* zero in on the implications of your own ideas
* try not to write list-like in essay
* dig into your observations and trust yourself more
* try to have a natural progression throughout the essay.

* mla-ish, but can include annotations and a bibliography
* size 12, times new roman, double spaced, 1 inch margins
* focus more on making a thoughtful/provocative title for this essay - or don't title at all(not recommended)
* ratio should be more of your: experience, thought, characterization, and analysis and less of research(just needed for structure)
* ask the most interesting question you can think of and take risks(swing for the fences!)
* don't try to think of your opinion/shape your opinions to be "appropriate" or more aligned to the general consensus. lean into your reactions to each work!!
* be inventive - dont be so stiff!! >:( only apply some shaping to make your essay understandable. this should be more of a stream of consciousness
* don't reference things you don't know or can fully digest.(dont go out and research something new, only include references from sources/things you have seen or are well familiar with)
* ask YOURSELF questions and pay attention to your reactions(trust your reactions but also interrogate them. content will emerge when you do)
* think deeply about the media of the story
* DONT worry about the thesis until you've written the bulk or all of this essay(thesis: 2 or more assertions and a relationship you notice between these assertions)
* you can look at a book/well published book about the genre(but no articles/shortened writing)Buy bestselling books online
* process narrative MUST be in first person
* can have a fancy title(must be clear that its not part of the actual essay)
* for this part, you're doing 2 things at the same time: describing the work you did in order to write the essay(sites you visit, conversations you had, things you've looked at) and how you are responding to your own decisions while writing(if you started something and changed your mind, what you revised, the angles you tried to go for) - be honest.
* doesn't have to be represented in perfect prose - could be graphic, could be in other formats, as long as it's good enough
