Logistic regression analyses identified that high-active workers' risk of having NP was 1.76 times lesser than other groups (office workers, housewives and retired patients). Nearly half of the patients with LBP were accompanied by NP. It was remarkably more common in sedentary patients and patients with low socioeconomic status. High physical activity at work was found to decrease the risk of having NP. Clinicians should emphasize on exercise training as a therapeutic intervention while LBP is being treated.Sporotrichosis is a neglected subcutaneous mycosis of humans and animals acquired by traumatic inoculation of soil and plant material (classical route) contaminated with infectious propagules of the pathogen or being bitten/scratched by infected cats (alternative route). Within a genus composed of 53 species displaying an essentially environmental core, there are only a few members which have considerable impacts on human or animal health. Infections are typically caused by S. brasiliensis, S. schenckii or S. globosa. Rare mammal pathogens include members of the S. click here pallida and S. stenocereus complexes. To illustrate the tremendous impact of emerging zoonotic sporotrichosis on public health, we discuss the main features of the expanding epidemics driven by S. brasiliensis in cats and humans. The cat entry in the transmission chain of sporotrichosis, causing epizooties (cat-cat) or zoonosis (cat-human), has contributed to the definition of new paradigms in Sporothrix transmission, reaching epidemic levels, making the disease a serious public health problem. Indeed, S. brasiliensis infection in humans and animals is likely to become even more important in the future, with projections of its expansion in biogeographic domains and host range, as well as greater virulence in mammals. Therefore, lessons from a long-standing outbreak in the state of Rio de Janeiro about the source and distribution of the etiological agents among outbreak areas can be used to create better control and prevention plans and increase awareness of sporotrichosis as a serious emerging zoonotic disease.Dienogest (DNG) is a progestin with highly selective progesterone activity and known to be effective in the treatment of endometriosis. This prospective cohort study in patients who had been treated with DNG 2 mg (Visanne®) for endometriosis was conducted to assess the safety and effectiveness of DNG in a large Korean cohort. This study included 3356 patients with endometriosis from 73 centers in Korea. All patients were treated with DNG 2 mg daily and were followed up for at least 6 months after initial visit. Any adverse events were recorded including severity, onset/closing date, outcomes, treatments, and the causality with DNG. Effectiveness of DNG was measured by changes in visual analogue scale (VAS) from baseline at the end of follow-up. The mean age of the subjects was 34.96 years, and the mean duration of treatment was 285.44 days. Incidence of adverse drug reaction (ADR) was 13.27% (413/3113). The most frequently reported ADR were "abnormal uterine bleeding" 4.14% (129/3113), "increased weight" 2.57% (80/3113), and "headache" 1.22% (38/3113). The number of patients (%) with favorable bleeding patterns was observed to increase as the duration of treatment increases. Amenorrhea was observed in 29.63%, 41.25%, 46.26%, and 53.20% of patients at 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, and more than 12 months follow-up period, respectively. The mean (±SD) VAS change from baseline at the last follow-up visit was -28.19 ± 28.39 mm (P value less then 0.0001). This large cohort study confirms, in routine clinical practice, that DNG is safe and effective for treatment of endometriosis. In this study, D-alpha-tocopheryl polyethylene glycol-1000 succinate (TPGS)-coated docetaxel-loaded liposomes were developed to reverse multidrug resistance (MDR) and enhance lung cancer therapy. Evaluations were performed using human lung cancer A549 and resistant A549/DDP cells. The reversal multidrug resistant effect was assessed by P-gp inhibition assay, cytotoxicity, cellular uptake, and apoptosis assay. The tumor xenograft model was built by subcutaneous injection of A549/DDP cells in the right dorsal area of nude mice. The tumor volumes and body weights were measured every other day. The TPGS-coated liposomes showed a concentration- and time-dependent cytotoxicity and significantly enhanced the cytotoxicity of docetaxel in A549/DDP cells. Confocal laser scanning images indicated that higher concentrations of coumarin-6 were successfully delivered into the cytoplasm, and the TPGS-coated liposomes enhanced intracellular drug accumulation by inhibiting overexpressed P-glycoprotein. The TPGS-coated liposomes were shown to induce apoptosis. Furthermore, in vivo anti-tumor studies revealed that TPGS-coated docetaxel-loaded liposomes had outstanding anti-tumor efficacy in an A549/DDP xenograft model. The TPGS-coated liposomes, compared with PEG-coated liposomes, showed significant advantages in vitro and in vivo. The TPGS-coated liposomes were able to reverse MDR and enhance lung cancer therapy. Graphical abstract .AIM Brain metastases traditionally carried a poor prognosis with treatment being a combination of surgery, whole-brain radiation therapy, and glucocorticoids; however, this treatment paradigm carried a significant amount of morbidity. In recent years, stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), which involves the delivery of a highly conformal dose of radiation over a single session, has been shown to be an effective alternative to WBRT with excellent rates of local control and improved quality of life; however, a survival benefit has not been demonstrated. Recent developments have challenged the traditional view of the central nervous system being "immunologically privileged" which has led to a greater focus on treating these patients with systemic therapies. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) have been shown to improve survival in multiple malignancies. As a result, there has been increased utilization in combining these therapies in this setting. METHODS We conducted a literature search of medical databases (e.g. PubMed) for articles involving the use of immune checkpoint inhibitors and stereotactic radiosurgery in managing brain metastases.
