What is Pragmatism?

People who are pragmatic choose actions and solutions that are likely to work in the real world. They don't get entangled in idealistic theories which may not be practical in the real world.

This article outlines three principles of pragmatic inquiry and provides two project examples on the organization processes of non-governmental organizations. It suggests that pragmatic approach is an effective research paradigm to study the dynamic processes.

Other pragmatists were concerned about broad-based realism - whether as scientific realism which holds a monism about truth (following Peirce), or an alethic pluralism that is more broad-based (following James and Dewey).

The pragmatic movement is growing today around the world. There are pragmatists throughout Europe, America, and Asia who are concerned about various issues, ranging from sustainability of the environment to Native American philosophy. The pragmatics are also involved in meta-ethics and have created a compelling argument for a new model of ethics. Their message is that the foundation of morality isn't a set of principles but rather a pragmatically-intuitive way of establishing rules.
