Inferior mesenteric arteriovenous fistula can be a rare cause of ischemic colitis and, if necessary, an appropriate treatment based on high clinical suspicion can reduce the risk of complications related to a missed diagnosis.
In Arabidopsis thaliana (Arabidopsis), clade IIb lateral organ boundary domain (LBD) 37, 38, and 39 proteins negatively regulate anthocyanin biosynthesis and affect nitrogen responses.
To investigate the possible role of LBD genes in anthocyanin accumulations among green and purple cabbages (Brassica oleracea var. capitata), we determined sequence variations and expression levels of cabbage homologs of Arabidopsis LBD37, 38, and 39.
DNA and mRNA sequences of BoLBD37, BoLBD37L (BoLBD37-like), BoLBD38, BoLBD38L (BoLBD38-like), and BoLBD39 gene in cabbage were determined. Allelic variations of BoLBD37L alleles in cabbages, resulting from insertions, were validated by genomic DNA PCR. Gene expressions were examined by semi-quantitative reverse transcription (RT-PCR) or quantitative RT-PCR.
Based on the expression analyses, BoLBD37L with two alleles, BoLBD37L-G and BoLBD37L-P, was selected as a candidate gene important for differential anthocyanin accumulation. BoLBD37L-P contains an 136 base pair insertion in the 2nd exon, producing two splicing variants encoding truncated proteins. Most purple cabbage lines were found to have BoLBD37L-P allele as homozygotes or heterozygotes, and only two out of sixty-four purple cabbages were identified as BoLBD37L-G homozygotes. Expression analyses of anthocyanin biosynthesis genes and their upstream regulators, including BoLBD37L, suggest that truncated proteins encoded by splicing variants of BoLBD37L-P may disrupt the BoLBD37L function as repressor.
Difference in the C-terminal region of BoLBD37L-G and BolBD37L-P may affect the expression of downstream genes, BoMYB114L and BoTT8, resulting in differential anthocyanin accumulation.

Abnormal sleep duration has been identified as a risk factor for cognitive decline. However, most studies have measured sleep duration and cognitive function at a single time point, while both tend to decrease with age.
This study aimed to investigate the association between changes in sleep duration patterns and cognitive trajectories in older adults.
Using longitudinal data (2005-2014) from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey, a total of 4347 subjects were included in this study. Cognitive function was measured with the Chinese version of the Mini-Mental State Examination. Group-based trajectory models were used to identify the trajectories of sleep duration and cognitive decline within the study sample as the participants aged. Furthermore, the association between sleep duration patterns and cognitive trajectories was examined by multinomial logistic regression analysis.
Using the medium-stable sleep duration pattern as a reference, the trajectory with a long and increased sleep duration pattern was more likely to be associated with the slight cognitive decline trajectory (OR=1.80; 95% CI 1.31-2.44). Persistent short sleep was associated with a decreased likelihood of having a rapid cognitive decline trajectory (OR=0.32; 95% CI 0.12-0.75).
Changes in sleep duration over time were independently associated with cognitive decline and may be a marker of cognitive decline.
Tracking of sleep duration over time in older adults may provide a useful insight for prevention of cognitive decline, and the increased sleep duration should be noticed with greater vigilance.

BAY-985 In the field of hemodialysis, substantial efforts have been made to improve toxin removal and biocompatibility. The advent of hemodiafiltration (HDF) and, more recently, of mid cut-off membranes have contributed to management of patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Although several uremic toxins have been discovered, we know little about the clinical impact of their clearance in hemodialysis patients. In addition, a great deal of progress has been made in the areas of filtration and diffusion, but the adsorptive properties of hemodialysis membranes remain under-studied. The mechanism of action of adsorption is based on the attraction between the polymer of the dialysis membrane and the solutes, through hydrophobic interactions, ionic or electrostatic forces, hydrogen bonds or van der Waals forces. Adsorption on the dialysis membrane depends on the membrane surface, pore size, structure and electric load. Its involvement in toxin removal and biocompatibility is significant, and is not just an epiphenomenon. Diffusive and convective properties cannot be improved indefinitely and high permeability membranes, despite their high performance in the clearance of many toxins, have several limitations for long-term use in hemodialysis. This review will discuss why adsorption should be reconsidered and better characterized to improve efficiency and adequacy of dialysis.
Evidence on the use of inhaled methoxyflurane in the management of trauma pain is conflicting and obfuscated. This study aimed to determine the efficacy and safety of inhaled methoxyflurane for trauma pain on the basis of published randomized controlled trials (RCTs).
RCTs assessing the efficacy of methoxyflurane in adults or adolescents with acute trauma pain published in PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar were searched. The control groups were those that received placebo or standard analgesic treatment (SAT). The primary outcome was the change from baseline in pain scores during the first 30min of treatment. Secondary outcomes included time to first pain relief, the proportion of patients experiencing pain relief, rescue analgesia rate, the treatment satisfaction of patients and investigators, and the methoxyflurane-related treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs).
A total of nine RCTs (1806 patients) were identified. Results revealed that methoxyflurane provided a clinically unimportant benefit by improving the mean difference of change from baseline in pain intensity (from - 0.
