What is your IGN? :
JJCunningCreeper
How old are you? :
16
Have you read through the moderator manual? Do you understand it? Any Questions?
I have, and it seems all good by the looks of it :D
What is your goal team? Why is this?
My goal team is Quality Assurance for several reasons. I've played on Mineplex with a total in-game time of 65.2 days and started in December of 2014. Since then, I've experienced a lot of changes with the games and options Mineplex has to offer to its players, and I would like to be a part of that. I also believe I have a pretty solid understanding of game balancing.
Do you have any background knowledge on the team? What it does etc?
Quality Assurance works on ensuring that gameplay aspects of Mineplex run smoothly: Gameplay/Kit balancing, introducing new features, identifying issues and bugs, identifying any issues potential new maps/game concepts could have, input new suggestions, etc.
What are your strengths?
Erm... There's no context given in this question, so I'm just going to assume that you're asking for my general positive qualities. I do my best to be modest and humble... I don't particularly like boasting, and when I do it, it doesn't feel right. ;P People have mentioned that I am trustworthy and friendly, and I'm flattered by that. If someone requires help and I'm able to assist them, I'll do what I can to help them out, as long as I'm not pre-occupied with something. I am goal-oriented (basically, it doesn't feel right if I don't set some goal for myself). If I'm motivated to do something, I can get really persistent... I guess that can be classified as both a strength and weakness.
What are your weaknesses?
I can overthink and get anxious a lot... Probably my biggest issue. Whenever I come across a situation where I think I may've possibly offended or disappointed someone, it can stick in my mind for heaven knows how long, even when I've been told that no dramatic consequences would arise and that everything would be all fine. It can get really distracting and personally, it can get harmful in many ways. The smallest issues or words can get to me. It's something I'm trying to resolve - Stop overthinking.
Stress/Time management is also something that I struggle with, and I'm attempting to get that under control - It's absolutely vital and crucial that I do so.
What do you aim to achieve on Mineplex?
I never planned on achieving anything too big or earth-shattering on Mineplex, as personally, I find it way too ambitious. The Mineplex staff team is well-structured and hard-working, and the team has done a fantastic job. If I'm able to "tidy up the rough edges" or influence any small positive changes to the server and the community, I'd be more than happy. It's an honour to be able to be part of the Staff Team (to be able to make it to the Moderator stage) and to be able to work alongside its various members. I do plan to interact with as many people in the team as I can (I enjoy meeting and talking to new people)
I guess at the moment, my next step up would be to get involved in a Senior Mod Team (I've been moved to the QA Testing phase, which is still an absolute shock to me... to be accepted to this stage is an honour; I'm thankful regardless of the outcome). In terms of a more gradual effect I would like to have on the community is to show them that Mineplex Staff is chill. Players have mentioned how Mineplex Staff can seem really intimidating, and someone recently commented in-game "Oh a mod actually talked for once" in a game after I responded to them. I basically want to show that Mineplex staff can be fun and laid-back, while keeping professionalism and taking necessary actions simultaneously.
What are your interests outside of Minecraft? (Ideas : Ideal job etc)
At the moment, my routine mainly consists of school and Minecraft (Mineplex mainly). I play Basketball at school and Friday evenings (To be more precise, if you want to note for potential future reference: from 6pm-7pm AEST or GMT+11). I do have an interest in animating (Autodesk Maya), but I simply just do not have the luxury of time to do so. Basically, I hardly have time to familiarise myself with the software, but it's still a desire/interest I have.
Have you ever been a moderator elsewhere? If so, for how long?
Well, my moderation history hasn't exactly been focused on one particular area. Over my 5 years of Minecraft, I've established countless servers where I mess around with friends, and they require constant moderation. When it comes to organising events between friends, tournaments, competition and such, I would get dragged in to organise it alongside them and assist them in moderating.
Rate your confidence with the rules and punishment system on a scale of 1-10!
7.5 ish? ;P
One of the biggest issues I have is identifying and telling General Rudeness and Abusive Behaviour apart. I can handle most of these; however, in some scenarios, I do have trouble.
Also, I can get really sceptical in terms of identifying Killaura/Forcefield. Personally, I am really careful with punishing these as I have been falsely punished for this offense in the past, so I understand how frustrating it can get to be on innocent the receiving end. I look out for headsnaps and occurences when a player hits multiple targets at once, but that's about all I have to prove it. Sometimes, a player can have incredible range, but they don't headsnap or hit multiple targets at once, etc. and these scenarios are the ones I have trouble dealing with.
There are many scenarios and situations that will occur in the future that I will have trouble dealing with, no doubt. I hope I'll be able to handle them appropriately.
Any questions about the punishment system?
I do have one referring to Speed Hacks. As a Trainee, this movement hack was considered a Severity 3 offense, but in the Punishment GUI, it is stated as a Severity 2 offense. I've just been punishing for Severity 2 in these scenarios but I would just like clarification :D
Are you more forum active, or in game active?
In-game for sure. Being active on the forums is something I have trouble with. I try to assist in the 'Help' section whenever there is a question I could potentially answer, but most of the time, they have either been answered or I simply do not know how to answer them. I am also sceptical in terms of posting on the forums as I'm afraid to voice my opinions sometimes - basically, I'm scared that I may sound unprofessional, I might make Mineplex look bad or my suggestion may not be the best...
How is your experience so far as a moderator? Is everything running smoothly?
I've been Moderator for about like, 3-4 days now. Everything's been going pretty well, but the first/second day was a bit rough. Encountered a player who was being rude directly at me during an SG game. I requested them to be nice and told them that Mineplex supports a positive community to which they responded "Salt. Salt. More salt. That's basically the Mineplex community."
I warned them for General Rudeness and then realised that they already has a past offense for General Rudeness within a month's period, so I muted them... They had 11 past offenses so the mute was extended to 14 days. They tagged me in a post on their wall stating something like "Thanks for being a "good" mod JJCunningCreeper" and this did get to me a bit. I asked Dean if calling the community salty was considered GR, to which he responded that it wasn't, but I decided to leave the punishment there due to rudeness to staff members. Dean provided me with advice, telling me that it would be the best move to avoid contact with players of that sort next time. Anyway, this scenario sorta bugged me for most of the afternoon, but it's merely something I'll have to learn to deal with.
That's basically the only controversial mess I've run into as a Moderator by far =)
Do you have any suggestions to help improve Mineplex?
I actually have quite a few suggestions for Mineplex, but I don't want to flood this Q&A more than I have already. Most of my suggestions are based towards some qualitative features Mineplex could potentially have for their players (eg. Defaults for cosmetics/kits, Favourite Friends List, etc.?) and some in-game features/balancing, and this is basically what is influencing me to join Quality Assurance.
In terms of the Staff team, I think that it functions very well and is well-structured. Basically overall, I think Mineplex is in a good position.
Is there anything I should know about you as your mentor?
My IGN is JJCunningCreeper, but I go by the name of jacky, if you prefer to call me that instead. I think I've mentioned an appropriate amount about me in this, so yer XD
In addition, I'm in Year 11 at my school, and my workload is only going to get higher from here. The expectations my school, peers, and others set me can be incredibly high, and I find it really stressful. I'm currently already going through some issues in terms of balancing school workload with Mineplex and my other desires... Last term at my school was not the best time for me - in fact, probably the WORST school term I've had by far... I was just going through an incredibly stressful and hard time, things didn't seem to go to well - Probably have like, minor anxiety or something.
I am doing my best to balance this all out and recover. I think it's appropriate to let you know. =)
