To investigate the litter consumption of the African nightcrawler earthworm Eudrilus eugeniae under different tropical conditions, we used DNA barcoding to identify specimens of E. eugeniae collected from sites across the Adamawa region in Cameroon, and studied the influence of habitat suitability (soil properties), soil moisture, litter type, and population density on litter consumption. A total of four litter consumption experiments were carried out using soils collected from refuse disposal sites, agricultural lands, and savannahs dominated by the Mexican sunflower Tithonia diversifolia. The results revealed that litter consumption significantly increased in the refuse disposal and agricultural soils as opposed to the Mexican sunflower (T. diversifolia) soil, a cow dung enriched substrate, and a sterile soil horizon from the savannah (P 0.05). We observed a general positive density-dependent consumption with litter mass loss increasing with increasing density. Our results suggest that E. eugeniae has a strong direct effect on the decomposition of plant materials than expected from previous estimations, and that litter consumption rates are determined by several habitat components and population density.Over the past 60 years, haematologists and scientists from the United Kingdom, notably John Goldman and Tessa Holyoake, have punched above their weight in changing chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) from an incurable and invariably fatal disease for all, to a chronic condition where over 90% have normal life expectancy. As a result, it is now difficult to power a worthwhile phase 3 study for newly diagnosed patients. Nevertheless, important clinical questions remain.Several studies to date have proposed different types of interpreters for measuring the degree of pathogenicity of variants. However, in predicting the disease type and disease-gene associations, scholars face two essential challenges, namely the vast number of existing variants and the existence of variants which are recognized as variant of uncertain significance (VUS). To tackle these challenges, we propose algorithms to assign a significance to each gene rather than each variant, describing its degree of pathogenicity. Since the interpreters identified most of the variants as VUS, most of the gene scores were identified as uncertain significance. To predict the uncertain significance scores, we design two matrix factorization-based models the common latent space model uses genomics variant data as well as heterogeneous clinical data, while the single-matrix factorization model can be used when heterogeneous clinical data are unavailable. We have managed to show that the models successfully predict the uncertain significance scores with low error and high accuracy. Moreover, to evaluate the effectiveness of our novel input features, we train five different multi-label classifiers including a feedforward neural network with the same feature set and show they all achieve high accuracy as the main impact of our approach comes from the features. Herein, an artificial Z-scheme bipyridine ruthenium (Ru(bpy)32+) sensitizing narrow-gap bismuth oxy-iodide (BiOI) microspheres was constructed by a simple electrostatic interaction strategy for the first time. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and photoluminescence (PL) analysis showed that this design of such Z-scheme structure was helpful to enhance the interfacial charge transfer and improve the photoelectric conversion efficiency. In addition, due to the sensitization of Ru(bpy)32+, the band gap was narrowed from 1.8 eV of BiOI microspheres to 1.3 eV of BiOI/Ru(bpy)32+ microspheres, leading to improve the utilization of visible light. So that, the photocurrent of the resulted BiOI/Ru(bpy)32+ was 13.0 times that of pure BiOI microspheres. In view of the outstanding photoelectrochemical (PEC) performance of BiOI/Ru(bpy)32+ and the high specificity of the aptamer, the PEC aptasensor for ampicillin (AMP) merits the excellent detection performance including a broad linear ranging from 1 × 10-7 nM to 100 nM as well as a low detection limit of 3.3 × 10-8 nM (S/N = 3). This work not only provides a novel way to construct and design highly efficient photoactive materials for PEC detection, but also broadens the application of Z-scheme in the field of sensing. This study examined the effect of matching musical emotion and the mood of the listener on working memory and free recall in normal aging. Memory measures were taken at baseline in healthy young and older participants, and, following a happy or sad mood induction, again after exposure to both mood-matching and -mismatching music in a counterbalanced repeated measures design. Compared to baseline, [i] recall was greater following mood-matching than mood-mismatching music in both groups, and was reduced following mood-mismatching music in older adults, [ii] working memory was greater in the mood-matching condition, but did not differ from baseline in the mismatching condition. The results have significant implications for the increasingly popular forms of intervention involving music used with older populations experiencing cognitive decline.Lung cancer is increasing in incidence particularly among women, associated with a global change in smoking habits. Steroid hormones, particularly oestrogen exert an influence on tumour progression in tissues where their target receptor is expressed. Oestrogen receptor, particularly ERβ is highly expressed in the lung and becomes more highly expressed in lung carcinogenesis. Genes involved in the process of lung carcinoma progression and signalling cascades linked to invasion and angiogenesis are modulated by oestrogen receptors. click here This review intends to collate recently published evidence identifying a role for oestrogen in the initiation and progression of lung carcinoma and how these two processes are differentially affected by circulating oestrogens both in women and in men. Circulating oestrogens may be a significant risk factor in women's susceptibility to lung carcinoma and also provide an additional approach for more targeted therapy.
