Overall, the prevalence of burnout and severe burnout were 69.1 and 22.0%, respectively. On multivariable analysis, factors independently associated with burnout were working in a training and research hospital (OR = 3.34; P < 0.001) or state hospital (OR = 2.77; P = 0.001), working ≥60 h per week (OR = 1.57; P = 0.046), and less frequent participation in social activities (OR = 3.65; P < 0.001).

Burnout is an important problem among general surgeons with impacts and consequences for professionals, patients, and society. Considering that burnout is a preventable condition, systematic efforts to identify at-risk populations and to develop strategies to address burnout in surgeons are needed.

Weight loss therapy is becoming more and more important, and two classes of molecules, namely amylin receptor and GLP-1 receptor agonists, have shown promise in this regard. Interestingly, these molecules have several overlapping pharmacological effects, such as suppression of gastric emptying, reduction of glucagon secretion and weight loss in common; however, they also have distinct effects on prandial insulin secretion. Hence, a combination of these two mechanisms is of significant interest.

In this study, we investigated the add-on potential of the dual amylin and calcitonin receptor agonist (DACRA) KBP-089 in combination with the GLP-1 receptor agonist liraglutide as obesity treatment in high-fat diet (HFD) fed rats.

Increasing doses of KBP-089 and liraglutide alone and in combination were studied with respect to their effects on body weight, food intake and glucose metabolism during a 9-week intervention study conducted in HFD rats. Further, the gastric emptying rate during an oral glucose tolerance was assessed. Treatment with KBP-089 and liraglutide dose-dependently lowered body weight 15% (at 2.5 μg/kg/day) and 7% (at 400 μg/kg/day) in HFD rats, respectively, while the combination resulted in a 21% body weight reduction, which was mirrored by reduction in fat depot sizes. Gastric emptying and glucose metabolism were improved, primarily by KBP-089, although liraglutide led to a reduction in fasting plasma glucagon.

DACRAs complement GLP-1 on food intake, body weight, and glucose tolerance indicating the potential for an add-on therapy.

The common endocrine disorder primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) can be cured by surgery. Preoperative localization of parathyroid adenoma (PTA) by imaging is a prerequisite for outpatient minimally invasive parathyroidectomy (MIP). Compared to inpatient bilateral cervical exploration (BCE) which is performed if imaging is inconclusive, MIP is superior in terms of cure and complication rates and less costly. The imaging procedure F18-choline (FCH) PET/CT outperforms Tc99m-sestaMIBI (MIBI) SPECT/CT for PTA localization, but it is much costlier. The aim of this study is to identify the most efficient first-line imaging modality for optimal patient care in PHPT without added cost to society.

We will conduct a multicenter open diagnostic intervention randomized phase III trial comparing two diagnostic strategies in patients with PHPT upfront FCH PET/CT versus MIBI SPECT/CT. The primary endpoint is the proportion of patients in whom the first-line imaging method results in successful MIP and cure. Follow-up inSPECT/CT. BCE could be avoided in 75% of patients and surgical complication rates were low. We therefore hypothesize that upfront FCH PET/CT would improve patient care in PHPT and that the reduction in clinical costs would offset the increase in imaging costs.

The growth of the internet has increased its use to obtain health information including oral health information (OHI). This study assessed Indonesian adolescents' use of different internet platforms to obtain OHI and factors associated with this use.

A cross-sectional study surveyed middle school students in five regions in Jakarta in 2019. Participants completed a questionnaire that assessed demographics, oral health practices (toothbrushing and dental visits), the presence of dental pain, using internet platform to obtain OHI and type of information searched for. Multinomial logistic regression was used to assess the association between using the internet for OHI (Google, Social Media (SM), both or none) and the independent factors demographics, oral health practice, dental pain and whether participants search for causes, symptoms, prevention or treatment of oral diseases (ODs).

Most of the 521 participants were female (55.7%) with mean age = 13.4years. Almost all of them (93.7%) searched the internet for OHI through Google (40.7%) or Google with SM (36.1%). Searching for OHI over SM was significantly associated with toothbrushing (OR = 4.12, 95% CI = 1.43, 11.89) and less dental visits (OR = 0.16, 95% CI = 0.05, 0.60). Searching Google for OHI was significantly associated with looking for information about causes (OR = 3.69, 95% CI = 1.33, 10.26) and treatment (OR = 6.17, 95% CI = 2.23, 17.03) of ODs.

Most adolescents used Google to seek OHI. Oral health practices and types of OHI searched for differed by internet platform. Dental health professionals should consider using internet-based interventions to promote oral health to this age group.
