Bedside Cots - The Safe Alternative to Co-Sleeping
A bedside crib is an cot with a bassinet style that is attached to the bed's side to allow safe co-sleeping. It lets you view your baby and reach them for their night feedings without disturbing them. It's also great for those who have reflux.
NHS guidelines recommend that your baby sleeps in a separate cot, crib or Moses basket for the first six months. A bedside crib can be a more economical and practical alternative to a full size crib.
Safety
Cots are secure and safe areas for babies to rest. They are protected by high sides to keep babies from falling. They also have a solid head and footboard, with a design cut out to ensure that babies do not get caught in. Soft toys, cot bumpers, and wedges can pose a choking hazard.
The Lullaby Trust recommends that a baby should sleep in the same room as their parents for the first six months of their life but not in their bed due to the possibility of the danger of suffocation. Many parents struggle to resist the urge to share their bed with a baby sleeping so a crib for bedside is a great choice for safe and peaceful co-sleeping. These cribs are specially designed to attach to the side of a parent's bed so you can easily reach your child without stepping out of the bed, and they conform to all safety requirements.
The SnuzPod4 cot has a side you can lower overnight. This crib comes with a dual-view mesh window and a zip down wall which allows it to be used as a standalone unit to get a good night's sleep. It also meets the new standards for safety of cots and has a rocking function that soothes babies to sleep.
Make sure the crib has been cleaned thoroughly and is the right size for your child. It should be at least 50cm deep to prevent your child from leaving the cot as they grow. Also, be sure to remove stickers and transfers from the interior of the cot, as they can fall off and present a choking hazard.
The cot shouldn't be placed too close to a radiator or sunny window, as babies are at heightened risk of SIDS due to overheating. It should also be free of blind cords as babies are known to get caught and strangled in them. Duvets, pillows and other beddings can choke babies, so the cot should be free of them.
It is also recommended to read a guide on cot safety before you purchase a cot for your baby. The NHS and Lullaby Trust provide a wealth of information and advice on safe baby sleeping. You can also take part in an NCT New Baby Course to learn more about safe sleep.
Design
Bedside cribs are a great method to co-sleep safely with your baby. They come in many different designs. Some bassinets are attached to your bed and allow you to lift your child up to feed them at night or help soothe them to sleep, without having to get out of the bed. Others are portable, like the Slumber Carbon 3-in-1, which transforms into an cot for travel, a playpen and co-sleeper for use at home or on the go.
large bedside cot advises that your baby should sleep on their back, regardless of the sleeping arrangement. This will help to reduce the risk for SIDS. When choosing travel bedside crib for your crib be sure that it is firm and flat, and that it is able to fit snugly in the crib without gaps. You should also use a breathable cover to protect your mattress from spills and accidents.
Bedside cribs are bassinets which attach on the side of your mattress. Stacey Solomon, Binky Felstead, and many other famous faces are fans of them. They have a removable or lowered side so you can touch your baby's face to feed or soothe them during the night. They are also ideal for parents recovering from C-sections.
Portability
A crib for your bed is a great way to keep your baby close, particularly in the first few months of life when nappy changes and nighttime feeds changes are routine. It lets you take care of your baby's needs without having to leave your bed. It also helps your child develop an intimate relationship with you. It also helps allow you to sleep more soundly.
Most bedside cots can be moved around the room. They are perfect for smaller areas. They can be used as a crib that's attached to your bed, or as an independent crib. Some are even compact enough to fit in your suitcase if you're travelling with your baby.
Some models are designed with a collapsible front that makes it simple to carry your baby towards you for a night-time feeding or to soothe them to sleep. This is a great option for breastfeeding mothers and can lower the risk suffocation. Most cribs that are bedside are suitable for infants from six months old. However, some cribs are suitable for older babies.
The Tutti Bambini CoZee bedside crib is a fantastic option for parents who are new as it's versatile, safe and comes with a travel bag. It features a stay-in-place connector system that can be attached to your bed and offers six height settings to suit your needs. It also features a drop-side for easy access and an incline option, which is ideal for infants with reflux or coughs.
It was simple to assemble and could be folded in a matter of seconds. This made it a perfect choice for travel. They also said that it was durable and, while they did point out that it didn't rock, or offer extra features such as lullabies, they did say that it made an excellent travel cot.
Chicco Next2me Magic was another bedside cot on our shortlist that parents loved. Its unique design allows you to sleep your child close to you. This is great for strengthening the bond between you and your baby. It also has a convenient storage space, which can be used for nappies as well as baby wipes and clothing which means you don't need to worry about leaving them unattended. However, our parents who tested it did mention that it was a bit heavy when packed away and that they had difficulty with it up and down the steps and down the stairs, which is something to be aware of for those who live in a house with many stairs.
Cost
Bedside cribs can be a secure alternative to cosleeping. They can help your child gain independence by separating his or her sleeping environment from that of you. This is especially beneficial in the early months, when your baby may require frequent nappy or night changes. It's also a great solution for parents who are having difficulty reaching down to pick their child up.
Most bedside cots can be easily attached to your mattress and have a comfortable baby mattress. You can also add bedding, like sheets that are fitted and soft, to keep your baby safe and comfortable at night. A soft, breathable cover can help to keep moisture away from the mattress, which can reduce the chance of suffering from SIDS and allergic.
The cost of a bedside crib can vary, but most are smaller than a standard cot. These cribs are also an ideal gift for newly-wed parents. The CoZee from Kinderkraft is a fantastic example, providing excellent value for price. It can be used as an end-of-bed crib, standalone bed, and travel cot, and it comes with a breathable mattress and a stand. A fitted sheet can be added for added comfort and to keep stains out.
SnuzPod, a reputable brand, has a wide range of colors and fabrics that will complement your baby's nursery or bedroom. They also have a padded base that provides the necessary cushioning and support to your baby. A lot of cribs can be raised or lowered to suit the bed's height, and some even have a slight incline for reflux to aid your baby in sleeping better.
You might be tempted purchase a second-hand crib but it's essential that you use a new mattress. Old or used mattresses can increase the risk of SIDS in your baby and could not be as supportive. It's also important to ensure that the mattress fits correctly Some cribs are made to fit specific brands of mattresses.
You can also buy an cot-bed that can grow with your child. They can be more expensive but they're a great investment for your child's safety as well as health. These are also a good option if you're planning to have more than one child.
