Treatment For ADHD
Psychosocial therapy is the main treatment for add. add treatment natural contain stimulants such as methylphenidate, amphetamine, and atomoxetine. They can also be non-stimulants like clonidine or Guanfacine.
Stimulant medication are not recommended for patients who have active substance abuse problems but they can be considered in those who are in stable remission. Combination therapy using antidepressants, especially SSRIs, is a different option.
Stimulants
Stimulants increase the levels of dopamine and norepinephrine in brain synapses. This improves concentration and reduces hyperactivity and impulsivity. Most doctors prescribe medications from the stimulant class to treat ADHD. They may recommend methylphenidate (Concerta, Ritalin) or amphetamines which are similar to each other. add natural treatment of the medicine is contingent on the biochemistry of each person and how they respond to it. add adult treatment may take up to seven days for the full effects of a medication to be apparent. The medication will be effective for you if you notice improvement in concentration, memory sleep, impulsivity, and sleep.
Some of the side effects can include a decrease in appetite, trouble sleeping, and an increase in blood pressure and heart rate. Some people with a medical condition, such as high blood pressure or heart disease, should not take these medications. Stimulants are tightly controlled drugs with a potential for misuse. Only paediatricians or psychiatrists or, in some instances general practitioners, are able to prescribe stimulants. They are available in the form of tablets or pills, a patch that goes on the skin, or in liquids.
Children and adolescents who consume stimulants often experience appetite problems and weight loss. They can also develop symptoms of tics if the dosage is too high. If this occurs, the doctor will reduce the dosage to stop the drug from causing a worsening of symptoms.
The use of stimulant medications is for about 70% to 80 percent of adults and children with ADHD. The majority of adolescents and children find that their symptoms improve after being treated. This is especially true for those who have parents, teachers, or caregivers that can report improvements.
The early use of stimulants can reduce the risk of addiction disorders later in life. Wilens Katusic, Wilens, and colleagues81,82, and Biederman, et al83, found that stimulant therapy reduces the risk of acquiring substance use disorders in adolescence. However the protective effect diminishes as we enter early adulthood.
