Lithium disilicate (LD) is a popular dental ceramic and has been a focus of dental research. Nevertheless, a quantified literature analysis focusing on the research of lithium disilicate is lacking.

The purpose of this bibliometric analysis was to review the progress of research into lithium disilicate in dentistry, including the identification of contributing researchers, organizations, countries or regions, journals, and the analysis of high-impact keywords and research trending.

The search was carried out within the topic field of the Web of Science (WoS) database, collecting publications related to LD from between 1996 and 2019. Metadata including the titles, abstracts, keywords, authors, affiliations, countries or regions, and references were extracted. Bibliometric indicators in terms of documents, authors, journals, and keywords were analyzed.

Between 1996 and 2019, the dental research on LD trended upward. Scholars in the United States, Germany, Switzerland, and Brazil actively participated ing authors, institutions, and countries or regions. Research hotspots include types of restorative material, types of prostheses, and properties or techniques of materials.Nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) is a conserved translation-coupled quality control mechanism in all eukaryotes that regulates the expression of a significant fraction of both the aberrant and normal transcriptomes. In vertebrates, NMD has become an essential process owing to expansion of the diversity of NMD-regulated transcripts, particularly during various developmental processes. Surprisingly, however, some core NMD factors that are essential for NMD in simpler organisms appear to be dispensable for vertebrate NMD. At the same time, numerous NMD enhancers and suppressors have been identified in multicellular organisms including vertebrates. Collectively, the available data suggest that vertebrate NMD is a complex, branched pathway wherein individual branches regulate specific mRNA subsets to fulfill distinct physiological functions. Many bacterial species generate phenotypically heterogeneous subpopulations as a strategy for ensuring the survival of the population as a whole - an environmental stress that eradicates one subpopulation may leave other phenotypic groups unharmed, allowing the lineage to continue. Phase variation, a process that functions as an ON/OFF switch for gene expression, is one way that bacteria achieve phenotypic heterogeneity. Phase variation occurs stochastically and reversibly, and in the presence of a selective pressure the advantageous phenotype(s) predominates in the population. Phase variation can occur through multiple genetic and epigenetic mechanisms. This review focuses on conservative site-specific recombination that generates reversible DNA inversions as a genetic mechanism mediating phase variation. #link# Recent studies have sparked a renewed interest in phase variation mediated through DNA inversion, revealing a high level of complexity beyond simple ON/OFF switching, including unusual modes of gene regulation, and highlighting an underappreciation of the use of these mechanisms by bacteria.
To review contrast medium administration protocols used for cardiothoracic applications of time-resolved, contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) sequences.

A systematic search of the literature (Medline/EMBASE) was performed to identify articles utilising time-resolved MRA sequences, focusing on type of sequence, adopted technical parameters, contrast agent (CA) issues, and acquisition workflow. Study design, year of publication, population, magnetic field strength, type, dose, and injection parameters of CA, as well as technical parameters of time-resolved MRA sequences were extracted.

Of 117 retrieved articles, 16 matched the inclusion criteria. The study design was prospective in 9/16 (56%) articles, and study population ranged from 5 to 185 patients, for a total of 506 patients who underwent cardiothoracic time-resolved MRA. Magnetic field strength was 1.5 T in 13/16 (81%), and 3 T in 3/16 (19%) articles. The administered CA was gadobutrol (Gadovist) in 6/16 (37%) articles, gadopentecations are warranted to provide a common standardised acquisition protocol.
To describe and test a new method that increases the conspicuity of a Hill-Sachs lesion on internal rotation (IR) radiographs.

This study had institutional review board approval. A retrospective search for patients with a prior shoulder dislocation and a Hill-Sachs lesion documented on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed over a 10-year period identifying 256 test patients. In Part 1, the IR radiographs from test cases were randomised with controls, and three readers scored them independently for the defect. The readers were then taught the Broken Circle (BC) method and re-scored the radiographs. In Ezatiostat order , 15 cases of Hill-Sachs lesions that were missed by all readers in Part 1 were randomised with controls, and were shown to 25 radiology residents before (pre-test) and after (post-test) learning the BC method. A paired t-test was used to compare the differences in sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV).

In Part 1, the sensitivity increased 19.7% (54.1%-73.8%; p<0.05) and NPV increased 10.8% (62.5%-73.3%; p<0.01). In Part 2, post-test sensitivity for residents increased 16.3% (55.2%-71.5%; p<0.0001), accuracy increased 13.4% (64%-77.4%; p<0.0001), and NPV increased 13.3% (40.8%-54.1%; p<0.0001) independent of the level of training. The change in accuracy was also statistically significant for every individual class.

The BC method was an effective technique that facilitated detection of a Hill-Sachs lesion at all levels of training, and was useful as a teaching tool.

To evaluate the frequency of acute pulmonary embolism, the use of clinical probability scores, and the appropriateness of the management of patients for whom computed tomography angiography (CTA) was requested from the emergency department for suspected acute pulmonary embolism.

This was a retrospective observational study of CTA studies requested from the emergency department to rule out acute pulmonary embolism. We analyzed clinical variables and the explicit use of clinical probability scores. We determined the appropriateness of management according to the Wells Score and Geneva Score and the simplified versions of these two scores, calculated retrospectively.

We included 534 patients (52.8% women; mean age, 73 years). The frequency of acute pulmonary embolism was 23.0% and the Wells Score was explicitly used in 15.2%. The appropriateness of the management varied depending on the clinical probability score used to assess it (54.5%-75.8%) and on whether the standard D-dimer or age-adjusted D-dimer was used.
