Where Can You Find The Most Effective Robot Vacuum Cleaner Best Information?
How to Choose the Best Robot Vacuum Cleaner

A robot vacuum can save you a lot of time and effort when it comes to regular cleaning. The best models do a great job picking up dust and light debris and allow you to set no-go zones for pet areas or power cords.

The pricier ones even mop your floors--though they still can't climb the stairs. Look for models that have smart mapping, real time hazard avoidance and large self-emptying bins.

Best Overall

The top robots that we tested are efficient and easy to use and able to cope with everyday debris. You'll also need a robot capable of handling stairs and has good pick-up power on carpets. If you're looking for extra features, you may be interested in a model that uses smart mapping technology, or an app that lets you control the robot remotely.

Camryn Rabideau, a contributing shopping writer for PEOPLE and a product reviewer who has tried numerous robotic vacuums, is acknowledged for her work in testing dozens of robot vacuums. She's a big fan of robot vacuums that provide the greatest convenience, such as self-emptying bins and charging docks that automatically empty and refill the water tanks used by mopping robots. She's also a fan of the robots that can recognize landmarks like furniture legs and power cords so they don't get tripped up when climbing the stairs.

This robot from Black and Decker has a lower navigation score and less object-avoidance tech than the most popular models. It comes with a large, non-refillable dustbin and an extended battery. It also comes with a feature which allows you to schedule cleaning times and return to where it stopped at the last point, making it easier for you to take care of larger spaces. This model is also a great option for pet owners since it is able to spot and avoid tangled hair and fallen food particles.

In our tests we tested the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra combines with a LIDAR sensor that is able to map rooms and identify obstacles using a structured light sensor that can identify objects and detect edges. The combination lets it stay clear of stairs, drops of liquid, and furniture legs with ease and save up to four floor maps for future use. It is able to pause and resume the cleaning process at any point, so that you can continue doing chores while it works. The included app provides an interactive 3D model of your home, room labels, and advanced cleaning options.

While this robot can't clean as well as our top-rated models but it excels in removing small particles such as baking soda and sand and heavier items like orzo pasta and screws made of metal. The only drawback is that it can't mop and has a less impressive navigation system.

The best for Carpet

If you have carpeting, pick one with a high rating for carpet and rug mobility and pickup. A lot of models are adept at picking up dust in low-pile carpets, and some are capable of picking up heavier debris, such as orzo pasta and metal screws. However, they aren't able to pick up small particles as well as canister or upright vacuums and may also be unable to pick up dirt in the vicinity of baseboards and thresholds.

The best option for carpeted homes is a two-in-one robot vacuum/mop, which allows you to swap out the cleaning bin as well as a damp mopping pad. The Roborock Q Revo, for example, is a vacuum cleaner and wet mop with circular pads that spin at a speed of 200 rotations per minute. It is able to detect and lift its pads when they come into contact with carpet, which prevents the floor from getting wet. It is not necessary remove them or replace them each time. The Q Revo also performs better than other robot vacuum/mops in the absence of obstacles and in getting closer to carpets and thresholds.

Another solid option is the iRobot Roomba Combo i5, which was a great performer in our tests and can be scheduled through the app to clean while you're away from home. It can also be set to mop only and we loved its excellent navigation on rug and floor surfaces, as well as its ability to get up and over furniture. The Combo i5 also has a very long run time and excellent path planning for a device of this size.

If you're looking for a top-of-the-line vacuum, the Shark AI Ultra 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum & Mop is a fantastic alternative. It has a large charging dock that can go weeks without needing to be empty and has impressive navigation skills and auto-emptying on carpets and floors. It's also got a smart-mapping feature and can be programmed to only operate during certain hours of the day (a handy feature for keeping mischievous kids and dextrous pets from causing chaos). The Shark isn't as powerful as other mop/robot combination models, but it still manages to pick hair and pet hair with a high degree of accuracy. It's also the best price of our top picks.

Best for Hard Flooring

Robot vacuums are the ideal option for hardwood floors since they are able to navigate around obstacles without damaging surfaces that are not bare. self cleaning vacuum are great for removing dust and crumbs, but struggle with pet hair and larger debris. They lack the suction of a high-end canister or upright vacuum, which makes them unsuitable for deep cleaning carpeted or upholstery areas.

The best robots are two-in-one, combining mop and vacuum to complete the task in one move. Look for one that has an onboard sensor that can detect any changes in the flooring and adjust suction in line with the changes. This feature is available on the ECOVACS Deebot T9+ and allows it to move seamlessly from hard carpeting to soft carpeting.

If your home is primarily comprised of hardwood floors, you should consider a robotic mop and vacuum combo like the eufy S1 Pro. This model features an efficient robot vacuum with smart navigation to clean hardwood and other hard surfaces. Additionally, it can mop too. Its sensors help it avoid the stairs and other hazards, so you don't have to worry about the bot plummeting down the stairs and damaging your hardwood.

The eufy S1 Pro mop is designed to clean hardwood floors using downward pressure, instead of simply swab them to get rid of dust and dirt. The pads that are reusable reduce waste and help to spread less germs. They can also be cleaned at docking stations to reduce time. The mops can also be cleaned and dried to avoid spreading mold.

Both the robovac as well as the mop are both controlled by your smartphone, making it easier to manage the device. For instance, you can use the app to set up a no-go zone where the vacuum can't go, label separate rooms, or schedule cleaning sessions for specific areas. The Eufy S1 Pro also has an auto-emptying dock, which collects debris through a trapdoor, and stores it in a disposable or bagless bin, which means you don't need to manually empty the bin like you do with other models.

Ideal for small Spaces

Like the name suggests that these robots are designed for smaller areas. They have smaller bins, which hold less debris. They are also more efficient when it comes to getting around corners better as opposed to larger models. They can also fit under furniture, where larger robots are unable to reach. These robots are also cheaper than higher-end models, but you will have to empty their dirt bins manually at the end of each cleaning session.

A couple of years ago, robotic vacuums went through a major change when manufacturers started adding sensors to help navigate around and avoid household objects that their traditional sensors would become stuck on or over. The improvements in technology reduced the number of times our testers had to clean up after a robotic snag.

The new sensors haven't eliminated all issues with these devices however. The lower-end models are not able to traverse the same obstacles as the older models, and they require some level of illumination to be able to see where they're going. If you live in a dark house or have lots of furniture with low-profiles, consider purchasing a top-mounted spinning LIDAR unit to map your space like our best overall and runner-up picks do. This allows them to work in darkness and avoid obstacles such as stairs.

In addition being capable of working in the dark, these models can be configured to use their cliff sensors only on or near the floor, not above them. It is still recommended to cover any mirrors that may interfere with this function, however, because the lasers used by a LIDAR-based model can bounce off reflective surfaces, causing the robot to think it's in another room.

A few of the models we recommend also allow you to create virtual no-go zones for areas where you do not want the robot move, which is useful if you have small children or pets. These features aren't present on all models we test. Check out our complete reviews before making your choice.
