Musculoskeletal modelling is used to assess musculoskeletal loading during gait. Linear scaling methods are used to personalize generic models to each participant's anthropometry. This approach introduces simplifications, especially when used in paediatric and/or pathological populations. This study aimed to compare results from musculoskeletal simulations using various models ranging from linear scaled to highly subject-specific models, i.e., including the participant's musculoskeletal geometry and electromyography data.

Magnetic resonance images (MRI) and gait data of one typically developing child and three children with cerebral palsy were analysed. Musculoskeletal simulations were performed to calculate joint kinematics, joint kinetics, muscle forces and joint contact forces using four modelling frameworks 1) Generic-scaled model with static optimization, 2) Generic-scaled model with an electromyography-informed approach, 3) MRI-based model with static optimization, and 4) MRI-based model with an eler than the impact of including electromyography. Clinical reasoning based on overall root-mean-square-differences in musculoskeletal simulation results between healthy and pathological participants are unlikely to be affected by the modelling choice.
Structural properties of the arterial wall are important diagnostic parameters. The current study aimed at investigating the hemodynamic properties and intima-media thickness changes of the common carotid artery in human subjects with atherosclerosis in order to determine the relationships between these indices.

This study presented methods to detect instantaneous changes in the lumen diameter, intima media thickness, longitudinal movement and acceleration, and velocity of the left side of common carotid artery. These parameters were measured in 155 male patients, categorized into control (n=42), mild (n=39), moderate (n=37), and severe (n=37) carotid stenosis groups by B-mode and Doppler ultrasonography. The pure arthroscopic technique has the advantage of allowing concomitant intra-articular surgery, but involves a long learning curve. Here we present a hybrid concept using dedicated instrumentation comprising a specific guide with or without arthroscopic step, and notably ensuring the safety and reproducibility of the procedure, whatever the modality. This technique offers an alternative to arthroscopic coracoid bone block, performing the more complex steps as open surgery without major change to Latarjet's original technique, so as to enable concomitant intra-articular surgery if needed while getting around some of the limitations of the purely arthroscopic procedure.
Pantrapezial osteoarthritis of the thumb (OA) includes involvements of scaphotrapezoidtrapezoidal (STT) and trapeziometacarpal (TM) joints which are source of disabling pain and function loss. Whilst radical procedures or arthroplasties are available, more conservative techniques have been developed recently and have gain popularity. They aim of this study was to know the midterms results of patients presenting peritrapezial OA treated with a double interposition pyrocarbon implant at the STT and TM joints. Our hypothesis was that patients suffering from pantrapezial OA treated with this technique would improve their functional scores at the last follow-up.

This descriptive, retrospective, observational study analysed 31 patients treated with a double STT and TM pyrocarbon interposition implant ("Burger arthroplasty") between 2009-2018. Selleckchem FIN56 Patients were clinically and radiologically diagnosed with pantrapezial OA before surgery (Eaton stage I or II). The primary endpoint was the comparison of the preoperative and postoperative values of the functional scores QuickDASH and PRWE. Epidemiological data and radiological results were reported. Eighteen patients were available for analysis (58%) with a mean age of 62 years (range 49-79). At last follow-up (44 months, range 9-95) we found significant reduced pain, significant improvement of QuickDASH and PRWE scores and of pinch strength (p<0.05). Range of motion, grip and pinch strength did not improve significantly (p>0.05). Two patients required revision surgery.

The double STT and TM pyrocarbon interposition offer good results at midterm on patient suffering from early stages of pantrapezial OA with preserved trapezium structure.

We investigated hepatic thyroid hormone metabolism in two NAFLD models wild-type mice fed a Western diet with fructose and Lepr
mice fed a methionine- and choline-deficient diet. AAV8-mediated liver-specific Dio1 knockdown was employed to investigate the role of Dio1 during the progression of NAFLD. Intrahepatic thyroid hormone levels, deiodinase activity, and metabolic parameters were measured.

Dio1 expression and activity were increased in the early stages of NAFLD and were associated with an increased T
/T
ratio.
