Hence this paper documented the application of species specific polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (SP-PCR-RFLP) assay targeting a short-fragments (69 bp) of mitochondrial cytochrome b (cytb) gene to screen feline meat in commercial meat products using lab-on-a-chip. The SP-PCR assay proved its specificity theoretically and experimentally while testing with different common animal, aquatic and plant species of DNA. The feline specific (69 bp, 43- and 26-bp) characteristic molecular DNA pattern was observed by SP-PCR and RFLP analysis. For assay performance, it was tested in three different types of commercial dummy meat products such as frankfurters, nuggets and meatballs and digested with AluI-restriction enzyme. The highest sensitivity of the assay using lab-on-a-chip was as low as 0.1 pg or 0.01 % (w/w) in commercial dummy meat products. We have also applied this assay to screen three important commercial meat products of six different brand from six supermarket chains located at three different states of Malaysia. Thus total 378 samples were tested to validate the specificity, sensitivity, stability of the assay and utilization of it for commercial meat product screening.In this paper, we develop parameter-robust numerical algorithms for Biot model and apply the algorithms in brain edema simulations. By introducing an intermediate variable, we derive a multiphysics reformulation of the Biot model. Based on the reformulation, the Biot model is viewed as a generalized Stokes subproblem combining with a reaction-diffusion subproblem. Solving the two subproblems together or separately leads to a coupled or a decoupled algorithm. We conduct extensive numerical experiments to show that the two algorithms are robust with respect to the key physical parameters. The algorithms are applied to study the brain swelling caused by abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in injured areas. The effects of the key physical parameters on brain swelling are carefully investigated. It is observed that the permeability has the biggest influence on intracranial pressure (ICP) and tissue deformation; the Young's modulus and the Poisson ratio do not affect the maximum value of ICP too much but have big influence on the tissue deformation and the developing speed of brain swelling.and accurate prediction of clean energy can supply an important reference for governments to formulate social and economic development policies. This paper begins with the logistic equation which is the whitening equation of the Verhulst model, introduces the Riccati equation with constant coefficients to optimize the whitening equation, and establishes a grey prediction model (CCRGM(1,1)) based on the Riccati equation. This model organically combines the characteristics of the grey model, and flexibly improves the modelling precision. Furthermore, the nonlinear term is optimized by the simulated annealing algorithm. To illustrate the validation of the new model, two kinds of clean energy consumption in the actual area are selected as the research objects. Compared with six other grey prediction models, CCRGM(1,1) model has the highest accuracy in simulation and prediction. Finally, this model is used to predict the nuclear and hydroelectricity energy consumption in North America from 2019 to 2028. The results predict that nuclear energy consumption will keep rising in the next decade, while hydroelectricity energy consumption will rise to a peak and subsequently fall back, which offers important information for the governments of North America to formulate energy measures.Three-material decomposition is crucial for material quantification when more than two elemental materials, including a K-edge material, are presented in an image object. In principle, three-material decomposition requires a triple energy scan which cannot be directly accomplished using a conventional dual energy CT system. In this work, a new scheme to enable three-material decomposition by employing phase contrast CT was presented. selleck chemical When a grating interferometer is added, a conventional absorption dual energy CT system can be upgraded to a phase contrast dual energy CT system which provides an additional phase signal related to the real part of the refractive index of an image object, along with the absorption signal under two different x-ray spectra. In this work, a three-material decomposition method was proposed for the aforementioned dual energy phase contrast CT system. Physical experimental studies were performed on a benchtop x-ray Talbot-Lau interferometer system to validate the proposed method. A physical phantom, containing calcium and iodine inserts of known concentrations, was used as the image object. A rotation-rotation dual energy phase contrast CT scan was performed under 40 and 80 kVp tube potentials. For each view angle, a phase stepping procedure with five phase steps was performed. After the phase retrieval procedure and image reconstruction using the standard filtered-back projection, the solutions were decomposed into the calcium, iodine and water bases based on the proposed decomposition method. For all the solutions, the relative quantification errors of the concentrations were within 10%.
