Early compromised endothelial function challenges the ability of individuals with type 1 diabetes to perform normal physical exercise. The exact mechanisms underlying this vascular limitation remain unknown, but may involve either formation or metabolism of nitric oxide (NO), a major vasodilator, whose activity is known to be compromised by oxidative stress.
Muscle microvascular reactivity (near-infrared spectroscopy) to an incremental exhaustive bout of exercise was assessed in 22 adults with uncomplicated type 1 diabetes (HbA
64.5 ± 15.7mmol/mol; 8.0 ± 1.4%) and in 21 healthy individuals (18-40years of age). NO-related substrates/metabolites were also measured in the blood along with other vasoactive compounds and oxidative stress markers; measurements were taken at rest, at peak exercise and after 15min of recovery. clinicaltrials.gov NCT02051504.Research supports that parents of children with ASD experience higher rates of marital conflict compared to parents of neurotypically developing (NT) children; however, no known research examining reactions to interparental conflict in children with ASD exists. This study compared emotional, behavioral, and physiological responses to interparental conflict in ASD (n = 21) and NT children (n = 29). Children were presented with videotaped interactions (constructive vs. destructive conflict) of actors and their reactions were measured. Children with ASD reported higher levels of negative emotions following constructive conflict compared to NT children. Parents of children with ASD rated their child's emotional and behavioral responses to interparental conflict more negatively than parents of NT children. Comparable levels of physiological reactivity were found across both groups.A Gram-staining-negative, halophilic, aerobic, oval-shaped or vibrio-shaped, motile by a polar flagellum strain, designated YL5-2T, was isolated from natural saline-alkaline wetland soil of Binhai new district, Tianjin, China. Strain YL5-2T grew optimally at 35 °C, pH 7.5-8.0, and in the presence of 10-25% (w/v) NaCl on MA medium. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that the isolate belonged to the genus Halovibrio and exhibited high sequence similarity of 97.7% to Halovibrio variabilis DSM 3050T. The major polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol (DPG), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), phosphatidylglycerol (PG), phosphatidylcholine (PC), and lipid (L). The DNA G+C content of the strain was 62.1 mol%. The average nucleotide identity (ANI) based on whole genome sequences of strain YL5-2T and Halovibrio variabilis DSM 3050T was 93.85%, and the dDDH value between these two strains was determined to be 52.0%. Phenotypic, chemotaxonomic, phylogenetic, and genomic analyses suggested that strain YL5-2T represent a novel species of the genus Halovibrio, for which the name Halovibrio salipaludis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is YL5-2T (=KCTC 52852T=ACCC 19971T).
Racial disparities persist with respect to breastfeeding. The use of health e-technology is increasing, with promise for a role in improving breastfeeding outcomes.
We undertook a scoping review of both individual breastfeeding apps and the literature on breastfeeding apps to map the available evidence on app-based breastfeeding support for African-American mothers.
A systematic search of online databases identified 241 English language papers published on or before June 2020 that included e-technology in support of breastfeeding. We included those that (1) described individual human subjects research studies utilizing any research design, (2) described app-based breastfeeding support, and (3) could be pertinent for African-American mothers, and assessed for inclusion and relevance for this population. We also searched app stores for breastfeeding apps, and evaluated features with a rubric. Our aim was to identify if gaps exist relative to breastfeeding support for African-Americans.
Of the 15 publications meeting inclusion criteria, 9 focused on app development, 4 examined user experience, and 3 examined breastfeeding outcomes with use of an app (one study overlapped categories).
