Patient consultation data were extracted from routine Pihlajalinna Työterveys patient registers from 2015 to 2017. In addition, process indicators were collected from the electronic system. Data were cleaned and analysed on an intention-to-treat basis using analysis of covariance. RESULTS There was no significant difference between intervention and control units in terms of sickness absences of different duration. Process indicators suggested that there was a change in physicians' practice of recording patients' risk of work disability and work-relatedness of visits following the educational intervention. CONCLUSION Education with an electronic reminder can change physicians' practice, but long-term follow up is needed to determine whether this impacts on patients' sickness absences. Most trauma-related research originates from trauma centres, and there are limited available data regarding the treatment of trauma patients throughout the Nordic countries. These countries differ from economically similar countries due to their cold climate, mix of rural and urban areas, and the long distances separating many residents from a trauma centre. Research funders and the general public expect trauma research to focus on all links in the treatment chain. Here we conducted a systematic review to assess the amount of trauma-related research from the Nordic countries between January 1995 and April 2018, and the distribution of this research among different countries and different parts of the trauma treatment chain. METHODS A systematic literature search was conducted in Medline, Embase, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Scopus. We included studies concerning the trauma population from Nordic countries, and published re still unexplored and most of the available studies are observational studies with low research evidence.OBJECTIVE RNA interference and miRNA mediated mechanisms have been proposed to explain the expression of a specific variant of VSP at a time on the surface of Giardia lamblia. Recently, epigenetic mechanisms involving histone acetylations have been proposed to explain the process of vsp gene switching in Giardia lamblia. However, due to the limited availability of specific antibodies for all the vsp variants present in the genome, it was difficult to monitor vsp gene switching. In this study, we have used an endogenous tagging method to tag specific vsp genes vsp1267 and vsp9B10A with a sequence encoding hemagglutinin (HA) epitope at the 3'end of the coding sequences without altering the 5' upstream elements. With this method, we have monitored the expression of the tagged vsp genes in cells treated with histone deacetylase inhibitors using RT-PCR. RESULTS Our results show that vsp1267-3XHA can be induced by treatment with sodium 4-phenylbutyrate, M344 and splitomicin but not by apicidin and Trichostatin A, while vsp9B10A-3XHA expression can be induced by Trichostatin A and splitomicin but not by sodium 4-phenylbutyrate, M344 and apicidin. The induced expression of these variants was not due to growth inhibition. These results support the role of histone acetylations in vsp expression.BACKGROUND Apicomplexans are the causative agents of major human diseases such as malaria and toxoplasmosis. A novel group of apicomplexans, recently named corallicolids, have been detected in corals inhabiting tropical shallow reefs. These apicomplexans may represent a transitional lifestyle between free-living phototrophs and obligate parasites. click here To shed light on the evolutionary history of apicomplexans and to investigate their ecology in association with corals, we screened scleractinians, antipatharians, alcyonaceans, and zoantharians from shallow, mesophotic, and deep-sea communities. We detected corallicolid plastids using 16S metabarcoding, sequenced the nuclear 18S rRNA gene of corallicolids from selected samples, assembled and annotated the plastid and mitochondrial genomes from a corallicolid that associates with a deep-sea coral, and screened the metagenomes of four coral species for corallicolids. RESULTS We detected 23 corallicolid plastotypes that were associated with 14 coral species from threeed in a different function. Thus, these genes may represent another set of genetic tools whose function was adapted from photosynthesis as the ancestors of apicomplexans evolved towards parasitic lifestyles. This syndrome might contribute to the dysfunction of the cervicothoracic and glenohumeral joints. OBJECTIVES The present study will aim to investigate the effectiveness of a comprehensive corrective exercises program (CCEP) and subsequent detraining on alignment, muscle activation and movement pattern in men with UCS. METHODS/DESIGN This is a parallel-group randomized controlled trial. Participants will be 22 men aged 18 to 28 years who are suffering from UCS. Participants in the intervention group will conduct CCEP (three times a week for 8 weeks), followed by 4 weeks of detraining. The control group will do their daily activities. Participants will be randomized (11) into the intervention or the control group. The primary outcome will be upper trapezius activations. Secondary outcomes consist of electromyography of middle and lower trapezius and serratus anterior muscles, scapular dyskinesis test, forward head and shoulder angles, thoracic kyphosis angle, and neck flexion pattern test. DISCUSSION We propose to evaluate the effectiveness of a randomized controlled trial of a CCEP in men with UCS on their alignment, selected muscle activations, and relevant movement patterns. Results from our trial may provide new insights into the effects of exercise not only on the alignment but also on muscle activation and movement patterns that are important outcomes for people with postural malalignments and, if successful, could assist therapists in evidence-based clinical decision-making.
