Plots illness throughout infancy: the patient presentation as well as literature review.
The polarization field P(r) does vary in space, deviating from ±P S , following the depolarizing field in linear response, but the model does not include a polarization-gradient term as would appear in a Ginzburg-Landau free energy. The model is, however, worth characterizing, both as paradigmatic reference, and as applicable to not-so-thin films. The correct renormalization of parameters is obtained for the thick-film square-root behaviour in the mentioned settings, and the sub-Kittel regime is fully characterized. New results are presented alongside well-known ones for a comprehensive description. Among the former, a natural separation between strong and weak ferroelectric coupling in superlattices is found, which depends exclusively on the dielectric anisotropy of the ferroelectric layer. The main objective of this work was to study the superconducting properties of REBCO films with a mixture of rare-earth (RE) ions with large difference in ion size, in particular Sm3+ and Yb3+. These Yb1-x Sm x Ba2Cu3O7- δ films have been successfully prepared for the first time by chemical solution deposition following the extremely low-fluorine route, which allows reducing the fluorine content by 93% with respect to standard full trifluoroacetate solutions. On the one hand, critical temperature Tc remains stable at approximately 90 K with Sm content up to x = 0.5 where Tc starts to increase towards the values of pure SmBCO films of approximately 95 K. On the other hand, the critical current densities Jc of the pure SmBCO films are the largest at 77 K, where the influence of a higher Tc is very relevant, while at lower temperatures and low fields, the mixed films reach larger values. This demonstrates that mixing rare-earth elements RE in REBa2Cu3O7- δ causes a change in the pinning properties of the films and reveals the importance of selecting adequate REBCO compounds according to the temperature and magnetic field region of a desired application.Social learning, where information is acquired from others, is taxonomically widespread. There is growing evidence that animals selectively employ 'social learning strategies', which determine e.g. when to copy others instead of learning asocially and whom to copy. Furthermore, once animals have acquired new information, e.g. regarding profitable resources, it is beneficial for them to commit it to long-term memory (LTM), especially if it allows access to profitable resources in the future. Research into social learning strategies and LTM has covered a wide range of taxa. However, otters (subfamily Lutrinae), popular in zoos due to their social nature and playfulness, remained neglected until a recent study provided evidence of social learning in captive smooth-coated otters (Lutrogale perspicillata), but not in Asian short-clawed otters (Aonyx cinereus). We investigated Asian short-clawed otters' learning strategies and LTM performance in a foraging context. We presented novel extractive foraging tasks twice to captive family groups and used network-based diffusion analysis to provide evidence of a capacity for social learning and LTM in this species. A major cause of wild Asian short-clawed otter declines is prey scarcity. Furthering our understanding of how they learn about and remember novel food sources could inform key conservation strategies. The investigation of the influence of hydrothermal synthesis conditions such as synthetic temperature, the amount of solvent, addition of additives including sodium hydroxide, lithium chloride and 2-methylimidazole on the morphology and size of MIL-121 was carried out. The experimental results indicated the significant impact of hydrothermal synthesis conditions on the morphologies and sizes of MIL-121 crystals. The synthesis temperature has little effect on the morphology, which is mainly reflected in the change of the aspect ratio, but the effect on the size is significant under low-temperature conditions. Additives have an important influence on the morphology and size of MIL-121. Our study provides a potential for the improvement of MIL-121 adsorption performance.A series of different substituted terpyridine (tpy)-based ligands have been synthesized by Kröhnke method. Their binding behaviour was evaluated by complexing them with Co(II), Fe(II) and Zn(II) ions, which resulted in interesting coordination compounds with formulae, [Zn(tpy)2]PF6, [Co(tpy)2](PF6)2, [Fe(tpy)2](PF6)2 and interesting spectroscopic properties. Their absorption and emission behaviours in dilute solutions were investigated in order to explain structure-property associations and demonstrate the impact of different aryl substituents on the terpyridine scaffold as well as the role of the metal on the complexes. Photo-luminescence analysis of the complexes in acetonitrile solution revealed a transition from hypsochromic to bathochromic shift. All the compounds displayed remarkable photo-luminescent properties and various maximum emission peaks owing to the different nature of the functional groups. Furthermore, the anti-microbial potential of ligands and complexes was evaluated with docking analyses carried out to investigate the binding affinity of terpyridine-based ligands along with corresponding proteins (shikimate dehydrogenase and penicillin-binding protein) binding sites. To obtain further insight into molecular orbital distributions and spectroscopic properties, density functional theory calculations were performed for representative complexes. selleckchem The photophysical activity and interactions between chromophore structure and properties were both investigated experimentally as well as theoretically.Determining the tempo and mode of non-avian dinosaur extinction is one of the most contentious issues in palaeobiology. Extensive disagreements remain over whether their extinction was catastrophic and geologically instantaneous or the culmination of long-term evolutionary trends. These conflicts have arisen due to numerous hierarchical sampling biases in the fossil record and differences in analytical methodology, with some studies identifying long-term declines in dinosaur richness prior to the Cretaceous-Palaeogene (K-Pg) boundary and others proposing continued diversification. Here, we use Bayesian phylogenetic generalized linear mixed models to assess the fit of 12 dinosaur phylogenies to three speciation models (null, slowdown to asymptote, downturn). We do not find strong support for the downturn model in our analyses, which suggests that dinosaur speciation rates were not in terminal decline prior to the K-Pg boundary and that the clade was still capable of generating new taxa. Nevertheless, we advocate caution in interpreting the results of such models, as they may not accurately reflect the complexities of the underlying data.
