Optical technology is a tool to diagnose and treat human diseases. Shallow penetration depth caused by the high optical scattering nature of biological tissues is a significant obstacle to utilizing light in the biomedical field. In this paper, light transmission enhancement in the rat brain induced by focused ultrasound (FUS) was observed and the cause of observed enhancement was analyzed. Both air bubbles and mechanical deformation generated by FUS were cited as the cause. The Monte Carlo simulation was performed to investigate effects on transmission by air bubbles and finite element method was also used to describe mechanical deformation induced by motions of acoustic particles. Selleckchem Procyanidin C1 As a result, it was found that the mechanical deformation was more suitable to describe the transmission change according to the FUS pulse observed in the experiment.
Human papilloma virus (HPV) infection is the most common sexually transmitted disease worldwide and the main cause of genital warts. Clear recommendations for the management of urethral warts, which are often hard to detect and difficult to treat, are still lacking.
To summarize all available data describing treatment modalities of urethral warts, compare their efficacy and side effects, and provide physicians a treatment strategy outline.
Till June 2020, we conducted a systematic review of articles studying the different treatment modalities of urethral condylomas. A chi-square test was used to compare the recurrence rates between treatment modalities, the complete clearance rates at first follow-up and the rates of adverse events.
A total of 26 articles with 1730 patients were included in our review. 61 % of patients were deemed completely cured on the first follow-up while 21 % recurred. 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) mediated photodynamic therapy (PDT) was the most common treatment and yielded the lowest recurrence rate (7.5 %) followed by laser therapy (24 %) and topical therapy (31 %) (p < 0.01). ALA-PDT resulted in a higher rate of clearance on follow up (96 %) compared to laser therapy (69 %) and topical therapy (14 %) (p < 0.01). Adverse events were more frequent in the ALA-PDT group (69 %) compared to laser therapy (28 %) and topical treatment (30 %) (p < 0.01).
ALA-PDT appears to be the most effective treatment of urethral condylomas in term of clearance and recurrence rate, but with a higher risk of adverse events. Management should be tailored to the type of lesion found at presentation.

Our experience with chlorin e6 based photosensitizers (PS), including in combination with medical cancer treatment, demonstrated regression of tumor lesions of the trachea and bronchi in 94 % of patients with central NSCLC. It is possible to increase the efficiency of the treatment and achieve its personalization by using fluorescent bronchoscopes, which provide fluorescence guided PDT - photodynamic theranostics (PT). PT allows to clarify localization the area of treatment due to visualization of tumor foci which are invisible in white light, to carry out targeted irradiation and at the same time to monitor its effectiveness using the effects of bleaching/flare-up of PS. PT prospects are associated with the transition to the near-infrared (NIR) region, which makes possible to increase the depth of light penetration. The first experiments using the combined NIR/visible PT system showed the possibility of detecting tumor sites using the OS-BPT method (On-Site Bronchoscopic Photodynamic Theranostics), which consists in NIR visualization of tumor when indocyanine green (ICG) is injected directly during examination in a minimal dose. This allows the technology to be used for CLC screening in the future. Further progress of endobronchial PT will be determined by the development of clinically available devices and new NIR PSs with targeted properties, high singlet oxygen yield and fluorescence.
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is based on photochemical and photobiological reactions mediated by photosensitizers to achieve a killing effect on diseased cells. It is used in the treatment of malignant tumors, precancerous lesions and infections.
In order to provide theoretical data for further study of the mechanism of PDT for colorectal cancer, SW480 cells were treated with Ce6-PDT and effect of photodynamic therapy (Ce6-PDT) on cytoskeleton and E-cadherin protein were observed.
The survival of SW480 cells was detected by MTT assay. The morphological changes of SW480 cells after Ce6-PDT were observed by scanning electron microscope (ESM). The migration ability was determined by wound healing assay. The distribution of F-actin in the cytoplasm was observed with confocal laser scanning microscope. Western blot analysis was used to detect the expression of cytoskeleton proteins in SW480 cells after Ce6-PDT.
Compared with the control group, there was significant difference in cell viability of cells treatestruction of cytoskeleton might be one of the reasons for the inhibition of cell proliferation and migration by Ce6-PDT.When experiencing negative emotions, individuals often reach out for social support to help regulate their emotions. In times of an acute crisis, however, close friends might not be available, and physical closeness might be impossible. This functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) study investigated the effect of social proximity on the effectiveness of social support for regulating emotions and the underlying neural mechanisms. Participants regulated their emotions in response to negative images either alone (intrapersonal regulation), or with help of a picture and supporting sentence provided by the best friend, or by a stranger (interpersonal regulation). Regulation success was enhanced for the support of friends compared to regulating alone or with the support of strangers. This effect was accompanied by the interplay of large-scale brain networks involved in processing emotions, social cognition, and cognitive control. Interpersonal regulation appeared to be implemented by lateral prefrontal regions.
