Zimbabwe introduced human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine nationally in May 2018, targeting multiple cohorts (girls aged 10-14years) through a school-based vaccination campaign. One year later, the second dose was administered to the multiple cohorts concurrently with the first dose given to a new single cohort of girls in grade 5. We conducted cross-sectional surveys among health workers, school personnel, and community members to assess feasibility of implementation, training, social mobilization, and community acceptability.

Thirty districts were selected proportional to the volume of the HPV vaccine doses delivered in 2018; two health facilities were randomly selected within each district. One health worker, school health coordinator, village health worker, and community leader were surveyed at each selected health facility and surrounding area during January-February 2020, using standard questionnaires. Descriptive analysis was completed across groups.

There were 221 interviews completed. Over 60% of n eligibility were recommended. Integration, partnerships, and resource mobilization are also needed to ensure program sustainability.
Findings demonstrate the presence of highly knowledgeable staff at health facilities and schools, strong community acceptance, and a school-based HPV program considered feasible to implement in Zimbabwe. However, misunderstandings regarding target eligibility and rumors persist, which can impact vaccine uptake and coverage. Continued social mobilization efforts to maintain community demand and training on eligibility were recommended. Integration, partnerships, and resource mobilization are also needed to ensure program sustainability.
Serratia marcescens is a Gram-negative bacterium that is found in hospital environments and commonly associated with outbreaks in neonatal units. One S. marcescens isolate was detected from a bloodstream culture from a neonate in our hospital that was followed by an outbreak. The aim of this study was to describe the molecular epidemiology of a S. marcescens outbreak in the neonatal unit.

In order to investigate the outbreak, weekly surveillance rectal swabs were submitted for culture from all patients admitted in this unit from August to September 2018. Environmental samples were obtained from potential sources in September 2018. Typing of isolates was performed by pulsed field gel electrophoresis (PFGE). In addition, we studied the in vitro activity of chlorhexidine against S. marcescens.

During this period, 146 infants were hospitalised in our neonatal unit, of which 16 patients had a S. marcescens-positive sample. Androgen Receptor Antagonist A total of 36 environmental surveillance samples were collected, and one sample from a stethoscope from an incubator of a colonized baby was positive for S. marcescens. All the 18 isolates, including the isolate from the stethoscope, belonged to a single PFGE cluster. We found that very low concentrations of chlorhexidine, even with application times close to 0 achieved significant reductions in the amount of S. marcescens.

A unique clone of S. marcescens caused this outbreak, including isolates from patients and from one stethoscope. The outbreak was controlled with the early implementation of specific control measures.

The health and wellbeing of young people are critical for the future of society but the extent to which they are addressed by overarching Australian Federal, State and Territory health policy is difficult to determine. Analysing high-level youth health policy will help establish how Australian governments are articulating and prioritising issues and may guide local and international health agendas.

This scoping review aimed to determine the extent, range and nature of Australian high-level government policy focused on the general health and wellbeing of the general population of young people. Policies published by Australian Federal, State, or Territory government departments between 2008 and 2019 were thematically analysed employing Braun and Clark's six-step recursive framework.

Twelve policy documents met inclusion criteria. Three meta-themes emerged, comprising policy development, youth health challenges, and policy goals. Policy goals fell into three ubiquitous and overarching categories focused on supporting public health, promoting equity, and improving the health system for young people.

A number of youth-specific health policies have been developed by Australian governments in recent years. Whilst goals and strategies are clearly articulated, more can be done to ensure a youth voice in policy development. The policy goals of supporting public health, promoting equity and improving the health system deserve consideration from other countries developing youth health policies.

To provide a summary of the emerging and ongoing survivorship challenges facing childhood, adolescent, and young adult cancer survivors and their families.

Research and review articles, websites, and clinical guidelines specific to childhood cancer survivorship were used.

Many challenges exist in assuring quality long-term follow-up and risk-based screening for childhood cancer survivors. Although many childhood cancer survivors survive well into adulthood, they are at risk for a vast number of later complications of their cancer treatment necessitating annual cancer surveillance. In addition, many childhood cancer survivors are not engaging in long-term follow-up recommendations for clinic attendance, risk-based surveillance, and screening for potentially life-ending events. Pediatric oncology nurses and advanced practice nurses have played an enormous role in the design of childhood cancer survivorship programs and are an integral member of the multidisciplinary health care team who care for this population.
