The Best Robot Hoover
The most effective robot hoover will vacuum and mop without needing your attention, and it will leave your floors spotless. Its surprisingly affordable price and features that are high-end (such as dirt detection) are pluses.
Be sure to regularly examine the brushes of your robot for hair that is tangled and large particles and wash them if needed. Some models will also empty the onboard dustbin and deposit it in a larger bin located at the base. This can reduce the amount of fine dust that is released into the air.
1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive counterpart the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've tested. They are equipped with motors that are top of the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the most powerful model) they utilize smart mapping to create detailed floorplans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture leg. The robots also come with the feature of Carpet Boost that increases its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our first choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to get stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate through rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.
It's still a good deal, especially if your office or home has a lot of bare floors and you're looking to save money. It's also quiet and works when you're at work or in school. The only thing it lacks that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. And, if you need to change the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a compact, sleek package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it easy to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also features self-emptying dustbins, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets but it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.
This highly efficient mop and vacuum combination makes use of advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it also learns your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones through the well-designed app. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.
It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a carpeted area to prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also ideal to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.
During tests, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to clean an entire home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It did a good cleaning job on various floors and rooms with different flooring types including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.
It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular look that looks much like a Roomba model than the bulky models from the competition. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuum s. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station, and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has a simple mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's a noisy unit, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and look better. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however, it's more expensive and create more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of an array of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, and navigates more effectively than some of its premium competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection, although this wasn't quite foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the home based on how dirty these areas tend to be.
For larger houses, it's worth opting for models with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house by using the app or voice commands. If you have furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. Additionally a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more advanced than its price suggests. It is a great job cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with only one pad and a reciprocating motion that cleans better that most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tried. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to create an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app comes with a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and underneath furniture better. It also has a strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. And you can set up a spot clean that intensely cleans a localized area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble adorable eyes. It's good at vacuuming but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has an app that's less intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
