Root-knot nematode is one of the most significant diseases of vegetable crops in the world. Biological control with microbial antagonists has been emerged as a promising and eco-friendly treatment to control pathogens. The aim of this study was to screen and identify novel biocontrol agents against root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita.

A total of 890 fungal isolates were obtained from rhizosphere soil of different crops and screened by nematicidal activity assays. Snef1910 strain showed high virulence against second stage juveniles (J2s) of M. incognita and identified as Trichoderma citrinoviride by morphology analysis and biomolecular assay. Furthermore, T. citrinoviride Snef1910 significantly inhibited egg hatching with the hatching inhibition percentages of 90.27, 77.50, and 67.06% at 48, 72, and 96 h after the treatment, respectively. The results of pot experiment showed that the metabolites of T. citrinoviride Snef1910 significantly decreased the number of root galls, J2s, and nematode egg masses and J2s population density in soil and significantly promoted the growth of tomato plants. In the field experiment, the biocontrol application showed that the control efficacy of T. citrinoviride Snef1910 against root-knot nematode was more than 50%. Meanwhile, T. AT406 mw citrinoviride Snef1910 increased the tomato plant biomass.

T. citrinoviride strain Snef1910 could be used as a potential biological control agent against root-knot nematode, M. incognita.

Hypercalcemia of malignancy is not uncommon in patients with advanced stage cancer. In rare cases the cause of the hypercalcemia is excessive production of calcitriol, the active form of vitamin D. Although inappropriate tumoral secretion of calcitriol is typically associated with lymphomas and some ovarian germ cell tumors, we present a case of calcitriol overproduction-induced hypercalcemia due to a pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor. The high expression of somatostatin receptors on this neuroendocrine neoplasm opened up the opportunity to treat the patient with radiolabelled somatostatin analogs, which successfully controlled the refractory hypercalcaemia and calcitriol levels. This case documents a rare finding of refractory hypercalcaemia of underlying malignancy due to a calcitriol-producing pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor, responding to peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT).

A 57 years-old patient presented with back pain, general discomfort, polydipsia, polyuria, fatigue and recent weight loss calcitriol secreting pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors are very rare. However, treatment with PRRT resulted in normalization of calcium and calcitriol levels, strongly supporting the hypothesis of a calcitriol-producing pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor.
Although up to 30-40% of gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors are known to be functional (i.e. producing symptoms associated with the predominant hormone/peptide secreted), calcitriol secreting pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors are very rare. However, treatment with PRRT resulted in normalization of calcium and calcitriol levels, strongly supporting the hypothesis of a calcitriol-producing pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor.
Acute Care Surgery (ACS) was developed as a structured, team-based approach to providing round-the-clock emergency general surgery (EGS) care for adult patients needing treatment for diseases such as cholecystitis, gastrointestinal perforation, and necrotizing fasciitis. Lacking any prior evidence on optimizing outcomes for EGS patients, current implementation of ACS models has been idiosyncratic. We sought to use a Donabedian approach to elucidate potential EGS structures and processes that might be associated with improved outcomes as an initial step in designing the optimal model of ACS care for EGS patients.

We developed and implemented a national survey of hospital-level EGS structures and processes by surveying surgeons or chief medical officers regarding hospital-level structures and processes that directly or indirectly impacted EGS care delivery in 2015. These responses were then anonymously linked to 2015 data from the American Hospital Association (AHA) annual survey, Medicare Provider Analysis on patient risk factors and severity of EGS disease.

Our work provides a template for team science applicable to research efforts combining primary data collection (i.e., that derived from our survey) with existing national data sources (i.e., SIDs and MedPAR).

The iliac occlusive disease is usually treated with endovascular procedures in recent years. The effectiveness of different crossing approaches for these occlusions is not precisely known. We performed a retrospective study to explore the optimal crossing approach (antegrade versus retrograde) for iliac artery chronic total occlusions (CTOs) and to examine the long-term outcomes.

We performed a study on 107 patients (116 iliac occlusive lesions, mean age 64.0 ± 11.1, 88 men) who underwent an iliac CTO endovascular intervention attempted with the use of both crossing strategies but were managed with one final crossing approach between August 2012 and August 2018. Baseline data, procedural characteristics, and outcomes were described. A Cox proportional hazard model and Kaplan-Meier method were developed to assess the differences in the two crossing approaches in terms of the 1-year and 5-year primary patency rates, target lesion revascularization (TLR) and major adverse limb events (MALEs).

Common iliac artery (CIA) lesions were more likely to be crossed successfully in the retrograde direction (6.
