8/100 patient-years). The Cox regression analysis did not show any relationships among GIB and the variables considered.

The patients' clinical history is neither a predictor for GIB bleeding nor a guide to the choice of the oral anticoagulant to be administered. Routinely applying bleeding risk screening, such as occult blood in the stool, should be added to the periodic laboratory checks for early recognition of patients at higher risk of GIB.

One of the fundamental problems is the evaluation of the preparedness of countries to cope with COVID-19 pandemic crisis to detect factors associated with the reduction of infectious disease and rollout of vaccinations in society. The study here confronts this problem by developing two basic indexes, which measure the performance to face pandemic threats by countries. In particular, the Index r (as resilience) detects which countries have had the best performance to reduce the negative impact of mortality related to COVID-19 pandemic and the Index p (as preparedness and prevention) assesses best-performer countries to support COVID-19 vaccinations to constrain future pandemic threats and support the recovery of socioeconomic systems. Index of resilience is a composite measure based on three indicators, given by average mortality, hospital occupancy and Intensive Care Units occupancy per 100 000 people, producing an overall score; Index of prevention is also a composite measure of two indicators related COVID-19 vaccinations (doses of vaccines administrated and total vaccinates per 100 000 people), producing an overall score. The application of these indexes on a case study of European countries, having a homogenous socioeconomic area, shows strategic positioning of countries to cope with a major pandemic threat. Findings reveal that all countries have some weaknesses and no country has a high preparedness to cope with a major epidemic or pandemic. Moreover, results suggest that best-performer countries to cope with COVID-19 pandemic crisis have a smaller size of population and better public governance, associated with high expenditures in health system. These indexes can help policymakers for designing strategies to improve preparedness to face future pandemic threats.
To investigate associations between annual average air pollution exposures and health, most epidemiological studies rely on estimated residential exposures because information on actual time-activity patterns can only be collected for small populations and short periods of time due to costs and logistic constraints. In the current study, we aim to compare exposure assessment methodologies that use data on time-activity patterns of children with residence-based exposure assessment. We compare estimated exposures and associations with lung function for residential exposures and exposures accounting for time activity patterns.

We compared four annual average air pollution exposure assessment methodologies; two rely on residential exposures only, the other two incorporate estimated time activity patterns. The time-activity patterns were based on assumptions about the activity space and make use of available external data sources for the duration of each activity. Mapping of multiple air pollutants (NO

orrelated and associated with similar decreases in lung function. Our study illustrates that the annual average exposure to air pollution for 8-year-old children in the Netherlands is sufficiently captured by residential exposures.

Bike-sharing systems (BSS) are short-term bike rentals that can be borrowed from one location and retired to another at the conclusion of the trip. In 2019, 109,589 BSS trips were made each day in the U.S, and half of those in New York City (NYC).

This study aims to quantify the health risks and benefits of BSS in the U.S. and NYC.

This study followed a quantitative health impact assessment approach to estimate the risks and benefits of BSS. Specifically, we quantified the health impacts of physical activity, air pollution, and traffic incidents. We analyzed all the trips made by BSS in the U.S. and NYC. Input data on transport, traffic safety, air quality, and physical activity were collated from public records and scientific publications. We modeled the health impacts on adult users related to mortality, disease incidence, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), and health economic impacts (related to morbidity and mortality).

We estimated that in the U.S. BSS trips resulted in an annual reduction of 4.7 premature deaths, 737 DALYs, and 36 million $USD in health economic impacts, mainly derived from the increment in physical activity. In NYC, we estimated an annual reduction of 2 premature deaths, 355 DALYs, and 15 million $USD in health economic impacts.

BSS in the U.S. and NYC provide a health benefit for bicyclists. Improvements in air quality and traffic safety across U.S. E7766 cities will maximize the health benefits of BSS.

Individual-level socioeconomic status (SES) has been shown to be an important determinant of lung function. Neighborhood level SES factors may increase psychological and physiologic stress and may also reflect other exposures that can adversely affect lung function, but few studies have considered neighborhood factors.

Our aim was to assess the association between neighborhood-level SES and lung function.

We cross-sectionally analyzed 6168 spirometry test results from participants in the Gulf long-term Follow-up Study, a large cohort of adults enrolled following the largest maritime oil spill in US history. Outcomes of interest included the forced expiratory volume in 1s (FEV
; mL), the forced vital capacity (FVC; mL), and the FEV
/FVC ratio (%). Neighborhood deprivation was measured by linking participant home addresses to an existing Area Deprivation Index (ADI) and categorized into quartiles. Individual-level SES measures were collected at enrollment using a structured questionnaire and included income, educational attainment, and financial strain.
