To elucidate the risk and synergistic factors of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients with chronic hepatitis B-associated cirrhosis (CHB-Cir) complicated by type 2 diabetes (T2DM).
The patients with CHB-Cir who were followed up in Hepatology Center of Nanfang Hospital from June 2010 to June 2019 were divided based on their T2DM status into two cohorts matched for gender, age, HBeAg status and HBV DNA load CHB-Cir with T2DM group (observation group) and CHB-Cir without T2DM group (control group). All the patients were followed up at a 6-month interval, and the cases with complete clinical data and follow-up data for more than 2 years were included in the analysis. Kaplan- Meier method was used to compare the cumulative incidence of HCC between the two groups. A Cox proportional hazard regression model was used to analyze the relationship between T2DM and the risk of HCC in these patients.
A total of 467 patients with a mean follow-up time of 4.4±1.62 years were included in the analysis, including 2n CHB-Cir patients complicated by T2DM, suggesting the clinical significance of early interventions of diabetes to reduce the risk of HCC in CHB-Cir patients.

A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted. The children were 10-14.9 years old. Weight, height, and waist circumference were measured, and the body mass index Z score (BMI) was determined. The waist to height ratio (WHtR) was calculated. Blood pressure was measured and three child́s risk factors were identified.
Eight hundred and seventy-one schoolchildren were screened; 26.0% were overweight and 19.3% were obese. The most common risk factor among overweight and obese children, accounting for 80.4%, was a positive family history of type 2 diabetes mellitus in first- or second-degree relatives. Children born to mothers with diabetes or gestational diabetes mellitus during the child's gestation represented 17.3%, and around 26.8% were found to have hypertension (stage 1 or 2). In relation to the risk factors, 12.6% presented no risk factors; 54.0% had at least one factor; 29.1% two risk factors and 4.3% had three risk factors.

In the period between 2018 to 2020, 95 samples were reviewed, of which 31 adult patients (32 tests) had hematologic malignancies or were recipients of SCT.
