Early recovery, low complication rate, minimal post-operative pain was encountered in treatment of symptomatic hemorrhoids by stapled hemorrhoidopexy.Calcarine sulcus, one of the major sulcus of occipital lobe of cerebral hemisphere which is intimately related with visual function. The detailed anatomy of this lobe is essential for the surgeons and radiologists for clinical investigation & surgery. The aim of the present study was to identify the variation of this sulcus of the occipital lobe. This study was done to establish a normal standard in length of calcarine sulcus in different age & sex groups of Bangladeshi people. Inter-hemispheric age and gender differences of this sulcus was done by cross sectional descriptive study which was performed into four categories Group A (20 to 29 years), Group B (30 to 39 years), Group C (40 to 49 years) and Group D (50 years & above). The specimens were collected from morgue in the department of Forensic Medicine, Mymensingh Medical College, Mymensingh, Bangladesh by purposive sampling technique. The length of calcarine sulcus was measured by using thread. The mean length of calcarine sulcus was lowest to highest values 7.07±0.616cm to 7.86±0.792cm in male and 6.53±0.808cm to 7.62±0.806cm in female. The mean difference of the length of right calcarine sulcus between group A & D was statistically significant at p less then 0.05, but not significant in any other age & sex groups for both left and right hemisphere. In present study, the length of the calcarine sulcus showed gradual decreasing values with advancing age. For proper planning of neurosurgical procedures and radiological representation of visual functional areas, detailed knowledge on the variation of this sulcus is essential. Proper knowledge of calcarine sulcus can permit safer access to deep structures and reduce operative complications. The present study will also help to increase the information pool on the length of the calcarine sulcus of Bangladeshi people which will minimize the dependency on foreign standards.Distal tibial fractures are difficult to manage as the bone is subcutaneous with depleted muscular cover; the consequent decreased vascularity leads to complications. Minimal invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) is a very good option for managing this type of fractures. This study was carried out to evaluate the outcome of patients treated with distal tibial locking plate by MIPO technique. Twenty patients with distal tibia fractures treated with distal tibial anatomical locking plate were prospectively studied from July 2013 to December 2016. LJH685 The result was excellent in 18(90%) of patients i.e. 18 patients had an AOFAS score of 90 or greater out of a possible 100 points. The mean score was 94.28; the mean time for radiological union was 20.1 weeks with a range of 16 to 30 weeks. We encountered superficial infection in 02 (10%) of our patients which were managed with dressings and appropriate antibiotics. Two patients had union with valgus angulation of less than 5°. No malunion was detected. One patient had ankle stiffness requiring extensive physiotherapy to regain range of movement. Plate removal was done in 4 cases. MIPO technique is a good fixation method for fractures distal third of tibia, preserving blood supply & fracture hematoma.Placenta is the mirror of maternal and fetal status; it reflects the changes due to complications in pregnancy of mother. The growth and survival of the fetus in utero is directly related to formation, development and maturation of the placenta. Placental index was correlated to poor pregnancy outcomes. Placental index can help to identify fetal growth restriction which is result of placental insufficiency and is characterized by insufficient trasnsplacental transport of nutrients and oxygen. This cross sectional descriptive study would provide information about the ratio of placental index in different gestational age group in Bangladeshi women. To achieve this aim the study was performed on 60 human placenta and corresponding fetuses and gestational age (in weeks) categorized as Group A (28-32), Group B (33-37), Group C (38-40). These sample and information were collected from normal pregnancy in Gynecology and Obstetrics Department of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital from July 2009 to June 2010. After preservation in 10% formal saline, study was done in Department of Anatomy in Mymensingh Medical College. In this study, the mean±SD placental index was in Group A (0.187±0.113), Group B (0.153±0.025) and Group C (0.166±0.025) and also observed that mean placental index decreased with age up to certain level then increase in Group C. The mean placental index was maximum in Group A (0.187±0.113) and was minimum in Group B (0.153±0.025). The mean difference of placental index between Groups A&B, A&C and B&C was statistically not significant. Observed findings of this study were compared with those of Western and Bangladeshi researches.Acute cholecystitis (AC) is a common surgical condition requiring emergency hospitalization. Diabetic patient with gall stones disease is more prone to develop acute cholecystitis and its complications e.g. mucocele, empyema, gangrene and perforation. Early laparoscopic cholecystectomy (ELC) has proved to be an effective and safe day case surgical procedure for AC and their complications. This cross sectional study of diabetic patients admitted with acute cholecystitis, at the Department of Surgery of Bangladesh Institute of Researcher of Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorder (BIRDEM) General Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh from March 2016 to January 2017. A total number of 50 patients of known diabetes of acute cholecystitis were recruited irrespective of their age and sex and by excluding pregnant woman, obstructed jaundice and severe cardiopulmonary disease.
