Analysis of cases with spirochetal uveitis related to spirochetes in a tertiary referral academic center.

Retrospective study of patients diagnosed with uveitis attributed to Treponema pallidum, Leptospira spp. and Borrelia burgdorferi from June 1991 until December 2019.

A total of 57 cases of spirochetal uveitis (22 patients with T. pallidum, 26 with Leptospira spp., and 9 with B. burgdorferi) that consisted 1% of the overall number of uveitics were recorded. All these cases presented with a wide spectrum of clinical presentations (anterior uveitis, posterior uveitis, panuveitis, vasculitis, papillitis, and in some rare cases concomitant posterior scleritis). The treatment included mainly penicillin or doxycycline, while corticosteroids were administered systematically in some cases with Borrelia or Leptospira infection. The final visual outcome was favorable (> 6/10 in Snellen visual acuity) in approximately 76% of our patients.

To compare between the effect of early (3months) and late (6months) silicone removal on the electroretinogram records.

Thirty-four eyes with complex primary rhegmatogenous macula off retinal detachment undergone vitrectomy. Silicone oil was removed after 3months in group I and after 6months in group II. Scotopic and photopic ERGs, pattern electroretinogram (PERG) and multifocal ERG (mfERG) and best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) were recorded for all eyes RESULTS Preoperative mean best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) measured was 0.93 ± 0.05 in group I and 0.9 ± 0.08 in group II. One month after silicone removal, mean BCVA was 0.20 ± 0.04 and 0.18 ± 0.02 in groups I and II respectively. Before silicone oil removal the electroretinographic a- and b-waves were greatly reduced in both groups with no significant difference between them. One month after removal of silicone oil, the electroretinographic a- and b-waves increased in both groups with no significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.46 and 0.23 respectively).

Relative levels of ALKBH5 and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) in glioma tissues and cell lines were determined by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and Western blot. Gain-of-function and loss-of-function approaches were used to investigate the role of ALKBH5 in mediating proliferation and energy metabolism of glioma cells. The regulatory effect of ALKBH5 on G6PD was analyzed using m6A-qRT-PCR. Our results showed that ALKBH5 was upregulated in glioma, which stimulated glioma cells to proliferate. Serving as a m6A eraser, ALKBH5 demethylated the target transcript G6PD and enhanced its mRNA stability, thereby promoting G6PD translation and activating the pentose phosphate pathway (PPP). Additional prognostic elements should be extracted from medical reports to identify the cancer stage for getting an exact measure of cancer and improving care quality. This study has collected 465 pathological and clinical reports of breast cancer sufferers from India's reputed medical institutions. The unstructured records were found distinct from each institute. Anatomic and biologic factors are extracted from medical records using the natural language processing, machine learning and rule-based method for prognostic stage detection. This study has extracted anatomic stage, grade, estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) from medical reports with high accuracy and predicted prognostic stage for both regions. The prognostic stage prediction's average accuracy is found 92% and 82% in rural and urban areas, respectively. It was essential to combine biological and anatomical elements under a single prognostic staging method. A generic clinical decision-unifying staging method for prognostic stage detection with great accuracy in various institutions of different regional areas suggests that the proposed research improves the prognosis of breast cancer.Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disease currently diagnosed based on characteristic motor dysfunctions. The most common Parkinson's disease animal model induces massive nigrostriatal degeneration by intracerebral infusion of 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA). Motor deficits in rat models of Parkinson's disease were previously addressed in other works. However, an accurate quantification of muscle function in freely moving PD-lesioned rats over time has not been described until now. In this work, we address the muscular activity characterization of a 6-OHDA-lesion model of PD along 6 weeks post-lesion based on spectral and morphological analysis of the signals. Using chronic implanted EMG electrodes in a hindlimb muscle of freely moving rats, we have evaluated the effect of the PD neurotoxic model in the muscular activity during locomotion. EMG signals obtained from animals with different time post-injury were analyzed. Power spectral densities were characterized by the mean and median frequency, and the EMG burst stationarity was previously verified for all animals.
