Dual Fuel Range Cooker With 13amp Plug
Are you a home cook who enjoys the responsiveness of gas cooktops, but needs an oven for baking? Find a dual-fuel range cooker that gives you the best of both worlds.
Many home chefs with experience prefer gas cooktops due to their superior temperature control and the ability to utilize advanced cooking techniques such as charcoaling. These powerful stoves are costly particularly if they need an additional gas connection and an electrician for installation.
What is a 13amp plug?
If you own a dual fuel range cooker (also known as a gas and electric oven) then you'll require a suitably rated 13 amp plug. The plug should be wired by a licensed electrician into the cooker ring.
This ensures that the current flowing through the plug is secure and not too high, which could result in an electrical fire hazard. The plug is equipped with a fuse that controls the current. The fuse explodes when the current flows through it over its capacity, which protects the appliance from overload of electricity.
The fuse is classified at 13 amps, as indicated on the top of the plug and it indicates the maximum current that the plug is able to pass without causing harm to the appliance or overheating the socket. It is essential that when replacing fuses you always use the same rated amperage as the original. You risk overheating a socket if you replace a fuse with an unrelated rating.
A 13 amp fuse is likely to be a type of ceramic that is extremely robust and able to withstand the high temperatures generated by a range cooker. Ceramic elements are also fire-resistant and is therefore a better option over other kinds.
There are many ways to install a 13 amp plug. It could be wired to an existing live socket. the flex is then connected to it by a screw or plastic jaw type cord clamp. The clamp must be tightened after the plug has been securely pushed into position.
Some plugs have a diagram of wiring on cardboard over the pins, and these should be removed prior to connecting the wires. It is vital that the wires be cut to the proper length since leaving them too long can result in them becoming crushed when the plug cover is replaced. The earth wire must be the longest one to ensure it is connected prior to the line and neutral pins.
How do I install a 13amp plug?
The majority of dual fuel range cookers in the UK are wired to an outlet with a 13 amp rating and this is very important as ovens can draw a significant amount of current and standard plug sockets are only designed to handle 10 amps.
In general new appliances should include a plug at the point-of-sale. This is to ensure compliance with the Plugs and Sockets etc. (Safety Regulations) 1994. However, older appliances might not have the plug, and this is where the problem arises.
When connecting a cooker to an existing plug socket, the first thing that needs doing is to make sure that the rating of the fuse in the fuse box is in line with the plug's rating. This is crucial since a fuse that is not properly sized can be dangerous.
It is also recommended that the fuse has been completely seated into the cartridge, and that there isn't any excessive movement. The next step is to prepare the flex that is to be used. The first step is to remove the sheathing from the flex to expose the three conductors insulated within. Next nick the sheathing at the point of entry to the plug (beyond the cord grip) using a utility knife without penetrating the individual conductors. This nick should be wide enough to allow the sheathing to split and enlarge the nick when it is pulled back to reveal the cable beneath. Finally, cut off the excess sheathing and leave about 40mm over the flexing end.
The flex should be positioned over the plug, with the earth terminal on top and the live and neutral terminals on the bottom. The sheathing of each pin is removed using coloured conductors as a guide. The internal cable is then secured to the terminal using the cord grip. If the plug is equipped with a cord clamp that is screw-type, unwind it and then pull the insulation back to reveal the copper wires. Connect each insulated wire to the correct terminal by using the channel inside the plug. Begin with the earth conductor first, then the neutral and then the live.
What is the maximum current draw of a plug with 13amps?
The maximum current draw for a 13amp plug is 3kw at 230volts. This is quite a bit of power, but the standard fuse fitted in a UK plugtop will not fail until the cable has heated to a dangerous temperature. It is important to be aware of the amount of electricity you use in your kitchen, as a defective plug or socket could cause an explosion.
The fuses in plugtops are ceramic, around 25mm in length and 240V mains rated. They will feature the BS kitemark or similar marking on the side and contain sand. There are cheaper glass or plastic alternatives, however they should never be used with a live plug, or else you could cause a fire and get electrocuted!
Most dual fuel range cookers in the UK need to be hard-wired and cannot be plugged directly into an outlet on the wall. They are usually connected using an exclusive cooker circuit, which is only suitable for appliances using up to 20 amps.
Check the ring circuit of your home using the fuse box, or call an electrician nearby. You can ask whether the sockets are on the same ring, or if they are distinct. They should also be able tell you if there is an individual circuit that powers your oven.
If you're in the market for a new dual-fuel range cooker the size of your kitchen is an important factor to consider. stainless steel range cooker dual fuel have a great range of cookers that will fit any space, including compact 50-60 cm dual fuel models as well as huge 90cm+ double oven options from leading brands like Rangemaster and StovesAreUs.

What is the maximum draw of the switch on a cooker?
There is a lot of confusion about the maximum current draw of the cooker switch. Most cookers are hard-wired and connected to an oven-ring circuit and not an ordinary socket. It is because they often consume more than 20 amps when the electric and gas hob oven are used.
There aren't any dual fuel range cookers that are able to be fitted in a standard socket, because this could create an extremely high risk of fire and would violate electrical regulations. An experienced electrician will install any new electrical wiring to a cooker in the kitchen, and they will ensure that the load (both the oven and hob) does not exceed the capacity of supply of that circuit.
The benefits of a dual-fuel range cooker are the responsive heat of a gas cooktop along with the precision of an electric oven. They are therefore a favorite among both chefs and home cooks. If you want to try various cooking techniques like searing and grilling, a dual-fuel range cooker is the ideal choice.
When purchasing a new range cook, you should consider several factors, including size, functionality and cost. You will also need an electrical connection to your home for the appliance. If you're unsure you're not sure, it's recommended to get an Gas Safe engineer inspect your property prior to installation.

When purchasing a new dual fuel range cooker, it's important to check the owner's manual for specific information regarding the electrical and gas requirements. You will need a gas connection in your home. A plumber may be required to install it for you. It is also possible to require a cooker-ring circuit that is installed by a qualified electrical engineer.
