Immediately post-treatment, patients needed more support regarding pain (p = 0.04) and worries about treatment results (p = 0.05), whereas patients in longer-term survivorship needed more support regarding anxiety (p = 0.02), changes in sexual relationships (p = 0.04), and fear of death and dying (p = 0.001). CONCLUSION This study identifies areas needing further development to improve quality of care for HNC-P in the immediate post-treatment period, as well as early determinants of unmet needs. HNC clinics may want to routinely screen for anxiety, neuroticism, and burden from other life events, to pro-actively address needs upon treatment completion and alleviate disease burden.PURPOSE Medication reconciliation can reduce drug-related iatrogenesis by facilitating exhaustive information transmission at care transition points. Given the vulnerability of cancer patients to adverse drug events, medication reconciliation could provide a significant clinical benefit in cancer care. This review aims to synthesize existing evidence on medication reconciliation in cancer patients. METHODS A comprehensive search was performed in the PubMed/Medline, Scopus, and Web of Science databases, associating the keywords "medication reconciliation" and "cancer" or "oncology." RESULTS Fourteen studies met the selection criteria. Various medication reconciliation practices were reported performed at admission or discharge, for hospitalized or ambulatory patients treated with oral or parenteral anticancer drugs. In one randomized controlled trial, medication reconciliation decreased clinically significant medication errors by 26%. Although most studies were non-comparative, they highlighted that medication reconciliation led to identification of discrepancies and other drug-related problems in up to 88% and 94.7% of patients, respectively. The impact on post-discharge healthcare utilization remains under-evaluated and mostly inconclusive, despite a trend toward reduction. No comparative economic evaluations were available but one study estimated the benefitcost ratio of medication reconciliation to be 2.311, suggesting its benefits largely outweigh its costs. Several studies also underlined the extended pharmacist time required for the intervention, highlighting the need for further cost analysis. CONCLUSION Medication reconciliation can reduce adverse drug events in cancer patients. More robust and economic evaluations are still required to support its development in everyday practice.Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are increasingly incorporated as endpoints in oncology clinical trials but are often only validated in English. ClinicalTrials.gov was queried for cancer-specific randomized control trials (RCTs) addressing a therapeutic intervention and enrolling primarily in the USA. Peer-reviewed validation of Spanish and Chinese versions of each PROM was assessed. Of 103 eligible trials, a PROM was used as a primary endpoint in 25 RCTs (24.3%) and as a secondary endpoint in 78 RCTs (75.7%). A total of 61 of the 103 eligible trials (59.2%) and 17 of the 25 trials with a PROM primary endpoint (68.0%) used a PROM with either no Spanish or Chinese validation. The absence of validated PROM translations may diminish the voices of non-English language speaking trial participants. With an increasingly diverse US population, validation of non-English PROM translations may decrease disparities in trial participation and improve generalizability of study results.This exploratory trial determined the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy of a brief intervention (BI), supplemented with text messaging and a curated Web site, on alcohol use and sexual risk behavior among young women. Young women seeking care at a reproductive health clinic were screened for alcohol misuse and sexual risk behavior. Those who screened positive and who agreed to participate (N = 48; M = 22.67 years) were randomized to either (a) a brief in-person session during which personalized feedback regarding alcohol use and sexual risk taking was provided and discussed, or (b) a control condition. Feasibility was assessed by recruitment and retention rates. Acceptability was assessed with participant ratings of their intervention. Efficacy was measured using self-reported alcohol use and sexual behavior at baseline and during a 3-month follow-up. We supplemented the quantitative data with qualitative data from semi-structured interviews. Feasibility data indicated that 64% of eligible n, supplemented with text messaging and a Web site, that targeted alcohol use and sexual behavior was feasible and acceptable to young women and led to lower levels of alcohol misuse and sexual risk behavior.Primary intracranial gliosarcoma is a rare malignant brain tumour, and the most effective treatment for gliosarcoma remains unclear. This study aimed to identify risk factors for progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) in these cases. This retrospective single-centre study evaluated 103 patients (median age, 51 years; 67 men [65%]) with primary intracranial gliosarcoma between 2006 and 2017. Treatments included surgery (GTR, 63 patients; STR, 39 patients; biopsy, 1 patient), radiotherapy (adjuvant, 76 patients; exclusive treatment, 1 patient), and chemotherapy (adjuvant temozolomide, 52 patients; adjuvant nimustine/teniposide, 19 patients; adjuvant bevacizumab, 1 patient; exclusive nimustine/teniposide treatment, 1 patient). The median OS was 13.3 months, and the median PFS was 9.1 months. In the multivariate analyses, the poor prognostic factors were ependymal lining enhancement of the lateral ventricle (PFS, HR 2.406, p = 0.005; OS, HR 2.946, p = 0.009) and enhancement in the motor functional cortex (PFS, HR 2.892, p = 0.002; OS, HR 2.639, p = 0.009). selleck kinase inhibitor Good OS was predicted by adjuvant radiotherapy alone (HR 0.071, p less then 0.001), adjuvant temozolomide-based chemotherapy alone (HR 0.063, p = 0.005), adjuvant temozolomide-based chemotherapy with concurrent radiotherapy (HR 0.056, p less then 0.001), and salvage surgery at recurrence (HR 0.449, p = 0.031). Survival was optimized in cases treated using maximal safe resection followed by adjuvant temozolomide-based chemotherapy with concurrent radiotherapy. Furthermore, salvage surgery provided meaningful therapeutic benefits for recurrent gliosarcoma.
