As a special carrier of traditional Chinese culture, baijiu is rich in terms of types and ingredients. Its quality analysis and control are always important and complex issues that urgently need reliable evaluation methods. In this study, four different modified CdTe quantum dots (QDs) were used to characterize their sensing performance to various baijiu. A sensor array was then constructed through the complementary properties of differential fluorescence signals. To achieve an accurate and rapid evaluation of different baijiu types, a linear discriminant analysis (LDA) was introduced to extract and process spectral information. And the array was able to distinguish commercial baijiu samples with different aroma-types, brands, qualities and storage years with a recognition rate of 100%. In addition, according to the heat map, the organic acids in baijiu were shown to be the main components causing the fluorescence change through electron transfer (hydrogen bond) and resonance energy transfer among QDs and acids. Furthermore, using the partial least squares regression (PLSR) model, five representative organic acids were accurately quantified with a quantitative range of 10 μmol/L-80 μmol/L with a high selectivity. This QDs fluorescence sensing strategy provides an accurate, simple, and fast baijiu sensing method, which provides a potential use for on-line baijiu monitoring.Tamarillo (tree tomato) is a subtropical tree that produces edible fruits with health-beneficial properties, since it contains several components with potential therapeutic and chemoprotective activity. The present work reports the first complete vibrational study (Raman and infrared) of this edible fruit. This approach allowed us to determine where the most relevant nutraceutical compounds are located in the fruit, as well as their relative amounts. Particular vibrational signatures were obtained for each part of the fruit, reporting different components for the epicarp (outer and inner sections), the pulp and the seeds, especially regarding the content in phenolic compounds, unsaturated fatty acids/esters and polymeric chains from the cuticular wax. Valuable information, at the molecular level was gathered regarding the nutricional value of tamarillo's fruit, for its different fractions. This study examined whether palbociclib and cetuximab prolonged overall survival (OS) versus placebo and cetuximab.

In this double-blind, randomized, phase 2 trial (PALATINUS), patients with platinum-resistant, cetuximab-naïve, human papillomavirus-unrelated recurrent/metastatic head and neck squamous-cell carcinoma received cetuximab and either palbociclib (arm A) or placebo (arm B). The primary endpoint was OS; 120 patients were required to have ≥80% power to detect a hazard ratio (HR) of 0.6 (median OS of 10months in arm A and 6months in arm B) using a one-sided, log-rank test (P=0.10).

125 patients were randomized (arm A 65, arm B 60). Median follow-up was 15.9months (IQR, 11.3-22.7). Median OS was 9.7months in arm A and 7.8months in arm B (HR, 0.82; 95% CI, 0.54-1.25; P=0.18). Median progression-free survival was 3.9months in arm A and 4.6months in arm B (HR, 1.00; 95% CI, 0.67-1.5; P=0.50). The most common treatment-related adverse events in arm A were rash (39 patients, 60.9%) and neutropenia (26, 40.6%; three febrile) and in arm B was rash (32, 53.3%).

There was no significant difference in median OS with palbociclib and cetuximab versus placebo and cetuximab.

Pfizer Inc (NCT02499120).The current study explores the effectiveness of an iron slag nanopowder (ISNP), which prepared from local iron steel industry, against gamma/neutron shielding. The structural and physical characteristics were experimentally determined. The crystal structure, morphology and elemental composition of the ISNP were studied using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX). On the other hand, a comprehensive experimental and theoretical study on the γ-ray shielding effectiveness of the ISNP was performed. In which, the experimental results have been validated by comparison with theoretical data which obtained by using the WinXcom program. This paper uses the well-known mathematical relationships to derive many shielding and dosimetry parameters such as effective atomic number and, effective electron density, for photon interaction and photon energy absorption as well as the γ-ray kerma coefficient from the mass attenuation coefficient. The exposure and energy absorption buildup factors have been also calculated. Furthermore, the shielding effectiveness against thermal and fast neutrons has been tested in terms of total macroscopic cross-sections. The results have revealed that the produced ISNP, with crystallite size of 24.5 nm, exhibits good shielding characteristics. Finally, based on this preliminary study, we can have concluded that the iron slag nanoparticles can be suitably used as an effective and safe (lead - free) component for radiation shielding.Irradiation of 186W targets by 3He particles was carried out. For the first time the cross sections for the reactions of production of 183, 184, 186, 188Re, 183, 185Os, 187W were measured by the stack foil technique in the 3He energy range of 15-45 MeV. The results were compared to the data from the TENDL-2019 library. Using the experimental excitation functions, the thick target yields of medically relevant rhenium radioisotopes were calculated.
The objectives of the study were (i) to compare mineral values of calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, zinc and their ratios, in teeth from Croatian populations that lived in different historical periods, namely the Medieval period, the early 20th century, and the 21 st century; and (ii) to elucidate the influence of diet and lifestyle on tooth quality in these groups.

Determination of mineral content (Ca, Mg, P and Zn) in 294 teeth from three different periods of history (Medieval Period [G1], Second World War period [G2] and the contemporary period [G3]) using atomic absorption spectrometer and UV/VIS spectrometer methods.

Our results showed that the mineral content in teeth has changed over the centuries. Between analysed samples from all groups, there were significant differences in the elemental content as well as in the interrelationship of the elements. The largest differences were observed in the mean values of magnesium and zinc concentrations while smaller differences were observed for changes in calcium and phosphorus.
