutions with extremely low number of PCI ( less then 50 cases/year) or CABG ( less then 15 cases / year). CONCLUSIONS In a nationwide registry-based analysis, the surgical volume was associated with patients' clinical outcome after PCI, when limited number of PCIs were performed at the facility.BACKGROUND Creatine monohydrate is a nutritional supplement often consumed by athletes in anaerobic sports. Creatine is naturally found in most meat products; therefore, vegetarians have reduced creatine stores and may benefit from supplementation. OBJECTIVE to determine the effects of creatine supplementation on vegetarians. DATA SOURCES PubMed and SPORTDiscus. Eligibility criteria Randomized controlled trials (parallel group, cross-over studies) or prospective studies. click here PARTICIPANTS Vegetarians. INTERVENTION Creatine supplementation. Study appraisal and synthesis A total of 64 records were identified, and eleven full-text articles (covering nine studies) were included in this systematic review. RESULTS Creatine supplementation in vegetarians increased total creatine, creatine, and phosphocreatine concentrations in vastus lateralis and gastrocnemius muscle, plasma, and red blood cells, often to levels greater than omnivores. Creatine supplementation had no effect on brain levels of phosphocreatine. Creatine supplementation increased lean tissue mass, type II fiber area, insulin-like growth factor-1, muscular strength, muscular endurance, Wingate mean power output, and brain function (memory and intelligence) in vegetarian participants. Studies were mixed on whether creatine supplementation improved exercise performance in vegetarians to a greater extent compared to omnivores. LIMITATIONS Studies that were reviewed had moderate-high risk of bias. CONCLUSIONS Overall, it appears vegetarian athletes are likely to benefit from creatine supplementation.
