This study sought to evaluate whether right ventricular (RV) tissue heterogeneity on computed tomography (CT) 1) is associated with conduction delay in arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC); and 2) distinguishes patients with ARVC from those with exercise-induced arrhythmogenic remodeling (EIAR) and control individuals.

ARVC is characterized by fibrofatty replacement, related to conduction delay and ventricular tachycardias. Distinguishing ARVC from acquired, EIAR is challenging.

Patients with ARVC or EIAR and combined endocardial-epicardial electroanatomic voltage mapping for VT ablation with CT integration were enrolled. Patients without structural heart disease served as control individuals. Tissue heterogeneity on CT (CT heterogeneity) was automatically quantified within the 2-mm subepicardium of the entire RV free wall at normal sites and low voltage sites harboring late potentials (LP+) in ARVC/EIAR.

Seventeen patients with ARVC (15 males; age 50 ± 17 years), 9 patients with EIAentify LP+ as a surrogate for ventricular tachycardia substrate. The overall tissue heterogeneity on CT allows the distinguishing of patients with ARVC from those with EIAR and control individuals.Air embolisms can lead to lethal results; however, few reports have systemically investigated this issue. Of 348 consecutive patients with atrial fibrillation who underwent cryoballoon ablation, procedures were performed conventionally in 251 patients. In the remaining 97 patients, a water bucket was used while inserting the cryoballoon into the sheath. A total of 10 coronary air embolisms with ST-segment elevation in the inferior leads were observed among 9 (2.6%) patients. Here we provide an overview of the published reports on prevalence of intracranial arterial calcifications on computed tomography imaging and histopathology in relation to risk factors and clinical outcomes. We performed a systematic search in Medline, with a search filter using synonyms for computed tomography scanning, (histo)pathology, different intracranial arterial beds, and calcification. We found that intracranial calcifications are a frequent finding in all arterial beds with the highest prevalence in the intracranial internal carotid artery. In general, prevalence increases with age. Longitudinal studies on calcification progression and intervention studies are warranted to investigate the possible causal role of calcification on clinical outcomes. The Ross procedure in children is performed either as a primary operation, or a secondary operation after initial aortic valve surgery.

The study aimed to determine whether the outcomes of primary and secondary Ross procedure are similar.

All patients who underwent Ross procedure between 1995 and 2018 were included in the study. Outcomes were compared between those who had primary Ross procedure and those who had secondary Ross procedure, after aortic valve surgery. Propensity score matching for baseline characteristics and risk factors for death and reoperation was performed.

Of 140 Ross procedures, 51.4% (n=72 of 140) were primary operations, while 48.6% (n=68 of 140) were secondary operations. Patients undergoing primary Ross procedure tended to be older (median age 8.6 years vs. 7.0 years; p=0.10) and have a higher weight (28.9kg vs. 19.4kg; p=0.07). There were no significant differences in survival or freedom from reoperation in the unmatched cohort. From May 2007 to December 2018, 445 patients with malignant PE who underwent echocardiography-guided PCC were enrolled. Clinical, laboratory, echocardiographic and procedural findings, and clinical outcome data were collected. Use of anti-inflammatory agents including colchicine, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or steroids after PCC was also analyzed. Colchicine was administered in a dose of 0.6mg orally, twice a day for 2months. The primary outcome was defined as a composite of all-cause death and re-PCC or pericardial window operation due to recurred PE.
